What are the strongest aspects of your MU education? An English class I took my freshman year. A small class environment makes it easier to learn and helpful for students Advisors _____ All of my teachers were very supportive. Having that support really gave me a self confidence boost I never had besides my family supporting me. I learned that teaching is in fact one of the most important jobs out there. Being able to learn and be part if a very well enforced environment of learning. Being in a small classroom setting I was able to focus better and build relationships with those around me Being able to communicate and work with people from diverse backgrounds Being successful in my student training semester Learning to manage a classroom and cater to the needs of unique individuals Building confidence and stepping out of the box when solving a problem. Campus Ministry Campus ministry Themed communities in the dorm (Women of Faith) Accurate, reliable advising Library access No smoking policy Class communicability and good professors Design program was good for the most part Develop a sense of self worth with positive critique and discipline Diverse student population Diversity, sense of community and being able to communicate with faculty one on one Easy going teachers willing to help students Emphasis on group work/participation in class strengthens oral communication skills Writing intensive classes really helped for practice in formal writing Enjoying research Everything Experienced professors Faculty have always been accessible, enthusiastic, and helpful. I also greatly benefited from the small class size and personalized attention. Faculty Support Few students shared similar interests as my own and those students became friends who fueled and encouraged those interests-likewise, I had the same experience with few faculty members. But encouragement is nothing with action and pursuit. Friendly, welcoming community. I became President of SVEA which was exciting and became a member of many great educational organizations, especially KDP that is rewarding. My

professors were all experts in their fields and were able to network me with other professionals and organizations. The student teaching aspect is a great seaway into finding a teaching job as well as a best practice to being an actual teacher Friendship and some faculty's strong desire to help you. Gaining knowledge in my field by creating relationships with my professors. Being challenged within my field with the various projects/assignments Good Fashion Design program overall Graduating Great English classes Great professors. Written communication Hands experience in Interior Department Hands on experience Hands on experience All faculty experts in their field as well as very helpful Hands on experience. Close-knit connections with professors. DC location. Cultural differences among peers High Education Honestly, I had my strongest aspects of my MU education were taking general courses. How to branch out and work with a network. Stronger public speaking skills. I absolutely loved my professors and the flexibility of my class schedules. I appreciated the oral presentations; it helped develop my communication skills. I also enjoyed a few of the projects offered, although challenging, it helped with my knowledge development. I believe the strongest aspect of my education at Marymount would be the great insight into cultural differences and how that provided grounds for establishing an understanding and sensitive to diversity. I believe Marymount is great at broadening student minds and expanding understanding. I enjoyed learning about the field that I was interested in. I enjoyed studying in small classes with a small number of students in each class I feel confident that I will be able to apply many of the techniques I learned at MU to my real-life teaching career. I got a very broad and well covered education that pushed me as a designer and prepared me for the work force. i gained confidence in networking and public speaking and presentations. Got to experience visiting places and taking physical pictures of what e learned, which made it stick more. I had a great education and I feel very widely educated because of the liberal arts core. I feel more cultured because of my study abroad experience and I feel much more prepared for the situations I will face in the world. I learned a lot of skills that can be applied in a lot of different areas. I had a great advisor who helped me to develop my skills. I learned how to become completely independent and I had a lot of exposure.

I love the History Department. All the professors are amazing and really do inspire the love of history within students. After switching majors a few times, the History Department was the first time I felt included in a family. I really enjoyed having so many resources when challenges came along. Most of the professors in my program were very helpful, gave great advice, and spoke realistically about my profession. I appreciate the honesty and motivation given from the professors in my program. I think overall MU is a good school for a student coming directly out of high school. However, the school is not adult friendly and is certainly not veteran friendly. I think that the learning environment, the teacher-student ratio and that it is easy to communicate with students and teachers. I'm proud to have had the opportunity to learn from the professors I've had at MU. The dining experiences have been consistently impressive and the shuttle services have also been consistently prompt. The newer buildings offer many amenities and great environments that are conducive to learning and studying. The library and career services have been very welcoming and helpful as well. Identifying credibility of sources to conduct research. Also enhancing my office etiquette in the business communications class. Individual attention provided by faculty, and they genuinely want the students to succeed. Involvement (leadership) Writing/Public Speaking Presentations It encouraged me to have greater intellectual curiosity and openness to new ideas. It's a small very personal experience. My teachers were supportive and engaging. I never felt like a number or like I was just being shuffled along. Knowledgeable teacher Lacrosse Leadership skills, communication skills Learned how to communicate with others better Learning how to teach myself the subject beyond what the teacher was offering me. Learning the fundamentals toward my Fashion Design degree. The ability to think of an idea and be able to execute that idea on full spectrum. Learning various aspects of the fashion industry (sewing, patternmaking, draping, technical sketches); Professional etiquette and skills (oral, written, etc.); Networking with others (peers, colleagues, professionals); Learning what's needed for my degree Location. Small class sizes. Marymount has a very friendly and welcoming environment. Marymount was oddly enjoyable. At first it seemed small, but altogether the people and education combined, created the ultimate college experience. Sure, I didn't bear the big foam finger at football games, but I did gain lifelong friendships and knowledge and for that, I am grateful.

MU employs wonderful Education professors who are masters in the field. I truly enjoyed learning from Professors such as Dr. _____, Professor _____, Dr. _____, and Dr. _____. My internship and AA280 market field experience. My major courses and having hands on experience in my field. Fashion club and the professors input have definitely helped me be aware of the industry before I enter it. My major courses. My relationship with faculty My study abroad experience. Networking with faculty and teachers - developing skills needed for networking and establishing connections with professionals in the job community. Networking, Research, and Writing skills Professionalism Professors for my degree classes helped me network and were there whenever I wanted to get more info about the industry and other opportunities not related to that specific class Professors were knowledgeable and helped me tremendously. I learned a lot through hands on projects and theory. Professors who really cared whether or not students did well in their classes. I had several professors who were willing to meet and go over material outside of office hours if it was necessary. Research opportunity Since the school itself is very small, the size of politics department is small as well. But because of this, I could meet all the professors in politics department and learn from them. Also, they were always easy to approach whenever I needed their help academically. Small class size Location Small class size as it provides a closer relationship with the professor in assistance with educational needs as opposed to other universities with class sizes of 200 or more! Great Professors :) Small class sizes allowed me to have more one on one time with each professor! I felt like I benefited a lot from it because I got lots of opportunities to ask questions. Small classes Good professors Small classes, professors could focus one-on-one Small classrooms help w/ one on one instruction great for studio classes Smaller classes-More attention Social Strong faculty and staff Strongest aspects were developing my designs skills with the help of my professors. Taking classes regarding my major. Professionalism displayed by academic mentor Taking drawing and design classes Teachers helpfulness, events on campus

The ability to explore different categories of apparel. The ability to study abroad. My global experience has been a highlight of my education The belief in educating the whole person, beyond the classroom, and especially with a focus on service. The best parts of my studies here were my partial study abroad course and the degree of helpfulness of the faculty. I had a religious studies course that went to Rome over spring break which was exciting, awe inspiring, a learning experience, as well as not too expensive. I loved it! Also, the faculties here are so knowledgeable and friendly. Some staff is better one on one but overall they are great teachers and always have their door open. I have not had a problem with a single professor! The common ground theme The community of Marymount is the aspect that helped my education the most. The professors and fellow students create a welcoming and open atmosphere that make it easy to learn and try new things. The courses in my major The courses within my major. The environment, location, and challenge The expansive knowledge of my professors allowing me a large range of perspective to learn The faculty and staff of the School of Education The Fashion Design program offered at MU as well as the service from career opportunities which helped me get a good internship. The fashion merchandising was excellent. I learned a lot through my fashion courses and was able to apply my knowledge in my internship. The fashion program club and participating in hands on classes and internships. The fashion related courses The great teachers and wide array of classes The guidance I received from my advisors The help and guidance I got from my teachers. The interior design program The internship and being able to have courses specific to my major where I could interact with others on the same path as myself. The internship process The involvement of faculty The learning community is fantastic. There is a sense of belonging and fellowship. You are not just another face in the crowd. The opportunity to work with industry professionals while an officer in Fashion Club and Portfolio in Motion. The positive relationships I had with my professors The professor's level of experience is impressive

The professors knew their stuff. They either worked in their field or a field that helped teach us what we needed in order to succeed after graduation. The professors were always there to help me when I did not understand something in class. They were patient and took the time to explain concepts in a way that I could understand. They challenged me to think critically and work hard, which I really appreciate. The professors were amazing, especially Dr. _____. Many of the professors at Marymount are either adjunct professors that work in the field in which they teach or they used to work in that field. The professors. The programs and the people I was able to meet The small class sizes did make it a more comfortable environment, and allowed for many students to get to know professors on a personal basis. I like how if I see a professor around campus they say hi and know my name. Doing an internship definitely helped me feel a bit more prepared for after graduation, but there's not as much information or help as the school likes to give. Little details like what forms to fill out when and figuring out deadlines to apply by for a specific semester are not as easy to find out by students. Being able to do design work for the school outside of class and having the students show was also good. It gave us something to try and strive for so that you could see your work in the student show or the PIM fashion show. The small class sizes, teachers having time to talk to students The small classroom size, and friendly community. The strongest aspect of my MU education was the one to one time spent with professors. Participating in Discover Summer Research and Honors tutorials allowed me to improve my critical thinking. I grew more as a student being offered these experiences than I would have in a different University. Global Education also really impacted my education because I had the opportunity to study abroad a lot. That department is excellent in terms of communicating with students, working with students one on one and making sure they get the experience that is best for them. Global Education is probably the best thing about Marymount in terms of student services. The strongest aspect was the faculty. I developed a strong relationship with several faculty members. These individuals challenged me mentally and physically to better myself each and every day. I was able to present my work on multiple occasions including the National level in the field of astro-physics. I also presented on working with English Language Learners and developing scientific knowledge. I also believe the education department made a huge impact in my life. They prepared me for my future as an educator. All my exams are completed and have many interviews set up to become a teacher in the Northern Virginia area. I cannot thank this department enough including Dr. _____ (Physical Science and Astronomy), Dr. _____ (Language Arts), Dr _____ (Teaching Social Studies), Professor _____ (Language Arts), Dr _____ (reading), and Dr _____ (Advisor). Without the support from these individuals I would have never been expose to the success that has come to me. THANK YU

