Please Read And Understand The Following Rules:

GENERAL RULES AND INSTRUCTIONS

Exhibits will be received Thursday 6-8pm and Friday 1-6:30pm and Saturday 8-9am.

All entries must be in place ½ hour before judging begins.No exhibit may be removed before 5pm on the last day of

the Fair.A person may not offer for exhibit any item not produced by

him or herself. This also applies to youth exhibitors. Youth exhibitors age 18 years or younger as of January 1 of the current year may enter all classes.

Placings will be awarded on the basis of the quality of the exhibit.The Fair is an educational activity. Positive social behavior

and good sportsmanship are expected. All perishables not called for on the last day of the Fair, will be

sold at auction and the proceeds given to the Grange. A person may not offer for exhibit any item entered in any previous Dartmouth Grange Fair. No exhibitor may compete with more than one entry in any given class.

Items for each category must be marked with the name, mailing address and phone number of the exhibitor, as well as an item

description and the exhibit class on a 3x5 index card and left with each item in a manner so as the judges cannot see the name of the

exhibitor. Cards will be made available at the Grange.

Premiums will be paid by check through the mail, when and if, the Fair Committee receives funds from the Commonwealth of

Massachusetts Department of Agriculture or the Mass State Grange.

The Dartmouth Grange, nor the Fair Committee, shall be held liable for any loss, injury, or damage, of exhibits, persons, or livestock.

SOME THINGS THE JUDGES LOOK FOR

VEGETABLES AND FRUITS��Exact number - called for in the premium list��Uniformity - each specimen like the other in color, shape and size��Quality - not too large or too small, of fine from blemishes��Cleanliness - produce washed and wiped as one would prepare for market

CANNED GOODS��Produce should be of the best quality, uniform in size and of good color.��The liquid should be clear, free of sediment and the proper amount into the jar. Exhibitors should be aware of head space.��The containers should be uniform, clean, properly sealed and labeled. Metal rings must be removed.��All canned products, including jams and jellies, shall be sealed by processing and be of the current year’s production.

BAKED GOODS��Attractive, good color, texture and flavor��Foods should be properly covered and accompanied by a recipe��No packaged mixes are to be used

FLOWERS��Exhibits to be judged for artistic arrangement, horticultural perfection and choice of container.��Use clear containers for individual varieties of flowers. Arrangements should be in an appropriate container.��Leaves should not be under the water. Buds should be removed from individual specimens. Wedging is permitted.

PREMIUM LIST ��Home Garden Agricultural Displays: Class A: six (6) different vegetables or fruits covering 9 sq. feet of table space. If desired, eggs, canned goods, flowers, etc. may be added.

Class B: five (5) different vegetables or fruits minimum arranged in an appropriate container.

Class C: whimsical display of six (6) different vegetables or fruits minimum covering 9 sq. ft. maximum table space.��Commercial Agricultural Displays: Class D: eight (8) different vegetables or fruits minimum covering 9 sq. feet of table space. Agricultural, horticultural products may be added.

Class E: seven (7) different vegetables or fruits minimum arranged in an appropriate container

Class F:

��Best floral arrangementJudging will be for quality of material and artistry of arrangement. All floral arrangements in the Fair will compete.��Best youth group exhibit (Ages 4-18)

Judging Criteria for Heirloom TomatoesExact Number - called for in the premium list.Taste - one or more tomatoes will be sliced so that the judge can taste the tomato and observe the inside. After judging, the tomato pieces may be offered to the public.Color, Size, and Shape - should conform to published descriptions of varieties. Uniformity is not a criteria.Cleanliness - produce should be washed and wiped.Stems - for each plate, stems may be either all on or all removed.Variety Name - the variety name must be submitted with the exhibit.

Each exhibit will be judged according to the following point system:

Taste: 20 points maximumColor: 5 points maximumSize: 5 points maximumShape: 5 points maximum

The Judge will place all exhibits into judging classes according to type and/or color for prizes and trophies.
