District 181 Band & Orchestra Classes

Take advantage of this opportunity to experience private lessons with your band or orchestra instrument this summer!

Classes are taught by professional musicians carefully screened by our District 181 instrumental music staff, specializing in each of the

following instruments: flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, percussion, violin, viola, cello and bass.

Instructor: Professional musicians screened by D181 staff

Date/Time: Lessons are scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Students will receive four lessons, one per week, each 30 minutes. The student’s schedule will be determined by the private instructor and parent. Instructors will contact parents in regard to date and time preferences after registration is complete.

Grade: 4-8 (Current D181 Students Only)

Location: Clarendon Hills Middle School

Cost: $100

Refund & Make-Up Policy: A refund can only be given if the teacher is unable to accommodate a specific time request for an entire series of lessons. With advance notice,

teachers will make up one lesson. If a student needs to miss more than one lesson, please make arrangements

with the instructor.

Early Childhood

Summer Camp (Pre-Kindergarten)

Please join us for ECE Outdoor Summer Camp, offered for children currently enrolled in the ECE program.

Children from the ECE program will participate in structured games, sports, and activities. Through these activities, the children will be working on gross motor development, following directions, taking turns, and working in teams. Broadway BoundMusical Theatre Workshop 2015 - “Once Upon a Dream”

Join us for a week of singing and dancing, as we bring some of your favorite moments from disney shows and movies to life! Students will learn large production numbers and have the chance to be featured in a special way, as well. The week will culminate with a perfor-mance for our adoring fans (a.K.A parents and friends). This opportunity is open to all d181 students currently in grades 4-8. All campers will receive a show t-shirt. Indicate size on registra-tion form.

Cost: The cost is $175 per class with the exception of: Band & Orchestra ($100 per four lessons); Advanced Learning ELA: 6th Grade ($350 per two-hour class); Advanced Learning Math Algebra I ($350 per two-hour class) and Early Childhood Summer Camp for preschoolers ($525 per three-hour class).

Location: Classes meet at Prospect School, 100 N. Prospect, Clarendon Hills. Band & Orchestra classes meet at CHMS, 301 Chicago Avenue, Clarendon Hills. Broadway Bound meets at Hinsdale Middle School, 100 S. Garfield, Hinsdale.

Grade Levels: Students should have completed grade levels indicated in course descriptions by the first day of class.

Closings/Cancelations: Classes close once a maximum enrollment is reached. Classes will be canceled if a minimum enrollment is not reached. Registrants will be notified of cancelations and will have the opportunity to register for another class at no additional charge. Unless a class has been closed or canceled, no refunds will be given. There will not be make-up days for any reason (i.e. weather).

Art Enrichment # Time Teacher Current Gr. Level (2014-15)

Drawing / Printmaking on Paper & iPadsHalf of this class will be dedicated to creating artwork on paper using watercolor, pastels, collage materials and forms of printmaking. The second half will focus on creating artwork using a variety of applications on the iPad. Parents and students are invited to an art show and reception on the last day of class!

Literature & ArtThis integrative teaching approach will engage students in creative art projects based on children’s literature. Students will conclude the session by creating their own version of a children’s book. Parents will be invited to an open house on the last day to view the projects.

Language Arts Enrichment # Time Teacher Current Gr. Level (2014-15)

1, 2, 3 Let’s Write!Children will participate in a daily writing workshop that will include a mini lesson and daily writing in both personal narrative and nonfiction genres of each child’s choice. Within the workshop format, children will be individually coached in writing skills and strategies. Children will choose and publish one personal narrative or one nonfiction piece.