The strongest aspects of my MU education definitely were in my communications program. The project work, writing courses and overview of the field. The strongest aspects of my MU education would be the small classroom sizes that allowed me to get to know my professors. Thanks to getting to know my professors, I have gained knowledge in my field and have great references to count on when I apply for a teaching position. The strongest aspects would be the experiences I had that allowed students to go outside the class room. When students come to college they have already done so much in the class room. We choose a major and then still get drilled on the same things. The real world is so much more than a book and a PowerPoint. The support from the professors was above and beyond, every time. I have much respect for every professor I had. The teachers are able to give a lot of attention to students Library resources Broad liberal arts core helped me develop different ways of thinking The teachers in my field were very helpful when guiding me my career path. If it weren't for them, than my experience student teaching would have been difficult. The teachers were well educated in their field and approachable when I had questions or concerns about assignments. The campus itself was small but it helped me focus on my career and it helped me form strong student-teacher relationships. My academic adviser was great and really helped me map out my classes so I could graduate as quickly as I could. The teachers, l loved all my teachers. Their knowledge and passion for teaching their subjects gave me the opportunity to delved deeper into areas of the natural sciences that I had little interest in, before MU. But I was so fortunate to had been taught by teachers that opened my mind to broader, and very interesting, knowledge about biology. I am in great debt to their wonderful and valuable knowledge that their imparted in me. I already miss them all. The technical aspects of the fashion design program The willingness for teachers to work with me if I was struggling in an area and help me find ways to improve. The work was challenging. There was a high quality of faculty professors. Adjuncts (especially for required courses) sometimes were not as good. I experienced on new professor in philosophy (not an adjunct) that came off as rude and close minded. He was also unavailable for assistance. His class was my most unsatisfying experience at MU. I experienced courses in Art/Art History that pushed me outside of my comfort zone (in a good way) and challenged me. As an artist you attend school to be pushed beyond your limited experiences. Traveling abroad Value-based education Writing intensive courses Writing techniques

Page 24: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

What aspects of your MU education need the most improvement? Preparing students for a career and talking to them about graduate school. Giving students real opportunities in the field. Add more electives Adding more technology courses to my experience. The technology at MU is second-rate. Advising Arts Department studios could use serious updating, more space, and studio rooms for students to work outside of class. Also storage space for works in progress. Better classrooms Boys Campus Ministry needs serious reform. They are a very conservative group that only appeals to a small fraction of students. As a practicing Catholic I never felt welcome there and looked for spiritual enrichment off campus. The few times I did get involve they had zero boundaries and became way too personal way too quickly. The staff there has virtually no understanding of appropriate boundaries with students and often act very unprofessionally. In addition, more opportunities need to be offered for students of other faiths. On another not, OCRS is horrible. They have a very difficult understanding and addressing student needs. They are so unorganized, take an unacceptable amount of time to get back to students, and often play favorites, making exceptions for students they like and know well. Finally, leadership programs (mainly those overseeing clubs and organizations) at Marymount need to be reformed. They don't train leaders, they train event planners, and they aren't even good at doing that. They do not put in funding requests in on time, manipulate student budgets, and micromanage student groups that are supposed to function with some independence. They are very unorganized, lose important documents and requests, and often overwhelm students. Student Leaders get asked to take on more and more responsibility, often holding several positions at once, creating burn out. It is very unhealthy and they need to learn to recruit new students so one individual is not functioning in three or four roles at once. Class participation Class selection/ times offered. Many classes that I needed were often always full so I would have to wait a whole semester before I could actually fulfill the class requirement. Classes need to be more informative, hands-on and challenging. Classes need to have better availability. By this I mean that they need to be offered more often. If it was just the core classes, it would not be a big deal, but some courses for my major were only offered once every two years. Since I did not come in as a freshman, I had different needs and courses weren't ready for me to take when I needed them. I missed an opportunity to take my upper level geometry course so I had to take it at UMD while taking a course at MU to graduate on time. I know Marymount is a small university, but courses need to be made more available. Also, the description of core classes has to be clearer, some categories are fine, but others like moral principals get really confusing depending on which one and which corresponding upper level you take. I don't know how many times I have been to the school of

Page 25: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

arts and sciences office to clarify what I needed. Even my advisor was confused on some things. The registrar is great on most things that I need it for, but initially transferring in my credits in was a nightmare. There has to be a better system. Half of my credits came in as 999s which means they are not put into any category. I only found out this year that my transferred history course also counted as a different core requirement. Communication Communication between faculty members and students. Sometimes it took awhile for faculty to respond back to my emails and get back to me. I also wish professors would encourage membership for organizations and clubs that relate to the major. I was also happy with how late I got placed for student teaching and think the Education department needs to do a better job with communicating to students and informing them of what is going on. It was very complicated to deal with. I was unaware of a class I had to take as well and of the starting date so had to take it with graduate students on Saturdays. Communication between teachers Communication Program, more broadcasting classes are needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Communication with adjunct professors, the older buildings need construction. Commuter area to relax and/or work Computer labs should be open later during finals, same with the library Course relevance. Many of my major courses were not relevant to the career path they are designed for. They are very upper level (in many schools graduate courses) and make completing the degree more difficult than it should be for the area of the degree Dining, Financial Assistance Dining for students Education classrooms/Computer lab availability Eliminate unnecessary core, Liberal Arts courses Especially for the Graphic Design program, more teachers are needed so that if a student is unable to take a class during the semester it's offered, they don't have to wait A WHOLE ANOTHER YEAR to take that class. Many of my friends who failed a required classes ended up having to switch their major so that they could graduate on time. More professors would also allow for greater variety in teaching methods. I think too with some departments or professors they are too lenient on students that quite frankly should have been kicked out of the school or program long ago because they failed so many classes. But instead they just get special treatment and numerous second chances, whereas other students don't and do end up having to drop out because of various reasons. Financial aid process is so confusing. Classes in major are only offered certain semesters and always full. Not enough sections offered. Everything in Butler rooms is broken and generally subpar. Lounges in butler suck. Dining hall food is disgusting, service is bad and hours are inconvenient. It is not worth what we are expected to pay Finding internship

Page 26: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

Focusing on specific individual needs General education courses Harder grading Having a policy for when teachers miss too many classes. Help for future and career search Housing and dining food I believe the some of the Communication courses needed to be revamped to provide an update look into how the professional has evolved with modern times. I feel as if the Communications department really needs to have the backing of the business department to provide courses on topics that will be seen in the corporate world (i.e.-- financials, business economics, etc.) I could have used a little more help networking. I was able to find a part time job but it wasn't truly in my field. Now don't get me wrong I absolutely love my current job but networking would have possibly helped had I not found my current position. I had no real opportunity to meet people in my field other than my internship and that could have proved useful. I didn't find the academics at MU particularly challenging. I feel that some of the professors felt that we should have been on a level higher then we were for the information we were learning and I feel that the administration at MU could use some improving when it comes to helping out students with their problem. I think there should be more patternmaking classes I think it would be better if MU had some kind of program for transfer students to adjust in the new environment. I had a hard time to adjust myself to MU community in the beginning. I think that some classes should be more challenging and teachers adjunct faculty should be better selected and show more interest on student's overall performance and careers. I think that the non full time teachers need to be more available to students when needed. I think the Library should be made more available to students on the weekends and throughout the semester I was greatly happy with the way classes were conducted and the teachers were helpful. I would have liked to be more aware of scholarship opportunities I would have preferred to have more creative writing classes. Improved meal plan/ food options. In my opinion the Biology major should consider adding 2 years of physics with algebra and calculus, respectively. Also, it is very important that astronomy is added to the curriculum. It is with my amazing experience of taking this class, with my favorite teacher Dr. _____, that I was able to integrate that knowledge and clearly see the connection that all the sciences have with the universe. I also think that Organic Chemistry should also be taught in two years since the subject is extensive and many will benefit from not having to crunch 25 ch in one year. In smaller majors, classes are not offered as often, and schedules are predetermined (no room for change/options) Involvement in the social clubs.

Page 27: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

It is best said through example: If a history professor blindly looked at the midterm of student A (history major) and student B (non-history major) and if student A had a non-curved answer deserving of a 90 and if student B had a non-curved answer deserving of a 70, professors will "write off" the fact that B suffered because they are not in the field and make both grades closer to an 85. That is ludicrous and disrespectful to the profession. Both students A and B signed up for the course, so they should be judged on their individual efforts, not the programs they associate with. Labs Learning to do some more fashion design related skills (altering patterns and their sizes; more pants and jackets); Less focus on core requirements, I really struggled in those course and in most cases will never use what I learned in those courses in the real world. I think more major specific classes should be created and required to cover more aspects of the fashion industry. Library hours-need extension (24 hrs) or at least later hours on Fridays and Saturdays. The weekend is the only time we have to catch up on work or get ahead, and closures at 6pm are inadequate. Many courses seemed repetitive in my field, and so were not challenging. Many of the professors that I have had were incompetent to teach. They either did not have enough knowledge of the subject or they had the knowledge but they were unable to convey the information. Primary courses in the Fashion Design program need serous improvement. Marymount needs to put a lot of effort in improving security on campus and student services. You need to invest more on campus life and activities available to students outside of the classroom. Math skills Mathematics Mathematics/Science More available majors More challenging assignments/courses. Broader variety that expanded fashion courses into real world jobs that were current More classes within the major should be offered More classes, more experience More computer training More faculty to learn more and grow from different perspectives More classes More focus on all programs (but i think the changes in the program for future years has been made) More industry professionals in my field coming to speak about fashion Allow internships for college credit earlier on in the program More organization More school spirit related activities

