Monday, September 15th, 2014
Welcome !
If you have any questions during our presentation, please feel free to ask after the presentation.
Why is Kindergarten Important?Our Goals
• Sets a firm foundation for your child’s education
• Discover that learning is fun through academics, fine arts, free & creative play,
& socialization• Teaches children
appropriate skills to interact with peers and adults
3
• Instills the love of learning
• Teaches children to be lifelong
learners
Punctuality
• School starts at 7:40 A.M. We are happy to welcome the children at 7:30 A.M.
• If your child is tardy, he/she will miss out on an integral part of the day…. a calm start to the day, getting in tune with learning, and socializing
• Please make sure your child is on time.
Teaching and Learning in Kindergarten 2
• “Getting things done is not always what is most important. There is value in allowing others to learn, even if the task is not accomplished as quickly, efficiently or effectively." - R.D. Clyde
The students and teachers in KG2 are unique, and each of us have our own learning and teaching styles… we respect and celebrate our differences.
Classroom Community• In our community, we have ‘agreements’ to be a part of
DAA’s Culture of Kindness:– Kind Words– Kind Actions– Kind Thoughts
• Our individualised classroom community agreements are also built on:– Attentive Listening (using our ears, eyes and heart).– Mutual Respect – Appreciations / No Put-downs– Right to pass

Instead of asking your child “What did you do today?" Ask…
• Name 2 children that sat at your table. • What did you do at choice?• What greeting did you do during Morning Meeting? Can you teach it to me?• What did you eat for lunch? Who sat at your table?• What did you do at your specials? (P.E., Music, Art, Swimming, Computers, Library)• What story did Ms. Koltypin read today?• What did you write in your book during Writers’ Workshop? If you want to practice with your child at home, make up stories and talk about them together. Use characters from books to get started if your child needs help (ex. Pigeon from Mo Willems books).• What game did you play in Math today? Can you teach it to me?
