Through the Years
From our humble beginnings as a small machine tooling company to the global manufacturing presence we are today, innovation has always been at the heart of ITW. This is what sets ITW apart from our competitors—our ability to see new possibilities where others see only the status quo, and to translate our customers’ pain points into solutions that help them run their businesses better.
Why consider a career with ITW? You can look at our history of solid results, at our long list of nearly 10,000 active patents or at the broad range of industries, markets and customers we serve and see that we’re successful. But that only tells part of our story. The real ITW success story is in the strength of our values, the depth of our culture and the leadership of our people. These are the unique aspects of ITW that will drive our success in the years to come.
Our Values: Integrity, Respect, Trust, Shared Risk, Simplicity. These are the key to our future success, the “glue” in our company that allows us to perform consistently, yet quickly adapt to change as needed.
Our Culture: ITW’s decentralized entrepreneurial culture offers every employee the opportunity to make a difference and to have a stake in our collective success.
Our People: Our balance of experienced ITW leaders and new thought generators from different environments strengthens ITW’s diverse and inclusive culture. ITW offers career development opportunities from the very start, whether you begin as a recent graduate or join as an experienced professional. The size and scope of ITW offers opportunities for any number of career paths.
Take a look at what we have to offer. If you like what you see, and are interested in a challenging, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, we invite you to bring your passion, vision and creativity to ITW.
Sincerely,
Scott SantiPresident and Chief Executive Officer

2016 & BeyondITW’s Enterprise Strategy focuses on ITW’s unique core capabilities
– 80/20 business process, customer-back innovation and our decentralized, entrepreneurial culture – to drive solid growth,
strong returns and best in class operating performance.
ENTERPRISE STRATEGYl 80/20 Business Processl Customer-Back Innovationl Decentralized, Entrepreneurial Culture
1999-2009ITW expands globally, delivering
customer solutions in 57 countries.
CUSTOMER-BACK INNOVATIONITW’s unique approach to customer-focused innovation
has fueled decades of profitable growth. The company’s
innovation efforts are “80/20-enabled” as its businesses
focus on building relationships with major customers to
develop deep knowledge and insight around their key
needs and pain points. Working innovation from “the
customer back” sets ITW apart, and it is these key
customer insights and learnings that drive innovation at
ITW. The company’s portfolio of approximately 16,000
granted and pending patents reflects its ongoing
commitment to developing innovative solutions for our
key customers.
80/20 BUSINESS PROCESSITW’s proprietary 80/20 business process has been integral
to the company’s success for nearly 30 years. Through
80/20, each ITW business focuses on the 20 percent of its
customers that generate 80 percent of its revenues and
structures the business around serving and growing
relationships with these key customers. The efficiencies
gained from 80/20 deliver best-in-class operating margin,
strong free operating cash flow and differentiated returns on
invested capital. ITW’s commitment to 80/20 is stronger
than ever, and the company continues to view 80/20 as a
key driver of its competitive advantage in 2014 and beyond.
DECENTRALIZED ENTREPRENEURIAL CULTUREThe heart and soul of ITW are the 49,000 hardworking and
dedicated people around the world who thrive in the
company’s decentralized entrepreneurial culture. ITW’s
unique culture is a competitive advantage, and the company
is working hard to make sure that its divisions continue to
think and act like smaller companies. ITW businesses have
significant flexibility within the ITW Business Model to
customize their approach in order to best serve their
customers and maximize performance.

The Best Ideas
MAKE A DIFFERENCE
INTEGRITY IN ALL THAT WE DODespite our many brands and locations, suppliers and
customers who work with ITW can expect the same treatment
no matter where they are: honesty, transparency, and a
company that always tries to do what’s right.
RESPECT DRIVES PERFORMANCE, INNOVATION, AND A COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITYITW has a large and highly diverse workforce, with talented
employees who bring the richness of different cultures,
languages, and experiences to their work. We expect those
differences to be embraced with respect and dignity and for all
views to be recognized. Respecting employee insights at all
levels, and providing honest assessment, nurtures innovation.
TRUST IN EACH OTHER AND OUR COMPANYWe trust that all ITW colleagues will operate with the highest
professional standards and in the best interests of the
company at all times.
SHARED RISK SUPPORTS BOLD DECISION MAKINGAs a company built on innovation, we know that mistakes and
trial and error can make you stronger, more knowledgeable
and might even trigger the next great idea. That’s why we
encourage well-reasoned, prudent risk taking in an
environment where challenges are discussed openly, and
information is shared among all. We work as a team, sharing
responsibility for the outcomes of individual risks and
decisions.
SIMPLICITY ALWAYSWe keep things simple by focusing on the essential core of
any business opportunity, challenge, issue, or problem. 80/20
is our core philosophy and the key tool that drives simplicity
into our thinking, processes, systems and structures by
focusing on “the 20%” of any opportunity or problem that
drives “80%” of the results or outcomes. We use business
structure as a key simplicity tool: small, focused, & flexible vs.
large, complex, bureaucratic, & rigid.