Page 28: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

More study abroad and trips Most of the actual, physical environment of Marymount needs great improvement. Some buildings look like they are literally falling apart which is unacceptable for any institution, yet alone a private institution for higher learning. Parking services also need to establish some sort of organization or at least a better set of regulations. It’s absurd that a student who has purchased an overpriced parking permit can still be given a ticket if they simply forgot to hang it on their mirror. Even after taking the time to lodge an appeal (in a tiny, smelly room) after waiting outside the door for over a half hour, the fine will still stand. Marymount needs to value their students, especially the commuters who have to deal with the very limited parking and strict parking regulations. Not to forget to mention that the administration absolutely needs to also prioritize the commuter's safety and simply cancel class during times of inclement weather. To cancel class an hour before classes start is ridiculous and to also expect students who are traveling great distances to make it to class on time or to leave it "to their own discretion" is blasé. MU education is great and at this moment there is nothing that I believe needs improvement MU is currently going through a giant wave of renovations do most might be fixed now but some of those classrooms made it difficult to hear or focus due to condition or heat/AC failure. MU needs more computer labs and a larger library with more quiet study rooms would be nice. My adviser never had any idea what classes I needed to take in order to graduate LAST SEMESTER. I could have done this, but no one was willing to help me out. The faculty needs to be more supportive of students and talk to each other for classes within the major. There are far too many strict requirements for education students. Class should be engaging and fun, not a burden. In addition, the entire support staff needs to be fired. The employees from the cafeteria to the IT department are a surly, unfriendly bunch who only care about slacking off and absolutely despise the students- as if we are the ones who choose to underpay them. I have had IT threaten to commandeer my computer, housing threaten to kick me out of school, and the cafeteria has never had te good, well-made HEALTHY food they so frequently promised. I moved off campus because I felt I was too old to have to deal with all of Marymount's "BS", for lack of a better term. I even attempted to study abroad but everything promised to me was a lie ad I was unable to fulfill my ultimate college goal. Marymount needs to develop a philosophy of education and if employees (even the custodial staff) do not assist in carrying out that philosophy, they should be re-coached or let go. My experience would have been better if Marymount had more classes offered within my major during different semesters. Some classes are only offered once a year and the opportunity for taking a class over the summer is limited with a reliance on financial aid. As a commuter, I would have like to have been more a part of the Marymount community. Need more availability time slots for classes. Not as many non-theology classes as I would like-could not take a few classes I wanted (ie Judaism and Buddhism classes) Not having so many Gen Ed courses

Organization, faculties and services were inconvenient and all over the place. Important news and announcements usually do not go to the proper students Organization. I felt as if most of the staff (outside of professors) had no idea what they were doing. I ran into so many problems in my time at Marymount that I changed my major in order to graduate sooner. I felt discouraged to continue my education instead of encouraged to learn. I feel that I will need a degree from another school in order to fully develop my skills in my field. Parking! Patience in doing assignments that I feel have no use or significance. Personal research and meeting with professors, forming relationships Point blank MU needs to review the Professor _____ as an advisor. He is not easy to reach and provides misleading information which led me to having to do an entire extra year at Marymount. Possibly on-campus television station Practical and or technical training, how to work in a real life workplace. Public speaking, intercultural communications Reevaluation of core classes/ reevaluation of course curriculum. Research Sitting in a lecture class for 3 hours. Social aspect Computer services Some areas of campus could use a renovation. I really was proud of the work Marymount did to restore Rowley. With new technology I was able to showcase my talents in the field of education. I think working with contractors to improve Gahilac and Butler facilitates including the restroom facilities can help Marymount continue to portray its Some concerns about drinking on campus Some facilities are old and need updated. As a part-time evening student, getting services was a challenge. Getting parking passes and meeting with advisors was difficult. Some faculty members (NOT ALL) have been rude. It's almost like feeling that I paid to get rude comments or attitudes. Not all. Just some. Some professors need to change methods to help the students of the 21st century Some teachers do not know how to teach Spiritual. Mu need to build a string backbone of teachers who are educated in the Catholic faith. Right now, there are students who have to educate the professors in order for class content to be expanded upon. Student accounts office to be more understanding and assist students with financial issues! Supplies for art/design, hours for art rooms staying open longer for students to complete homework. Test-taking skills and time management That horrible big blue building

The advising needs to be improved for students The art department needs more basic supplies in the classroom (scissors, glue, cups for water, etc). The biggest problem that I had was that most of the communications courses that I needed were not offered during evening hours, which made scheduling classes extremely difficult since I worked full-time. Eventually I needed to leave my job to finish my degree. The communication department needs improvement The core/required classes as well as the discover class especially for transfer students need extreme improvement. The courses, they are very repetitive. There needs to be more of a variety of courses for fashion merchandising majors. The education department needs to be changed. I would say more people need to be hired for placing student teachers. I attempted to go overseas and once everything was sent off, I wasn't told anything. It seemed as if no one cared or supported my dream. More people need to be hired so that one person is not dealing with every student teacher. The Education department. Honestly, the absolute worst organization and communication skills. None of the other students I talk to have anything positive to say about the Education department. Their mistakes and overlooking cost me my education degree. I should have been made aware of issues years(!!!) Before it was brought to my attention, which was as I applied for graduation. It is completely unacceptable. The faculty in the financial aid and student accounts department The faculty support. There are some professors who go out of their way to help you, and then there are others who barely give directions. In addition, the Fashion Merchandising courses need to better prepare students for the working world. There should be more fashion marketing classes and classes that are generally just more helpful in our field. We take enough writing and reading classes, we need real life experience outside the class room. The internship search process was a struggle. Also the LS 300 portfolio class needs great improvement. LS 300 should be a class that prepares you for your senior thesis LS 400 class. The liberal arts requirements weren't clear to me. The placement process for field experience was chaotic and took so much time for one placement. I think there needs to be some priority when placing students. Possibly, students with more required hours should be placed first. For example, in the fall 201, I had 50 required hours and I wasn't placed until the last week of October. Which left me roughly a month to get it done while being full time student and working part-time. This is my only suggestion of improvement. The variety of classes within my major The writing intensive courses could be geared to the major that way it is more enjoyable for them. There were only a few teachers that did not give me the proper amount of attention even

Page 31: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

when I expressed concern about the class content. There were some really good professors, however some of them lacked enthusiasm, experience, and knowledge in their field. To bring commuters in, I know there is a Commuter club but even professors need to give some time to reel them in. Plus for commuters maybe a couch or bed in the lodge after long nights of studying for finals and midterms. Many students I know that are commuters are felt left out since programs that are meant to bring them in the Marymount community are during the day when people are working. We need a student union and more pride in student life. Price. Students need more scholarship money and a 10,000$ scholarship your freshman year is great, but as tuition rises and that amount doesn't rise, its hard to stay here. Workout facility. Class options If you have any other comments regarding your MU education, please provide them here. I enjoyed it, but I see from other universities that it can be improved. A lot of the professors were really understanding when it came to your grade and how it could be improved Absolutely ridiculous that I could never go on service trips because I am not religious. I asked many times and was told I have to pay to be forced to pray, when I only wanted to help people make their lives better. You are doing a disservice to the world by providing so little volunteer opportunities, and when you do they are only for (catholic) Christians. Better networking connections for the fashion industry without having to be in a club Continue to challenge our students to become better then what they were yesterday. Inform faculty that when an assignment is being prepared or the semester to ask themselves. Besides understanding the content how am I going to help my student challenge themselves to become better using this content. I am extremely proud of becoming Marymount Alum and will recommend other future Educators to attend this University. Continue to do a great job, hope many more for future MU students to come Dr_____and Dr_____were awesome. Hands down learned the most with them. I hated having a bad adjunct professor in required classes, they were awful and it was such a waste of money. Great cultural diversity I am proud to be able to call myself a Marymount University graduate! I believe Marymount really needs to work on improving the services they provide to commuter students. I feel there is a big disconnect when it comes to considering commuter student needs (in terms of class scheduling, parking, services, opportunities, etc) Marymount has a 68% commuter student base and it is important that this majority group of students needs are met. I believe that all advisors should have the proper training before advising students. I also think that the advisor should ask the student what they think is best for them when it comes to registering for classes and how they can accomplish taking 18 credits a semester to graduate on

time. I enjoyed my team here. I feel that I must further express my deepest gratitude to Marymount. Though I contemplated leaving in the beginning, I'm so glad that I didn't. In the end, yes, Marymount is small. Though, freshman have to realize that college isn't about how big it I or how your sports teams rank, it's what you make of it. I was fortunate to meet a group of friends early on my freshman year and we are still close to date. Balance is easily attainable at Marymount. You make incredibly close friends; yet, your classes are smaller, providing you with more attention from your teachers. If anyone questions this opinion, they need to reevaluate their efforts. Freshman, remember, your inches away from DC. Your not just in a regular old college town (Blacksburg). Take advantage. I'm not saying to throw away your books, just don't get distraught when your friends at JMU tell you about the party that went down last night. You have DC at your dispense. Study, take that test and then go celebrate with those close friends of yours out on the town. I had a very good experience, Marymount is a great school!! I'm planning to go back to my country and apply everything I learn from many wonderful professors and students. I have really enjoyed my time at Marymount. Throughout the past four years I was granted to opportunity to work and study in a field where I am passionate about what I am doing. I learned a lot at MU, but still don't feel I'm actually prepared for the real world. It might be helpful to take out some of the redundant classes and add more internship. I liked my education in Marymount University, I had great experience but sad I could not enjoy more of school activities due to great amount of study. It was a quiet challenge for me to adjusting in the new environment and at the same time learning major courses. I love everyone in the English department I loved my experience here I loved my years at MU. I really wish that Marymount would bring back the Broadcast Delivery class. I never got to take it as Ms. Dolan was the only professor who taught it and the course was phased out. I think it is important for you to really look into some of the professors that you hire. I had a personal issue with a professor that ended up leaving or getting fired after I had them, and received a completely unfair and unreliable grade (as did the rest of my classmates). I would have preferred that action was taken when I and other students had spoken up regarding the professor's inappropriate and unprofessional behavior, not after we had received the poor grades we didn't deserve. I understand that is a liberal arts school; however I felt I spent too much time fulfilling requirements for this instead of focusing on my major. I almost wish I had attended a more formal art school. I was not very pleased with the conditions of the lab. I transferred in from another school and the lab work there was very rigorous and challenging, making me feel like the lab we were doing was important. We had materials, and we carried on real labs. Te lab equipment at MU is

