FOR ALL CONGRESS PARTICIPANTS TAKING PART IN THE INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE VISIT ORGANISED

BY EUROPA NOSTRA’S INDUSTRIAL AND ENGINEERING HERITAGE COMMITTEE (IEHC)

Kistefos Traelsliberi, one of Norway’s largest grained wood pulp mills, was founded in 1889.In those days the forest was Norway’s most important natural resource, and in Kistefosthousands of timber logs were processed into woodpulp used in the European paper industry. It was used to produce cheaper newspapers and magazines, and thus reading materialsbecame something everyone could afford. The production at Kistefos stopped in 1955, butmost of the machinery and equipment were left in their original environment. The pulpmill is surrounded by a sculpture park offering art exhibitions during the summer months.Accompanying hosts are IEHC-members Pierre Laconte, David Morgan and Cyril Winskell, who will brief congress participants on the visit and on the Committee’s activities.
