Welcome to this is the 10th National Awards for Excellence.

REIA is very pleased to be able to host this incredible event in the fine city of Perth. This year the competition has been tighter than ever. We are particularly pleased to see the return of NSW this year following the establishment of REIA’s Affiliate Council in NSW. This council continues to grow and now features LJ Hooker, The Professionals, First National, the Estate Agents Cooperative and Defence Housing Australia.

The awards recognise excellence in the profession and the outstanding contributions of all of those within the sector from agents to property managers and buyers’ agents. It is wonderful to be able to host such fine events that reward innovation, community service and above all, professionalism.

A heart felt congratulations to all of the winners and finalists. We hope you continue to excel in your profession and encourage your colleagues to strive to an equally high standard.

I would also like to thank the 31 Award judges for volunteering their time and commitment. Our judges have busy lives and they take on the commitment of judging in addition to their professional lives. Quite simply we couldn’t do it without you.

And finally, I’d like to thank the Awards sponsors for their incredibly generous support that helps ensure that the awards can continue. This year’s sponsors include: Terri Scheer, Direct Connect, Deposit Power, Rockend, Printforce and Top Snap photography. Your commitment to excellence in the profession is deeply appreciated.

ABOUT THE AWARDSSince 1924, the Real Estate Institute of Australia (REIA) has worked to represent the interests of the real estate profession. REIA’s members are the state and territory Real Estate Institutes (REI), through which approximately 80 per cent of real estate agencies and licensed agents are collectively represented.

As a politically non-aligned organisation, REIA’s main role is to provide researched and well-informed advice to the Federal Government, Opposition, media and the public on a range of issues affecting the profession and the housing market.

REIA has an excellent reputation as the most credible source of knowledge and considered opinion regarding the commercial and residential property markets in Australia.

REIA also publishes property market statistics and analysis and has done so for several decades. Publications currently available to stakeholders are the Adelaide Bank/REIA Housing Affordability Report and the Bendigo Bank/REIA Real Estate Market Facts.

The National Awards for Excellence

Since 2006, REIA has presented the National Awards for Excellence to highlight the achievements of Australia’s real estate leaders. The Awards are an opportunity for the profession to celebrate its achievements and recognise the most outstanding practitioners at a national level.

Acknowledgement to the trophy artist

April Davison

1 6 / A B O U T T H E AW A R D SR E I A A W A R D S 2 0 1 5

April Davison is a Perth based installation artist, never ignoring the space and the context for which her art will be sited.

A particular emphasis of research is in the progression of movement and how an installation work compresses and contracts according to how and where it is seen from. Her work also considers how people navigate in and around threshold typology spaces and how art can engage with this.

Robust materials such as steel, corten and timber (typical of the construction industry) are a frequent palette drawn from, balancing their strong character with delicate and careful detailing. It is through a background in architecture that April is able to negotiate how and where art can play a vital role in harmonizing a new or old space.