Page 33: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

missing, very poor and feels elementary. This does not ready one for the outside work, especially if one wants to do lab work after graduation. For all the money we pay to attend school, more of it should go towards having a better science program at the school. I wish I had chosen MU my first time around. I went to other undergraduate schools, but believe my MU experience was the best and clearly the most successful. The intimacy on the campus with faculty, staff and students is truly the high point! I've met some incredible people here at MU In regards to matters like the dining hall and residents' halls, I don't think MU really cares what the students think. I lived in the Rowley and Butler dorms all 4 years of my education, and have a huge issue with the laundry facilities. 12 washers and dyers total are not NEARLY enough for 3 dorms to use. The machines are old and break down very often, and it's a pain to walk from St. Joe's or Butler only to find the washers and dryers full and/or broken. I understand Butler is just going to get torn down so MU doesn't want to put laundry machines in there, but improving the current situation is a MUST. Much of the furniture in the Butler (and Gerard) lounges are old and dated. I think at least those areas should be redone since many students spend time in there. As for the dining hall, the food is go-awful most days. I think the school and Sodexo are trying to do too much with satisfying everyone's needs and be healthy; and so the quality of the food has plummeted. Half the food that was normally offered years ago has been completely taken away, such as the hot dogs and mac and cheese. Make sure that students are ready for upper level liberal arts core classes. Seriously! Revise the grading system, increase requirements, do what you have to do. I know my biggest issue was students just did enough to pass lower level classes and then when they got to upper level classes, we had to spend critical class time reviewing the basics again. While I understand people are busy and forget, it draws away from my enjoyment (and eventual coverage of good material) in a class. Also, high five to some great professors and adjuncts in philosophy and theology. They really encouraged me to think and reflect on the material and I'm better and wiser for it. Thanks. :-) Make this a more rigorous institution. It won't survive and be respected simultaneously otherwise. Marymount's facilities and classroom need to be updated and redesigned. More adjunct professors who actively work in the field. More Bio elective classes! More broadcasting classes!!!!!!!!!!! More outlets around the campus would be helpful, since we live in a world filled with mobile technology. MU offers a quality, great, education and the resources, staff are always very helpful. I recommend MU to all people looking for a great education and college experience. My only sad regret, it is not having been able to be a Freshman at MU. But I am very fortunate to have been able to transfer from NOVA, a school that has still a great piece of my heart and gratitude. Finally, I had been greatly blessed during my three years at MU. I already ache my

leaving, and I truly hope that I may be able to return one day and give back to MU with my service to it. I also want to deeply thank the Study Abroad Program...I am speechless... But please, please keep their prices low, I know that with today's economy that can surely be a challenge. But it is because of these opportunity that I was able to visit 5 European countries, and this Summer will be the sixth, and I know of friends that would loved to go, but are unable because of raising cost. Thank you MU... I love you and I pray for you. See you soon! None! Great school! One or two faculty members played favorites. And it was obvious. Kinda had no choice but to deal with it. Overall my educational experience at Marymount was positive. I feel I received a quality education with a lot of personal attention. Overall, I was happy to be here. I am grateful and thankful for all I have learned. Thank you Please bring back the Catholic faith into the classrooms, not just the chapel! And have the faculty take an oath of Fidelity to the magisterium at the beginning of the school year! Please update resource library in interior design building. Also printers are no very good and need to be updated with new ones. Senior project (FA-427) should be extended across 2 semesters with the amount of work involved. Thank you Thanks for all your help and support Marymount! The arts should have a greater importance to MU and become more present The Graphic Design program needs to focus more on teaching graphic design skills. The program courses seem to focus more on making students do projects for the school. There's not enough hands on training. The lectures are far too long. I honestly don't feel like I know any more than I did when I started. I already worked in the field when I began. I've learned nothing new. Yet in the industry the Graphic Designers are doing far more than what's being taught at the school. I found myself to be very frustrated with the fact that the program is not keeping up with the industry. I doubt if students leave the program prepared to seriously work in the industry. The institution does not seem to be organized at all. The registrar’s office too often loses important things like class registrations. The advisors do not inform students of what their responsible of keeping track of until it is too late and it is about blame. Transfer students do not get enough help at Marymount when it comes to making sure that their credits and transcripts are in order. The athletics department is probably one of the most organized. Academics are not particularly challenging and I found that I didn't have to try very hard to maintain high grades. The math classes should be offered more during the semesters instead of every odd year or every Spring semester. Very displeased with certain teachers in the Communication field. Could not be more unhappy with the advising team, I graduated a whole semester late because I was advised to take

Page 35: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

unnecessary classes in my first few semesters at MU. My advisers changed throughout my 4 years at MU and I found this to be very inconsistent and really hurt my education. Ann, with disability services was the best and I thank her so much for getting me through my 4.5 years. Work and finances should be more to organize the campus than expanding it Would of appreciated more in-depth history and art history courses because both serve as the liberal core and great electives. I avoided the history department as much as possible because it was dull and too easy. Instead, I looked outside of Marymount n order to learn. Then art history only focused on the basics. I wanted to become more involved especially since I'm interested in a museum profession. Both areas would be useful. And Marymount provides a great location for museums.

School of Business Administration

What are the strongest aspects of your MU education? The strongest aspects of my MU education were the development of my research and writing skills. I already had a fair amount from high school, but MU made it more applicable to the work environment, and expressed the need for valid, reliable research that was swift and accurate. Internship requirement. Accounting Classes thought by Professor _____. Fin. aid and scholarships Acct Prof _____ Being able to meet new people and create new contacts for networking. Besides getting your BA in Business Administration you get to "specialize" on something else. Business personality and good faith Classes related to my major were the strongest aspect. Additionally, my advisor, Professor Gray, was extremely knowledgeable about the subject of accounting and requirements for graduation. Class work, group work Communication Community Competent teachers Computer skills Course work connected to my major Critical Thinking Teamwork Global-oriented Leadership Academic style of presenting info Developing the skills needed to find a job, intern etc Everything Exposure to different sections of the same field Friendly environment Knowing new techniques in life

Got to meet lots of great new people who are always willing to listen and help. I have gained so much knowledge that I hope to use my skills and expertise among others. I have learned enough information to prepare me for the business world. I love that the classes were small and the teachers got to know my name and who I am. I love that you can always go to the teacher whenever you needed help. I also love the teachers and who wiling they are to help you out and understand any situation you explain to them. I loved the small classes and many of the professors were wonderful. Some of the professor looked like they didn't want to be there which in return made it hard to learn in those but I have only encountered 2 like that. Other then that the professors are approachable and I liked the real world examples that they provided. I really enjoyed Marymount because of the location close to DC. I was able to live on campus for a year and still commute to my daily job which worked out great. The size of the classes are great because you can get the one on one experience if you need hat. I think the business program is overall very solid. There are a few exceptions when it comes to teachers and class times that made it hard to be a student athlete. Improve my oral speaking by doing a lot of presentations. Improved critical thinking, gained newer perspectives, increased information literacy ability, increased writing/oral communication skills Independent Research Individual help from teachers Knowledgeable professors. Challenging coursework Internship requirement Leadership skills, event planning, communication, and organization Learning about the different cultures from the great diversity at MU Maybe the lectures My critical thinking and problem solving skills were the strongest aspects of my MU education. Network security and Cybersecurity Obtaining an internship that allowed me to explore possible career opportunities in health IT Personal research work and presentation skill development Professor (majority) were passionate about teaching and seeing that their students succeeded. Friendly community and staff Professor _____ was a great professor and a very helpful advisor/mentor. Most of my accounting classes were taught by him and I really enjoyed his classes. Researching skills Shuttle bus services are great, overall I had a good experience at MU Small classes, very helpful Small classrooms are helpful and interact with groups Small intimate classroom settings. Diverse student body. Study abroad programs. Passionate professors Some of the best help I had while at Marymount was the global services office when I did both

short and long term study abroad. They were very helpful in all the procedures and made studying abroad easy. I am very thankful for all the help they provided m. Strongest aspects: academic advising, challenging aspects Student center Study abroad. I wish I had known about the programs sooner. I loved my trip to Tallinn, Estonia and would have easily signed up for more had I not already been graduating. Teachers that care for students Team Groups The proximity with students, which really encourage us to be involved in class. The availability of professors and faculty members The amazing professors. The availability and knowledge of staff, advisors, and professors The classes related to my major The courses that actually related to my field of study The involvement in clubs and organizations was life changing. The amount of time spent completing group projects was well spent. The people and community The small classes The strongest aspects of my Marymount education was the deep understanding and knowledge acquired about Business Management as a field in today's economy. The strongest aspects of my MU education are my critical thinking skills and my domestic and global perspective on news events, especially in industry related news. In addition, my ability to research in both the library and on the Web is another strong aspect of my MU education The strongest aspects of my MU education is the one on one interaction I received from my professors. If it wasn't for the one on one interaction, I would not have been to achieve my goal in earning a bachelor’s degree. The teachers were somewhat helpful and my education helped me learned how to apply what I learned in class in the real world. The teachers. The technical detail in my required classes The variety in my degree plan, allowed me to explore different subjects. That is helpful and enhances general knowledge. There was a more moderate viewpoint from professors, that wasn’t far left or far right. Transferring to a new university and starting all over. Staring all over in making friends and a fresh start with my grades. Very diverse education environment. Advisors were always available. Small classrooms, professors were always there to help. Librarians were there to help write papers What aspects of your MU education need the most improvement? Technology, PARKING!, building renovations

Page 38: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

Academic citation and references Adjuncts need improvements. All the math related courses, for which I have no idea why I was required to take higher level math. High level math has nothing to do with my field of study and only held me back from my goal of graduation. Better professor and accountability of misconduct professor Class flexibility Classrooms need to be renovated in Ballston. There needs to be an improvement in technology. Students should be taught how to use the computer more efficiently. More statistics professors. Also, a prerequisite stats course (or divide the course in half) Communicating skills Communication with professors when I do not understand a subject. Spending more time studying need to learn not to wait until the last minute to do assignments Computer skills, MU should offer classes on Excel and other computer programs Excel skills, other business technology skills Facilities and resources Faculty and staff For students (like myself) that work full time in order to pay one's education, classes/hours should be more flexible. I had to cut my hours at work for the spring semester in order to take classes. One you are an independent person, sustaining yourself, you cannot just quit your job for an "unpaid internship”. Internship SHOULD NOT mandatory for people that are already working. Group work and oral speeches I believe the accommodations for students suffering from debilitating disease and other disabilities, like I with Crohn's Disease should be increased to allow for a more off-campus learning when needed. I can't say I don't like the variety of classes that you have to take. It mostly felt like a waste of time and like the teachers did not care as much I had a poor advising experience. My advisor never helped me explore career options; she was always very brief and didn't provide much assistance. Also, the internship advisor for the business program is not very helpful. If anything this man makes it harder for students to get and succeed in their internships. I think class availability needs improvement. I think the aspects of MU education that need most improvement is equipping students with basic to intermediate IT skills. I was very satisfied with my education experience at MU. I do not think it needs any improvements. It's already meeting all the students’ satisfaction. In IT degree needs more IT classes instead of some business classes

