NAYA Family Center 11th Annual Auction & Gala

On Friday, November 14, 2014 from 5:30-9:00pm, the Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA) will host the annual auction and gala in honor of Native American Heritage month. Over the past ten years, our community partners, Tribal leaders, elected officials and those dedicated to the educational and life success of our youth have gathered to celebrate community and a shared history. The event includes a traditional Native American meal, special performances, as well as a live and silent auction. Auction items include valuable Native art work from across the nation, fine antique baskets, original paintings, prints, hand created jewelry and one-of-a-kind travel experiences.

Home to more than 40,000 American Indian and Alaska Natives who are affiliated with more than 380 different tribes, Portland, Oregon represents the 9th largest urban Native American community in the United States. Locally, Natives experience the highest rates of homelessness, poverty, unemployment; are over-represented in the foster care system and have the lowest graduation rates of any ethnic group. Auction proceeds allow us to impact and benefit more than 9,000 youth, families and Elders who access our programs each year .

The Portland Art Museum (1219 SW Park Ave) in downtown Portland will host this special event. Founded in late 1892, the Portland Art Museum is the seventh oldest museum in the United States and the oldest in the Pacific Northwest.

$275,000 in sponsorships, ticket sales, live and silent auction sales and donations—all to support NAYA Family Center programs.

YOUTH SERVICES impact more than 5,000 children each year, providing holistic, wraparound, strength-focused programming to ensure their success. Our educational programs and recreational activities create healthy options for our youth to help them meet and exceed their goals.

EARLY COLLEGE ACADEMY serves over 100 students, boasts an impressive retention rate with more than 90% of our students returning each year, and has the highest graduation rate for Native youth in the city with more than 90% of our students obtaining their high school diploma.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT reduces urban Native poverty in Portland through an integrated set of strategies that impact the lives of individuals who participat in employment, housing, community economic development and community advocacy.

FAMILY SERVICES programs strengthen family and community ties for individuals, families and Elders. We help victims of domestic and sexual violence, Native American children in foster care and their caregivers and Native American Elders, as well as provide early childhood education services and parenting classes.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT develops emerging leaders, strengthens coalition-building, networking and advocacy to improve the lives of Native Americans in priority areas of education, employment, housing and health equity.

Our mission is to enhance the diverse strengths of our youth and families in partnership with the community through cultural identity and education.

Founded in 1974 by parent volunteers and formalized as a 501(c)3 in 1994, NAYA has provided 40 years of services to self-identified American Indian/Alaska Native youth, families, and Elders throughout the Portland Metropolitian area. Our mission reflects the dedication to our children and families with supports that help them overcome barriers to education, housing, economic success, and reduce poverty and involvement in child welfare. We provide services that strengthen our community in education, cultural arts, career skills, health and wellness, family support, crisis intervention, homeownership, and economic development.
