What an exciting time at Kennesaw State University! I am thrilled to be a part of it as the new Dean of the College of the Arts.

I’m sure you’ve heard that football will be coming to KSU next year. Everyone on campus is fired up about this decision, and the College of the Arts is thrilled as well. To help kick off this important addition to our campus life, the Department of Dance will present “Touchdown” in collaboration with KSU Athletics.

“Touchdown!” is just one of many outstanding shows in 2013-2014. The College’s energy and passion for KSU and the arts shines in this exciting season.

If you haven’t yet experienced an event at the College of the Arts, this is the year to do so. The Dept. of Museums, Archives, and Rare Books will open the Zuckerman Museum

of Art in 2014, the first art museum to open in University System of Georgia in 30 years. Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night or What You Will has been around for almost 400 years, but you need to see the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies’ fresh take on his most musical production.

The School of Music welcomes the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra to campus for the first time ever in January 2014, featuring conductor Robert Spano and pianist Wu Han.

Our events showcase the multi-faceted talents of our faculty and students, and we’re pleased to share them with you: our friends, supporters, and neighbors. We invite you to be part of the exciting arts community at Kennesaw State University.

See you at the exhibits and shows!

Dr. Patty Poulter, DeanCollege of the ArtsKennesaw State University

welcomeCollege of the Artsto the2013-2014 season

Kennesaw State University’s Department of Museums, Archives, and Rare Books anticipates the grand opening of the Bernard A. Zuckerman Museum of Art (ZMA) in the spring of 2014. It will be the first art museum to open in the University System of Georgia in more than 30 years.

The ZMA commemorates Kennesaw State University’s dedication to fostering an appreciation of the visual arts in the local community and the region.

The grand opening of the museum will celebrate the 40-year legacy of collecting and gallery programming at Kennesaw State University. The ZMA will house significant works from the University’s permanent art collection, three new exhibition galleries, the Leo Delle Lassiter Jolley Foundation Collection Research Center and the Ruth V. Zuckerman Pavilion, a glass atrium featuring the sculptures of Zuckerman’s late wife.

The ZMA will regularly exhibit works of various media by local and nationally recognized artists, while highlighting University faculty, students and alumni in the corresponding satellite gallery. Serving as a center for education and professional development, the ZMA will host uniquely curated exhibits and programing on a year-round basis.

For updated information, please visit zuckerman.kennesaw.edu or call 770-499-3223.

David and Julie Coucheron, an award-winning sibling duo, have received critical acclaim as both performers and recording artists, having worked with some of the world’s most accomplished musicians and orchestras.

Czech cellist Petr Nouzovský and American pianist Patricia Goodson will present a program titled “Degenerate Music,” featuring performances of chamber works highlighting music created by Jewish composers and influenced by Jewish culture that was banned by the Nazis before and during World War II.

American pianist Jeremy Denk has steadily built a reputation as an unusual and compelling artist, with a broad and thought-provoking repertoire. Denk is also known for his witty and personal music writing. His performance at Kennesaw State University will include performance of solo repertoire as well as a concerto with the Kennesaw State University Symphony Orchestra.

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, currently in its 68th season, consistently affirms its position as one of America’s leading Orchestras by performing great music, presenting great artists, educating, and engaging. The concert features Benjamin Britten’s Piano Concerto, and concludes with the mighty Symphonie fantastique, a revolutionary masterpiece and one of the best-known works of Hector Berlioz. This concert marks the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s first appearance at Kennesaw State University.

Rules, as the saying goes, were meant to be broken. The 2014 Kennesaw State Festival of New Music proudly presents the work of exceptional artists whose creative approaches to music making lead us boldly into new territory. Join us as we explore music that challenges definitions and breaks barriers.

This signature event showcases faculty soloists and student ensembles in a fast-paced blend of vignette performances, spanning an assortment of musical styles and instrumentation. Special lighting and staging create a theatrical effect as this exciting concert displays all of the talent in the School of Music in one night.

Pianist Simone Dinnerstein and singer-songwriter Tift Merritt have joined forces to create a unique collaboration uniting the folk/Americana and classical worlds on their recent release, Night. Though they come from very different musical backgrounds, the duo met in 2008 and immediately realized their shared passion for music and performance. Dinnerstein and Merritt have been performing and honing material for Night since 2010.

The American Brass Quintet is internationally recognized as one of the premier chamber music ensembles and an icon in the brass world. Through its acclaimed performances, diverse programming, commissioning, extensive discography and educational mission, the ABQ has created a legacy unparalleled in the brass field.