Page 39: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

It was superb It would be great if MU offers more courses in economics and offer the classes every semester. Learning my field of study and being out on the real world Learning to cope with a culture different than your own Liberal Arts core. Libraries More Dr.'s have more and variety of experience. More sections offered to accommodate working students My confidence and presentation skills need the most improvement Need more teachers/professors at business school and more option in class schedule Need to learn more real world scenarios and how to use technology and software. I think the business internships program needs to be looked at and revised. No reason to pay for a class, to work for free at an internship when there is little to no feedback on from the Internship supervisor. Parking, Class Selection Parking in Ballston was always an issue but I know that renovation will be occurring. Also the constant changing in bus route or times was always confusing because I felt they occurred each year and would confuse me what the change was. Parking needs great improvement especially communication about it. The Ballston lot is constantly changing waiting policies and they should alert students of these changes. I also think that professor should be available a little longer sometimes office hours were difficult because they are short period of time and was even harder when you had class at the time that they were available. Also having more selections in classes. When you work full time it is hard to come to early classes. I think more evening classes should be made available to students. Preparing for real life work. Presenting in front of others Real-life application of subject material missing from most classes, more hands-on exercises in class and/or projects, less lecturing, class times Skills in technology, software Some advisors don't really guide, they expect you to fully know what you are doing Some faculty members needs to teach their course on what is current and how it will apply to life after college. Use updated textbooks and case studies. Student tutors weren't very helpful. Many times. I was turned away from assistance because my questions regarded information they forgot or were never taught. Degree plan was constantly being reevaluated and many times I found myself registering for classes that I did not need to take. Provide more clarity. Teachers need to be re-evaluated and trained better. The availability to transfer past real world work experience for credit towards the internship

Page 40: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

requirement. The career guidance needs improvement and also career development from the career services but also faculty advisors. The environment of the school. The internship requirement was great for my professional development. However, I paid nearly $3,000 for Pomeroy to do nothing. I never asked him for help finding an internship and although I turned in a project at the end of the Summer, he couldn't even give me a grade to help my GPA (I received a P to show I passed). More importantly, instead of critiquing my project, he criticized me for what paper I printed my project out on. I used paper from my internship that we printed financial information on or clients. If it is good enough for them, it should be good enough for him. As a student who is paying for their own education, it's disappointing to see my hard earned money go to him when he did nothing to enhance my education or to help me grow professionally. The lack of professionalism from certain professors as well as the quality of the classes. I feel that the quality of professors at MU are all over the place and some should simply not be teaching. The most improvement would be to have more hands on experience in IT. Having projects dealing with hands on tools. The practical/technical aspects. MU maybe needs more Excel classes, for all business students The quality of some of the teachers. Example: Ms. _____-didn't learn a thing, waste of my time and money The social experience and uniting the student body. The times and semesters the classes are offered. Some of the professors need to be evaluated better. Some of the professors are not willing to assist students when they do not understand material. Unnecessary classes for your major Verbal and writing skills and time management Walls Street for Money Banking classes Writing, quantitative If you have any other comments regarding your MU education, please provide them here. A student learns IT from "doing", not "listening". Please have the curriculum include some sort of practical activities for students to do in EVERY IT class, not just programming classes! _____is the best advisor any one can have he had the answer to any question you throw at him For Marketing students, I would suggest them taking an Adobe Suites class. In today's world, a lot of marketers use programs such as InDesign and Photoshop. Great education overall. Great accounting and finance professors! Great Experience

I have three professors who missed more the half a semester. Where is the education in that? I loved the small class sizes, and the access to my professors. They all knew my name, and took interest in me. It is important students are given proper guidance in order to obtain employment in their chosen field and faculty needs to help prepare students with that aspect. It is important that the major students choose especially something new such as health IT, ore opportunities to learn be created. There is lack of opportunities to grow as a new graduate within this field. It was difficult finding classes that fit my course schedule as well as me being able to graduate on time. Luckily I found other classes that could count as substitutes, but that ends up being a disadvantage since it was not the designed course I was supposed to take. MU will forever be in my heart Need to have more choice on professors Needs to provide more LA core course in each semester to give students the flexibility and ability to plan and work towards graduating on time. Over Marymount was a great experience. Overall, it was very challenging to attend Marymount with the schedule I had. Marymount does not offer a lot of classes and hours are not flexible. I would not recommend Marymount to any person that is planning to go back to school while working at the same time. You either take the classes available, or you take it. That's pretty much how I felt the entire two years I was attending school. I know George Mason offers more classes with more times available for those that work and I should have considered attending Mason instead of Marymount. Some professors are not helpful at all, through-out my experience in MU I came across two professors that did not treat their students equally. In a way I felt a little discriminated by them. Some professors were amazing! They truly changed my life Specialty classes should be offered year round, not solely in the spring or fall. The staff and faculty of Marymount University are the business in the education business and should keep up the good work! The academic advisor team is awesome! The WORSE organization within different departments. Too many friends that I know got held back of that and I almost didn't graduate. Until this moment, I still don't know if they are allowing me to walk. How unorganized is that? That is just terrible. While I have been generally satisfied with the experience, it will be good if much of the studies was practical, and consistent with the needs/requirements of the professional environment.

School of Education and Human Services What are the strongest aspects of your MU education? Being able to learn how to with difficult people in a group Learning how to take responsibility for my work Challenging classes Courses that were taught by professors currently in the field, and the research given. Created a larger and more open-minded understanding of society and social problems. Met a significant amount of interesting individuals. Allowed me to explore a field of interest. Forced me to obtain skills in critical thinking and analysis. Small classes allowed for better professor-student dynamics Expanding my knowledge. I can say that it was obtaining the desire to learn more, achieve higher goals for my life and expand my horizon. Faculty - not necessarily within the classroom context, but outside of class as valuable informational resources I learned I can write well and do oral presentations without a problem. I also learned to work well with others and take leadership. I think MU did a great job at choosing professors who are knowledgeable in the field. I learned more by personal examples the professors provided us with that made the real life connection. This also provided us with great speakers and opportunities to network. I've learned how to stop being so shy about group presentations It was a great opportunity. Learn new leadership skill and research skill Learning from my professors and advisors about ways I can help myself to improve. Learning self-reliance and time management skills Most of the professors are knowledgeable, approachable and enthusiastic. Most of the psych professors were very helpful and pursuing My Criminal Justice program helped tremendously to put me out to the many fields there are to explore. My teachers within the Psychology Program Obtaining a network from different professors One of the strongest aspects of your MU education is being able to communicate with teachers on a one-to-one level about future education plans and career paths. Professors Receiving my education from those who had years of experience outside of an academic standing Research experience Small classes created a better relationship with faculty and therefore had one on one help Studying at MU was a learning experience for me in many ways. I was exposed to people from many different cultural backgrounds and walks of life. Marymount has a very diverse group of

Page 43: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

students which I really appreciated. The professors are very helpful and I feel like I learned a lot in the courses that I took. The professors really teach in a way that is fun but also educational and interesting. The ability to communicate one on one with my professors The campus life The CJ department, continued work on my writing and research skills. The education, teachers, students, and overall experience at MU was excellent. The faculty of the Psych Dept teachers were excellent The faculty was probably the most helpful and contributed greatly to my educational experience. The immense diversity of the individual classes The professors and classes were enjoyable and educational The professors in PSY are extremely helpful except for a few who were adjuncts. The library was a great resource. My internship was super helpful The professors in the psychology department are excellent. The professors were amazing. They took any extra time needed to help. The psychology faculty. They were all wonderful (aside from an adjunct here and there). I learned so much and feel very well prepared to continue my education and find a job. I also feel more culturally aware because of the diversity at Marymount. The small class size forced me to attend class. The strong foundation faculty built with their student to have then learn and understand course material. The strongest aspects at MU are the professors that were within my major The strongest aspects of my education is being proud of what I have written. In addition, learning how a job is from real life experience instead of the text book by people who are doing these jobs. The students I met The teaching styles and class room environment was very welcoming. Smaller class sizes made the learning experience more hands on and personal. There was a lot of writing so my research and writing skills were improved because they were a major focus for the past 4 years Willingness to try new things What aspects of your MU education need the most improvement? Availability of classes during the evening Career/job assistance Class cancellations due to bad weather. We're a commuter school...not many people live 5 minutes down the road and they really aren't taken into consideration on snowy days. Class schedule, there needs to be online classes to help us out with time management Class times, a few professors need to be more available and willing to help. There was only a

Page 44: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

few but those were enough to make an impact. Communication skills are underdeveloped in many faculty members. In a professional workplace it is reasonable that the customer (student) can expect a reply to an email in under 2 business days. This is often not the case with professors particularly adjunct professors. I always wanted more options when it came to major selection. Also, I wish that the advisors placed a bit more emphasis on life after college (i.e. Career options, obtaining a job, etc.) especially towards the end of a student’s academic career. I believe advising needs a bit more improvement. I believe being a double major one should not have to write a senior paper for each major. I am not learning anything from taking two of the same courses, I am more bored in that class than excited. I can think of no aspects of my MU education that needs improvement. I don't feel ready to find a good job. there should be some sort of job training aspects included somewhere (aside from doing an internship) to prepare us for life after college I feel I could improve on editing skills in my writing, and learn to find sources more related to my topics. I think that help with finding internship opportunities and job opportunities after graduation need to be more commuter friendly timed. I think everything from class times to community club meetings can be more commuter friendly timed. I think the class scheduling is a bit off- why are we the only school in the nation that has Wednesdays off? Is this for professors? If so, I think we need to consider students first. Also, I took some classes with individuals that I have no idea how they were admitted-- as in did not know what a thesis statement was and couldn't form a proper grammatical sentence in a senior seminar class.. As our applicant numbers are rising, we need to be more competitive- I did not feel challenged enough many times. I think the school needs to focus on residential help if a student needs help and is living on campus. I would have to say, finding the what truly interest me. I would say psychology class 270 but that has already but taken out of the requirements for graduation. Internship Internship aid Job options with a BA in Psychology (more specific/planning) Liberal arts core, some classes are meaningless. If you an accounting major there is no need to be taking classes like operations management, it’s not related to accounting subject Many of the facilities during Freshman and Sophomore year were sub-par Some classes weren't as academically challenging as they could've been Interesting electives offered were scarce and did not pertain to my profession More interaction with students

