NCATE vs. CAEP

Page 5: 2014 NC-ACTE Fall Forum CAEP Meta-Evidence Presentation

NCATE vs. CAEP

• NCATE– Write narrative

for each standard (no page limit)

– Collect evidences that support narrative

– Create website for all documents

– Site Visit

• CAEP– Determine EPP strongest evidences– Organize and crosstab all evidences (90

max total evidences)– Write narrative for each standard (each

std. has an 8000 character max)– Technology and Diversity are addressed

separately, no new evidence can be introduced. All evidences must be included in a previous standard.

– Select one element from one standard for the Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP)

– Complete CIP documentation

NCATE vs. CAEP

• Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP)– Must be measurable, have pilot and multi-phase

data collections, and have EPP resource allocation/support

– NOTE: If the CIP is not met, the EPP is deemed to have not met CAEP accreditation. Must pass CIP to pass CAEP

NCATE vs. CAEP

• Continuous Improvement Plan (CIP)– NC State CIP is the full implementation of edTPA.

1. edTPA implementation is measurable.

2. We have pilot (Fall 2013) and multi-phase data (Spring 2014, Fall 2014, Spring 2015).

3. Substantial EPP resource allocation/support

4. edTPA is specifically and repeatedly referenced within the CAEP standards.

Why Create Meta Evidences?

• CAEP allows 90 total evidences• Each evidence has a file size limit (2mb)• For each evidence 5 questions must be

answered– What is the evidence?– How is quality established?– Criteria for success– What does the evidence mean?– How is the evidence used? If you use an evidence in multiple standards you must answer the 5

questions each time.

How to Create a Meta Evidence

• Create a grid of all evidences aligned to standards/crosscuts.

• Organize like evidences.• Prioritize evidences based EPP strengths• Combine, Summarize, Synthesize, Report

Evidence• Create a global answer for the 5 questions for

the meta evidence.

Hints and Lessons Learned

• Login and review AIMS site for self study report– Note additional materials are needed that are not explicit in the self study guide

• Begin with Evidences– Conceptulize, organize, think through evidences– EPP strengths not kitchen sink.

• Start BIG– Holistically review standards and crosscuts.– Small core team (big picture) vs multiple committees

• Leave ample time for review and re-thinking evidence layout and presentation.

• Create an in-house website to store everything you did not include plus additional documentation for what you did present.

• Select a CIP that the EPP has data, support, and is in progress. • This is new to everyone so be prepared to present ANYTHING.
