Hello Bayou Regional FIRST Robotics Judges!

I’d like to take this opportunity to THANK YOU in advance for your generous contribution of time and

effort at the upcoming Bayou Regional event. My name is Warren Cancienne and I will be your Judge

Advisor for the competition. I guarantee you’ll have a great deal of fun and be amazed by the

incredible accomplishments of the teams!

You have been assigned to one of the most challenging and interactive volunteer positions at any FIRST

event, Judging. Judges interview the teams, find their stories, recognize their accomplishments and,

most importantly, encourage the students to continue expanding the skillsets they’ve learned during

their FIRST experience. As a Judge, you’ll assume many roles during the competition. You’ll be an

interviewer, detective, and reporter. More importantly, Judges are professional role models for the

students. You were chosen as a Judge because of these reasons.

The details of the judging timeline are outlined below. Please make sure that you are available for

both days of the event as the judging process relies heavily on the continuity of the entire group of

Judges for arriving at good decisions.

You need to put the following important dates on your calendar:

JUDGES TRAINING (May be a dinner)

Date: Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 6:00 – 9:00 pm

Location: Pontchartrain Center, 4545 Williams Blvd, Kenner, LA 7006 Your attendance is important as we will be reviewing details about this year’s competition as well as

key judging details. At this training, you will receive your judging assignments and have an opportunity

to meet folks with whom you will be working throughout the weekend. Please let me know as soon as

possible if you will be unable to attend the Training.

Note: veteran judges are not required to attend the training but are encouraged to attend to meet the

new rookie judges.

FIRST ROBOTICS Bayou Regional

Dates: Friday & Saturday, March 18 & 19, 2016 from 7:30 am – 5:00 pm

Location: Pontchartrain Center, 4545 Williams Blvd, Kenner, LA 7006

Please note we start bright and early each day! We need you to be on time.

Judging involves a lot of walking between the pits, the playing field and the judges’ room, so

please wear comfortable shoes.

Please wear your “Blue Shirt” which identifies you as a judge to the kids. Rookies will get

their shirts at the training and veterans are asked to wear their previous year’s shirt but

shirts are available if you would like a new one.

Soon I will be sending you the “Judge Handbook”. Please take some time to read the information

contained in this booklet prior to the Judges’ Training. In there you’ll find details of the judging process

and the awards that we’ll be giving to deserving teams.

Below, is a link that will take you to the FIRST video describing this year’s game called Stronghold.

friends and meeting new ones. This year’s event looks like it will be exciting (much better than last

year)! Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or Carol using the information