Page 45: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

Most of the support facilities need work. Network goes down to regularly for my test, at least twice I had 15 minutes where I could eat when the dining hall was actually open (by twice I mean for a full semester two or three days a week.) Much of the student services does not run smoothly Oral communication skills Some required electives seemed unnecessary for my field of interest and felt like a waste of time and money. Student activities The amount of course sections diminishes the further up you go in year which is a major issue The class formats The clubs lack leadership, tradition, and consistency Students are notified about some event via text on the same day of the event sometimes minutes before. There should be better use of technology to notify these events with better timing The internship program for students that have already had professional experience needs to be reexamined. Requiring a student that is over 30 to do an internship is a little ridiculous. Classes that have over 25 students should not be held in Ghailic hall. They are hot and uncomfortable. In addition the desks in Ghalic hall are too small if you are over 5'8. The level of academic rigor is poor, generally, and over-the-top in very specific classes. Those classes that are sub-par on academic rigor need to be reworked to challenge students and prepare them for continuing education or employment, and those that are far too complicated or difficult for undergraduates need to be revised in order to be more appropriate for the level of education. The liberal arts core was a bit too much at times. The overall campus experience. Accepting such a large amount of people you are poisoning the classroom setting with people who do not care and are disruptive. Grading by professors needs to be quicker. The staff as a whole made the experience quite unpleasant. The technology available around campus, a good deal of it does not work or is outdated. There needs to be some improvement in helping students learn how network in the workforce Teach students about job options in the future If you have any other comments regarding your MU education, please provide them here. Business internship class needs to help students and not be more of a headache to go through Fix bathrooms in Butler they are an extreme safety hazard Had a great experience! I love this school and am proud to be receiving my degree from here!! I love this campus! I think there should be more language courses I would have loved to have learned Portuguese and Italian but they were taught here and my Italian courses I took previously didn't transfer. So maybe add more of those classes It feels like the school doesn't care, teachers care, advisors care, but the school itself does not

Page 46: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

care about the environment it projects. When they try to project a good environment it comes off feeling shallow. When we try to voice our concerns I feel most of them are ignored. And when the school does hit on a major good idea its ruined within a semester or two. Lola's is the perfect example. It was the place to eat on campus, it sucked that they only took Dining Dollars but we could look past it because the food was always, good. ALWAYS, good. Within a semester or two it was changed, it still only took dining dollars, but all the warm sandwiches and most of the menu were stripped to be replaced with like 5 or six different times of cold sandwiches. Sonow it’s the most expensive place to eat and nowhere near as worth it. That’s not the only times it has happened since I have been here but that is one of the more notable. Living on campus is really boring. I hated it. There needs to be more to do, and fun things to do on campus Marymount was a great experience, but there is room for improvement with the internship program and preparation for the job search within our specific fields. More classes need to be available at various times to make the enrollment process smoother. Overall great great university!!! Overall, I believe that I got the best education that I could have gotten. Scheduling of class sections needs considerable help (classes are poorly timed/needed classes have inadequate sessions available and almost always overlap with other needed classes - lots of scheduling conflicts, etc.). Parking on Main and Ballston campus is ridiculous, as a rule. Parking needs to be expanded or permits need to be limited to commuter students, staff, faculty, and a very small percentage of resident students (maybe those that work off-campus, or something along those lines). So proud to be a Saint! Very unprofessional staff as a whole. Campus seems very unorganized with offices being completely unaware of others. Went from a school who felt as if they cared about the students, to now caring about the money the students have. What school doesn't promote learning a language? Professors AND my advisor told me time and time again not to continue German. What values does this "multicultural" campus have that languages are unimportant? Many individuals cheat and use their phones when using disability services for extra time on tests. Stricter regulations should be applied. Your adjunct professors are garbage. They do not care, and those were the poorest quality classes I have taken. I was assaulted by a cafeteria worker and ________ bribed me with $300 off my tuition to not call in a lawyer. There were witnesses and I was mortified that no faculty or the Sodexo managers cared. Your higher level faculty should be re-worked. I would NEVER affiliate myself with this campus or the Marymount name. My dorm life was hell and the facilities were BEYOND poor. I was only lucky enough to get an average to good education by the caring psychology department

School of Health Professions

What are the strongest aspects of your MU education? A few great teachers like ________ and Dr. ________ Accessibility to faculty, access to facilities, access to leadership organizations, preparedness in nursing. Availability of nursing professors Being able to observe, analyze, and execute actions based on extensive knowledge of material (earned in a professional setting) Being able to travel to another country and practice nursing. Being challenged every day Certain professors in the nursing program have been extremely supportive. To name a few, Professors ________, ________, and ________ have always taken into account our needs and have worked with me to make sure that I was successful. The clinical setting that was provided for us during clinical was great facilities. Challenging in the right ways, some faculty presented information very well in a way that I could understand, and my clinical experiences. Clinical experience. International service learning. Close knit class Community Content in classes was very beneficial, and I think I can use it everywhere. I learned so much from all different major disciplines Cultural Competence, Service, Ethics, Critical Thinking Facility were supportive Faculty Faculty were very helpful and you always took away something from every class Forced self learning so that in the real world I am able to rely on myself to continue learning Friendships and some very nice teachers - others, not so much Great clinical opportunities Having small class sizes provided me with the experience of becoming closer with my professors inside and outside of the classroom. These relationships helped me grow as a student. I was very engage in my learning despite the rigorous schedule I had Inter-major classes and athletics Interactive classroom Proximity to DC It is a small school, which allows faculty to focus on students rather than research projects. It was challenging and a well worth experience. Many of the professors are encouraging and make an effort to be available to help their students

MU really helped me improve my writing ability, Thank you! As much as I hated all of my writing intensive classes, I know they are the reason that my writing changed at all. My liberal arts professors encouraged me to pursue to minor. Nursing faculty Overall the entire 2nd degree nursing program at MU was more than beneficial and has set me up to start a nursing career that will impact every job and decision I attain in the future. All aspects of the program were strong points in my education here, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nursing program. Provided critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, and technical skills Small classes, research opportunities, anatomy classes. Teachers are well informed and available to help Teachers that were very supportive and helpful! Some made you feel like more of a person than a number. (________!) The classes were challenging, involves a lot of critical thinking which prepares one for an acute care experience. Also prepares one for leadership and management in any health care environment. The environment was the best people come from all over you learn so much of other cultures The liberal Arts component makes me more well rounded individual with knowledge outside my field. The nursing faculty and education was the best from Malek school of health professions The people. This school would be nothing without the people that make this place worthy of attending. You have some great professors, but you also have some terrible ones. The strongest aspects of my MU education have been very good because I have had my roadblocks along the way but I was able to get through the difficulties. My first two years I was a nursing major however I hit a roadblock that required me to change majors to Health Science. It was the best thing that happened to me and I haven't looked back since. It blows my mind that four years of college have flown by so fast. The professors, advisers, and staff have been very nice and welcoming which is always plus The strongest aspects of the my MU education were: course-required service projects, one-to-one discussion with professors regarding a difficult course topic. The strongest aspects were the nursing aspects and clinicals that were offered. Well organized scheduling Got out on time What aspects of your MU education need the most improvement? It would be very helpful to have a research methods type of class for the Health Sciences. More electives that involve our major. Study abroad opportunities within our major. Liberal arts core needs to be improved Academically, there were some strong professors, and very weak. Professors teaching basic classes should be very strong to set students up for success ER rotations should be set up for those looking for jobs in the ER, even just a semester, and more emphasis placed on EKCs.

Current Nursing practices should be taught- (track care) etc. Advising- making sure they keep you on track and don't screw it up. All of my complaints have to do with living on campus. It was the hardest part of my education to deal with. Campus safety is one of the worst departments on this campus. They are lazy, rarely on the same page, and do not make me or any other student ere feel safe. Some of the people who work in this department are honestly creepy people. Housing is terrible. Please bring these buildings up to code. Butler is full of black mold. Make the living conditions cleaner, and safer! No one wants to live o campus. Make people want to live on campus. Ballston Plugs for computers Better communication with faculty more support from nursing faculty Better teachers in the nursing program. Less busy work Communication with professors and students. COMMUNICATION communication and more flexible class options Communication of university with students Communication- not just from professors but communication from the school, in terms of graduation requirements (i.e. this survey!), snow closings ahead of time etc. COMMUNICATION, organization Commuters and classes so hard to go to a 8:15 am class that's mandatory for major when you live 2 hours away with traffic Creating trust with my advisor...I will never make a decision off of what my advisor said because throughout my academic career, I have been screwed over by advisors many times Expansion of facilities for studying and exercising Quality of nursing advisors Financial aid Hiring teachers to teach class that does not have the knowledge to teach the subject. I had no time to engage in extracurricular stuff, I need to Join clubs and organizations Lack of outlets in classrooms Length of classes- 3 hours at one time burns people out, and does not give a chance to absorb the information and return with questions before next week's class. If you get stuck and don't live on campus this can cause a snowball effect on hindering one’s learning needs. Internship hours- other schools require 21 12 hrs shifts for the internship programs. By the time we are finished with our 8 shifts we only just grasp the true work environment, and we can only do a max of 10 shifts. Marymount is working on this, but the facilities. It's hard to have a sense of pride in my school when some of the facilities are so outdated. The new Ballston campus will give Marymount more of an urban presence, but that is years away. The Rowley renovations are nice, but not always well thought out. Case in point, the lecture halls not having electrical outlets incorporated into the design. Students sit on the perimeter of the lecture hall because that is where the outlets are. The Gailhac Hall renovations this year were a real disappointment. They

