Dear Cattlemen,

We would like to extend a big thank you to our past customers for your support of our program and invite you to our 2014 Production Sale.

We are a family operation and our children also have their own cattle so you will notice additional prefixes besides our DCHD prefix. The 2 bulls with the TKJ prefix are from Keith & Julie Trautman. These bulls have been fed and managed alongside our bulls since weaning.

The calves came in slightly lighter this year due to the dry conditions. The calves are raised without creep feed and do not see a feeder until the day they are weaned. Average daily gains are calculated from the day of weaning to current weights. The bulls have been fed Harvest States Bull Challenger along with free choice hay, with a target gain of 3.5 pounds/day to ensure good structural development and longevity. This year’s set of bulls have out done the average by averaging 4.1 pounds/day at catalog time.

We take pride in having a consistent set of thick bulls who have the length to go along with the thickness and good disposition. We strive for problem free calving, excellent disposition and performance in our cattle. A good disposition is a must as most of our cow workers and calf pushers are kids. Our cows have to be moderate framed & able to travel across pastures as they are not pampered. Our cows are proving to be productive and we were honored to be the home of 25 Dam of Distinction & Dam of Merit cows. All but one of these 25 cows were born & raised here at GBG. We were also listed as #11 in the AGA for owners of these elite cows in 2013.

We have been selling replacement heifers by private treaty for a number of years and are including registered heifers in the sale with the commercial heifers available for sale at the ranch.

The heifers have been fed chopped hay with some corn mixed in for a very modest gain. We believe in sending replace-ment heifers out to pasture ready to grow and breed easily in the spring. With this method of feeding the heifers really bloom in the pasture and breed easily. We had 100% of our replacement heifers breed this past year even with the dry conditions.

SALE INFORMATIONBULL PERFORMANCE INFORMATION: EPDs, birth weights, adjusted weaning weights are published in the sale book. In addition a select number of bulls were tested for coat color and polled. They are noted as such in the footnotes if applicable. Adjusted yearling weights and scrotal measurements will be available sale day in the form of a supplement sheet.

FEEDING & DELIVERY: Two year old bulls:Two year old bulls need to be taken on sale day. Please talk with us if arrangements need to be made regarding the heifers.Yearling bulls: Option 1: Take your yearling bulls home the day of the sale and receive $50 off your purchase price. Have your veterinarian perform a breed-ing soundness exam within 2 weeks of breeding season or before you turn your bull out.Option 2: Golden Buckle Gelbvieh feeds and cares for the bulls until April 1, provide a breeding soundness exam and delivery or we will work with you on delivery if located outside of ND. Buyer assumes all risk if bulls are left for Golden Buckle Gelbvieh to feed.

INSURANCE: Ownership transfers at time of sale. It is recommended that bulls be insured, especially if buyer chooses option 2 in feeding and delivery and the bulls return to Golden Buckle Gelbvieh.

SEMEN RIGHTS: The respective owners reserve 50% semen rights on all bulls selling and reserves the right for in herd use of semen from any bull offered for sale.

VACCINATION/MANAGEMENT PROGRAM:CattleMaster, 7 Way, and the foot rot shot are given at Spring turn-out. Fall vaccinations include: 7way, One Shot, Inforce 3, Bovish-ield Gold 5 booster, and poured with Dectomax.

GOLDEN BUCKLE GELBVIEH COW HERD HONOR:The American Gelbvieh Association Herdbook releases Dam of Merit females and Dam of Distinction females for the Gelbvieh breed on an annual basis. Only 3.6 percent of the active cows in the AGA herdbook qualify for Dam of Merit & only 0.8 percent of all active cows qualify for Dam of Distinction. Roy is a proven herd sire, being used as our main herd sire for many years. Roy has sired many great ones and can easily be said to have made the biggest impact in our operation. Very few heifers have left our herd, and boy what a sight when you see all of them in a pasture together, like peas in a pod. Roy’s consistency never misses the mark, whether on cows or heifers. His daughters are great milkers and have very quiet dispositions. Roy died in the fall of 2013 at 8+ years old. Semen is still available.

We sold DCHD 045Y in the 2012 ND Golden Rule Sale to Roger & Ardella Gaugler. We were able to breed a select group of replacement heifers to him. He has done very well with us retaining most of his heifer calves, including Bailey’s show heifer who was shown a number of times-starting as a calf last summer and most recently shown in Denver.
