COMMITTEE WELCOMELast year the Darwin Fringe Organising Committee set ourselves one goal: to make a Fringe Festival that Darwin could build on.

At the 2015 Fringe we received 70 Expressions of Interest. In 2016, we got over 100.

Last year our program had almost 50 events; this year we are presenting over 70.

Last year, we were unsure, we were still finding our way, and making it up as we went along. This year, well, we’re still just making it up as we go - but now we know that it works.

We know that in 2015 over 4000 Audience members saw brand new, independent and local art at the Darwin Fringe Festival. We saw the Darwin arts community come together to create work, and to celebrate our vibrant cultural landscape. We saw over 250 artists present and perform, many of them for the very first time.

This is what the Darwin Fringe is all about, and we’re so excited to do it all again this year!

The 2016 Program boasts new venues, new artists and new ideas. Which is good, since “NEW” was the provocation we gave to all of our Festival applicants at the start of the year.

This year sees us return to take up residency in our beloved Brown’s Mart Theatre, with four performance and workshop spaces in this historic building, including our Fringe Festival club at the newly renovated Happy Yess. We also return to the waiting walls of the Mayfair Gallery, which we'll fill with visual art and laughter as our main exhibition and comedy venue; to the Railway Club for some top notch musical experiences; and to satellite venues all around Darwin for just about every kind of art you can think of.

We can’t wait to see all the art on offer during this year’s Festival, and we hope to find you sitting next to us! See you for drinks after the show.

VENUES & INFO

The Darwin Fringe Festival is a ten day open access, community driven arts festival that takes place annually in July. The festival is an arts incubator, supporting independent and diverse artists to present work, often for the first time. It is a celebration of and for Darwin artists to allow experimentation and performance/exhibition opportunities in their home town.

The Darwin Fringe in it’s current form has existed since 2015, but Darwin has a rich and Fringey History spanning decades. This year’s volunteer organising committee is comprised of local emerging artists, and we are passionate about providing opportunities for artists in Darwin.

The Fringe would simply not be possible without the tireless work of our volunteers and artists, and the support of our Funding Partners: The Northern Territory Government through Arts NT and the Community Benefit Fund; our Media Partner Territory FM; our Auspicing body and mentors Brown’s Mart Theatre; and our friends Corrugated Iron Youth Arts.