Page 50: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

almost went unnoticed. I am hoping they were a stop gap measure vs. true renovations. Marymount needs a true fitness facility for students to workout in. The current space is dated and too small to meet the needs of students. I would also like to see the water bottle fountains that are in Rowley expanded throughout the entire campus. Lastly, the back patio of Rowley that overlooks the golf course is an amazing space that is underutilized. This area could be converted into a large outdoor study and gathering space with planters and tables. So many times in the spring and fall, I wanted to study outside, but couldn't find an adequate space. More classes for health promotion in the Public health minor. More convenient class times and less overloading on class work. More networking More practical learning More technology teaching within my field and more clinical experience opportunities. More variety in core classes My experience was great during my 2 years at the university. Not sure MU labs and open hours Offering more nursing classes at reasonable times and actually having them on campus instead of at Ballston. Senior nursing students shouldn't have to commute to Ballston for all their courses when Caruthers was built for nursing and health science majors. Organizations and communication-Some clinical instructors were not organized and would notify students 9PM-10PM the night before clinical what time and location they needed to arrive. Technical support. The classrooms. I know MU is striving to build a "newer" campus. Also, the office of financial aid needs to be more responsive. Whenever parents or students call to speak with them, they are sent to voicemail or aren't answered at all more than half the time callers are transferred to their office. The facilities need some improvement. It would be nice if there was a 24 hour area for studying, at least during finals week. Also, the dining options are limited. Longer hours and more variety of food would be appreciated. Starbucks? THE NURSING PROGRAM SHOULD OFFER AN NCLEX REVIEW CLASS INSTEAD OF A POINTLESS CAPSTONE CLASS!!!! The BSN graduates are about to take the biggest exam of their lives, the NCLEX. The nursing program should offer a class just dedicated to taking this test to support their graduates. George Mason offers an NCLEX review course, Marymount should seriously consider making this a part of the mandatory courses senior year. It would benefit everyone tremendously! The schedule of classes, the availability of some instructors and the coordination on their behalf to ensure that we successfully accomplish the program without any extra unnecessary stress. Sometimes it felt like some instructors planned everything around the same time and

Page 51: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

when a person has two jobs, or a full time job, and family it is very difficult to manage. There were no aspects of MU education that need improvement Time management. Too much busywork the last semester If you have any other comments regarding your MU education, please provide them here. Academically the school was great, but I did not feel like I had any financial support or access to any scholarships. COMMUNICATION especially for seniors needs to be improved. I didn't find out about the graduation fair until my roommate told me he got his cap and gown. I really wish that the University had sent an email out ahead of time so people can know ahead of time. Overall my MU education was great, I am really glad that I was able to find a school that was a great fit, welcoming, and challenging overall. Dining Hall has made some improvement but still has a ways to go before acceptable. For how long this program has been around it is not organized at all. The nursing program needs to get there act together because I would not recommend it to anyone if they asked me if I liked the program. Great school I have overall enjoyed my time at this university. I understand that they have us do things for our benefit, but I personally feel that sometimes it seems like the nursing program was not trying to work with the students. Some instructors did not listen t our input and all we want to see is change for the incoming classes. It would be nice if the communication within the nursing department was more open. We receive information at the last minute which does not give us time to prepare or plan. Marymount takes money from students therefore, it’s a business as a result MU does not run like it should. Malek school of health professional knows how to run a department with their hands tied behind their back. Outside of this faculty and the student development office for Peer Mentor's everything is disorganized and all people care about is the "military chain" of command. MU has the potential to become a great school but won't get there if the same people in charge don't change first! My education and experiences are very specific and narrow, relative to MU because I am in the nursing program. I feel the nursing department, its programs, and its students are very isolated from the rest of the school. They do their own thing and do not collaborate with any other department or organization at MU. Some of the professors did not seem to be as competent in teaching a class as others. Some of the professors were extremely unorganized and did not seem to know the material or how to teach a class. There were 3 professors that really made a difference in my nursing career and one of them is no longer at MU. It is extremely upsetting to think of how such a great teacher, the most competent, helpful, and knowledgeable in the whole program is no longer with the

University. Thanks! This is a commuter school, MU needs to improve their decision making skills on snow days. Because of my commute, sometimes I can't afford to wait until 6 AM to find out if there is class because I'm already on the road! The most frustrating aspect about MU (especially Ballston) is the lack of parking. I get it...it's Arlington which means no parking but y'all need to improve parking options. I can't tell you how many hours of my time have been wasted in waiting in line and adding/accounting for how long I will take me to find parking EVERYDAY! I'm sorry, but I don't have time for that.

Graduates Students’ Comment

School of Arts and Sciences What are the strongest aspects of your MU education? The ability to take the in class learning and research further into the actual real world via conferences and practicum with real job and real people. The creativity that was re-developed within myself. The growth of new friendships with the faculty and students. Most of all - the fact that I will complete the Masters Degree at Marymount. I'm so proud of the School! Thank you! The exploration of creativity and different design approach. The professors know you be name and get to know you and what your interest are so they can best help you. The teachers are very helpful and they want you to succeed. The program opens up D.C. area for students to really discover the Humanities and it's different aspects.

What aspects of your MU education need the most improvement? I was in the Post Professional MA in Interior Design program and would love to see that broadened to relate even more to those who have worked for years in the field of Interior Design. I would like to see more electives available and known by the Interior Design faculty across disciplines such as Graphic Design and Environmental Design. Limited library resources and the food at WOW is too Expensive. $2.95 for a fountain drink with No-refills is crazy. My hunger but small budget on campus all day doing research can be distracting. MORE CLASSES, MORE CLASSES, MORE CLASSES! I thought the program was great but it lacked in interesting classes. It's hard to stay on track toward graduation when the program only offers one lit or language or humanities class you need and it's not typically interesting. It would help to offer more classes in each field over the summer and give students some variety to choose from. It would also take away the idea that MU summer classes always get cancelled and no one enrolls. Also advisers should be more helpful with course plans. I didn't know about a course plan until my second year. They should tell students about the course plan an offer to go over it with them so they can stay on track. There needs to be more elective options offered for Interior Design graduate students.

If you have any other comments regarding your MU education, please provide them here. I look forward to seeing Marymount grow!

School of Business Administration What are the strongest aspects of your MU education? Superb professors that provide both theory and practicality to the learning experience. Excellent classmates with on the job experience. I feel so confident that I can go to job market and advance in my career. Some superb professors who made class enjoyable and educational by sharing their real-world knowledge and experience. My favorite professors were ________, and ________. My last class will be this summer taught by ________ - she has a real reputation for teaching excellence though this will be my first class with her. Meeting others in my desired profession. I have made friendships which I expect to keep after graduating. Advanced research skills, Hands on approach to business problem solving, a well-rounded learning approach to quantitative and qualitative skills that will be applicable on my current work position or as a forefront for a future job search process if necessary. Awareness of global issues and development of leadership skills. Hands-on experience. Team work Being able to take classes at my work place Building self-confidence and expanding my professional network. Diverse student body, professors with great experience and knowledge Diversity and small classes Evening classes-Great for working professionals Knowledgeable faculty Diversity Faculty Faculty and classroom settings Gave me leadership skills, confidence ability to think critically. Also improved research skills and writing skills. Great professors Helpful and knowledge faculty, convenient schedule and location I liked that some of my professors were genuinely interested in teaching the class and bring their professional experience into the lessons. It helped link together how what we learn at school can translate into our current positions or positions we take on in the future. It provides a very open and welcoming environment to learn Learning a new field of study that complements my previous education and work experiences. The Ballston campus location was great making for an easy commute. Making core classes available in Reston More personalized experience being that it is a smaller school. Professors, Student Accounts, etc...are all very responsive. My MU professors. My personal relationship with my professors - Prof ________, Dr. ________ and Prof. ________

New knowledge of world issues and a better understanding of IT management practices. Practical experience related to my field of employment and direct application of leadership discussions/experiences. Professors and classmates who know you personally, know your interests, and know your goals - and support them to help you get to where you want to be! I can think of more than one instances where my classmates have helped each other find jobs. There are lots of leadership opportunities for those who are interested and decide to "step up to the plate." When you run into genuinely hard times that make it more difficult to focus on your education, the professors & administration don't make you feel like a loser. Instead, they just help you figure out what to do to get back on track. At the risk of sounding like a MasterCard commercial - that is priceless! :-) Professors had a great deal of knowledge in their field of study. Professors were willing to work with students to meet the needs of the student. Quality courses, professors are brilliant subject matter experts Quality education Real world experience of Faculty Some of the teachers provided excellent real world examples that opened my mind to things I would have never researched before. The project in Strategic Management encouraged me to research the development of non-profits and provide guidance to a church in Fredericksburg looking to establish a small business using high school students from the community. Professor ________ had a great amount of energy and always had an example from his personal experience to share. Professor ________ and Professor ________ always invited professionals from different fields to come speak to us about their experiences. Some of the guests even offered to take our resumes. I feel this was the best learning experience overall from Marymount. Strategy and Problem Solving That I can apply the learning directly to my work, and that it is a good balance between theoretical and practical. That the faculty was always available and helpful to students. I enjoyed my classes and thought the content was interesting. The classes The experts in the field in the area are the teachers The interaction with Faculty and other students and the exposure to new educational information in the Health Care Management industry The people--faculty are wonderful, knowledgeable and approachable. My fellow students were the same, providing unique perspectives to my learning experience. The professors professionalism and the knowledge they shared to their students regarding the aspects of legal law. The skills and knowledge I obtained from each class, not only facts but how to succeed in the

real world settings. The strongest aspects of my MU education was the ability to perform items using hands on approach. The strongest aspects were the dedication of the professors and particularly the quality of adjunct professors who have experience in the field. Flexibility with how many courses to take and not having to do a cohort or specific order for most classes was most appreciated. The teachers had real world knowledge The various semester research and projects provided experience-based learning What aspects of your MU education need the most improvement? Scheduling was challenging given that the same courses were often offered the same day of the week. More variety in terms of classes within a given program and day of week as well as individual courses being offered different days of the week across semesters would be appreciated. More real-life case studies and tangible real-life projects is most valuable. Sometimes teaching was too wrapped up in the strategic ideas whereas case study discussions and projects wherein within certain constraints you had to consider the concepts/strategy was more helpful. I noted there were no questions in the student survey regarding the Marymount VA office. Overall, the Marymount VA office was responsive to my needs. However, there is a stark difference between ________ and ________. I'll leave it at that. I've heard Marymount is thinking of shifting to more on-line coursework. One of the key deciding factors for my selecting Marymount was the availability of in-class coursework. I wish there could have been a chapel service held at the Ballston Campus facility between 5 and 6 pm. Additional activities located at the Ballston Location for commuters. A multitude of activities are always only offered at the main campus and during the day which makes it impossible for most students. Administrative staff Analytical writing. Applying accounting methods into day to day work, this course needs to focus more on application. Build a better brand. Enhance your prestige and image. Building and classroom maintenance. Better accounting department. Building maintenance, parking spaces, and power outlets in classrooms Class offerings Coaching students better, especially in terms of classes to be taken. Coaching students professionally. Everything was bad: facilities, parking, teaching staff were the same 4 professors over and over again Facilities, wide variation between how challenging each individual course is I did not receive clear guidance on who my advisor was. I also felt that my advisor was not

Page 67: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

proactive or interested in my experience through selecting courses beyond emailing a suggested course sequence. I think it could have been more challenging and included more technical rather than "soft" skills. I was highly satisfied with my MU education and do not have any major improvements to mention. Increase the number of guest speakers who work in the field of study to present in classes. Lab activities have to be more in the curriculum Last minute surprises at end of program regarding classes registered for. Registration needs to have hands on everything at the commencement of the program for cohorts. Many of the classes I took were similar in content to business undergrad classes I took. Those classes reinforced what I had already learned, but did not provide much new material. more class offerings in Reston More hands on experience on using technology in healthcare management. Mentoring for students in healthcare management is lacking. More internship opportunities through MU, often students have to find their own. More online content for grad students. As a full time professional it was sometimes difficult to leave work and travel to class every week. I prefer the classroom time but a few online sessions from home a semester would be very helpful Most of the classes were not challenging Parking needs improvement Probably offering other electives. Professor ________ can be quite unapproachable at times. The first time I interacted with her, she scolded me for calling her "Mrs." Although I respect her educational background, she should not be so harsh when it comes to salutations. When I finally had to take a class with her, she was never specific on what she wanted nor did she quickly respond to emails. I'm thankful my class with her was the second to last semester otherwise I believe I would have dropped out. She was the only professor/issue I had with Marymount, otherwise my experience was quite pleasant. Six things come to mind: 1) Marymount University is an excellent school with excellent professors that unfortunately does a very poor job of marketing itself (in comparison with the better-known universities here in the DC region). We've got a really good thing going here, and we need to brag about it more, and let the whole world know it! 2) Parking at the Ballston campus is horrible…but fortunately this matter is already being addressed with the upcoming construction (thank God)! 3) Opportunities for involvement need to be improved at the Reston campus. I was already halfway through my degree at Reston before I learned that there is a student organization for my major, since it was based at Ballston. I expressed interest to the Reston campus Executive Director in serving in some kind of student advisor / representative capacity, and never received a reply. This is after I had already helped organize and lead a few events at the Reston campus (which was met with resistance by the Reston

Page 68: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

Student Services contact). It's as if everybody wants to remain neatly within their own job description - however, students and graduates themselves have the potential to be Marymount University's best form of advertisement! 4) THE RESTON CAMPUS NEEDS COFFEE. I have brought this up with the Reston Student Services contact, the Reston campus Executive Director, the Ballston library where there is a coffee machine, Dean Ryerson, and even President Shank, all with no results! How the h*** are we supposed to be full-time employees, part-time graduate students, commuters, and in some cases family caregivers, with classes at 9:00 on Saturday mornings, without being able to get a cup of coffee on campus?!? This made me feel that the needs of Reston students are not really taken seriously! So many of our Saturday classes were begun by everyone talking about where they went to find coffee first! When I got the email that Marymount University now had this new contract for only Coc Some of the classes definitely had more of an undergraduate flavor to them. Some professors were great and I will remember what I learned throughout my career (i.e. ________, ________, ________, Combs). However, others were really not great professors because they lacked real world experience. Instead, they were focused on careers within academia. There is a lot of value to that, but I believe that MBA courses should be taught by professors who have professional work experience. Students currently enrolled in a program should be allowed to complete before any changes. I attended Marymount due to my interest in the MBA Finance specialization. I was however unable to specialize due to the changes made Support developing professional network and searching for jobs The Ballston facility needs to be updated. The Ballston facility, but I know that's being addressed. The financial aid process The improvement I would consider would be learning more about the West Law and Lexis Nexis on how to accurately search for the right case law. The IT department needs to teach students more technical skills such as command skills, help desk and should offer more classes for certifications such as Network+ and Security+ etc. Updating of Ballston campus - and more online education - while also upgrading the online experience Use of whiteboards instead of black chalk board in the classroom. Physical aspects of the Ballston location. Very high Graduate tuition rates when classes are housed in a dilapidated building. When I first decided to do my MBA I wanted to branch out of my marketing background and into a focus in Finance. I was really disappointed when I was not longer able to do a focus in Finance. I was not even able to take extra finance classes. Marymount needs to compete with other schools in the area and it needs to offer a larger variety of classes. If you have any other comments regarding your MU education, please provide them here.

Despite my six-point criticism above, I really do love Marymount University! Getting my Master's degree here was one of my best decisions ever! Admittedly, I won't miss a chunk of the reading, but I really will miss the classroom experience! Great school and good program. Hope a PHD in Health Care Management will be available in the near future. Having the accessibility to an efficient and helpful counseling staff is paramount to gain the trust that the student confers to the university. Unfortunately, I never felt that the counseling department had served its purposes effectively at Marymount. I've attended a larger stated university where each of the counseling staff was assigned to each department for the sole purpose of counseling and without having to juggle with its teaching schedule. I would hope that Marymount would consider to invest on having a separate counseling department with and experienced staff that strictly dedicate their time to that purpose. I am very content with the education, Marymount friendly environment, and support from teachers and other staff members. I enjoyed coming here and wish I had more time to explore other activities offered. Thanks. I believe there was too much team work incorporated into each class taking away from individual thought and creating a freeloading environment. As a current and past leader I appreciate the importance of having employees who are able to work within a team. However, the standardized approach to Marymount coursework of including a team project carrying a high grade weight became a destructor from individual development within the field of study. In my opinion, the time to learn how to play well with others and color within the lines is at the undergraduate level. Secondly, freeloading students can graduate having only put in half the effort since teamwork exercises accounted for almost half of the program. I had a great experience and would consider MU for future degrees. I loved how small and intimate each class was. The professors got to know each and every student by the second or max third class and they were always understanding. I wasn't treated like a student but like a professional. I really appreciated the faculty and their understanding that many of us were working extremely long hours. Not that they backed off the work requirement (they didn't), but they at least understood and worked with me to ensure I could maximize the time I did have available. My advisor was very involved as well. And they helped me tie everything back to real life. I think the program would benefit from teaching more excel and other technical skills specific to Healthcare IT and Finance I thoroughly enjoyed my tenure at MU and would recommend MU to prospective students. I was VERY disappointed with the Ballston campus. It was a very unappealing environment to learn and the parking situation was terrible. The Reston campus, however, was amazing! I would recommend offering more classes at that campus. I would say parking was an issue during my years of education with MU. In addition, communication was lacking and needs improvement regarding the students need.

Improve, have some kind of research wing, recruit smarter people Increase MBA elective options. Make international business trip to foreign country mandatory. It was obvious that one or two of the professors really lacked enthusiasm in the class, and that is so important as a driver for the students. My experience at Marymount was positive, Marymount has friendly staff members and a solid curriculum. I think it is important to help MBA student when they first enter the program, I personally struggled with course planning and balancing work and school obligations. I never met my advisor in person, just exchanged emails. I don’t even think we had one phone call, I went to a school with a larger student population than Marymount and got solid guidance. That is really an aspect I would like to see get addressed. My advisor was great when we communicated, but it would be great to see staff available for a specific purpose, not have instructors given this responsibility among other important tasks. Solid and challenging education, tough but fair There is a major disconnect between the graduate admissions office and the graduate healthcare management program. The application process was frustrating because these two offices didn't share information. If I wasn't an MU alum, I would have given up returning for a second Masters degree.

School of Education and Human Services What are the strongest aspects of your MU education? All the staff were very approachable and interested in seeing each teacher candidate succeed. They offered suggestions and gave supportive feedback, even when it was not requested. Challenging academics, support from faculty, resources. Classroom instruction Collaboration, clinical skills Cost, flexibility with career Critical thinking Collaborative Dr. ________ and Dr. ________ are wonderful advisors and professors. The knowledge of pedagogy and teaching concepts was greatly appreciated. Ethics Excellent university Experiences from internship and speakers in the field. Faculty- faculty members in the counseling department are, for the most part, amazing. Field experience and my internship. For Education major is involving the opportunity to observe a real classroom. Great experience Great location for jobs, internships, networking Great professors/doctors with exceptional experience in the field. Great teachers, excellent overall experience, knowing most of my fellow students, getting two fantastic internships I appreciate that all the professors and advisors have actual field experience and are able to provide guidance. I believe this program is well respected in the field, and while I was employed in my position prior to the program, I do think that Marymount's Forensic Psych graduates are well respected at my organization. I gained skills in researching and crafting coherent arguments. Most of my classes taught me to think critically about the different sides of an argument. I really enjoyed the cohort aspects. I do believe many of the courses provided quite a bit of foundation for me for whenever I go into teaching. I think the core group of professors in the Forensic Psych program are very good. They know their subjects and can apply real-world situations. Their classes were found to be the most challenging, but also the most rewarding. I thoroughly enjoyed my classes and my interactions with my professors. I found almost all of my professors to be extremely knowledgeable in the field and more than willing to help us grow professionally. While I had a few classes that I did not enjoy, generally found this program to be just what I was looking for. I have learned so much in my time at Marymount, and I truly feel that I am equipped with the knowledge necessary to grow in my field. I also really appreciated the opportunities presented y Marymount (internships, workshops, networking opportunities, seminars, etc.). Intelligence Course Internship and study abroad experiences Internship experiences in the DC metro region. Only 4 classes out of the entire program actually challenged me, which were forensic assessment, advanced issues in forensic psych, psych and law, and political profiling. It's a unique degree and helps students network with those in related job fields. Knowledge and helpfulness of faculty; networking opportunities. Knowledgeable professors who were invested in the coursework, smaller classes Leadership opportunities Learning from professionals in my field and learning the importance of professional development. Learning how to be an engaging and inspirational teacher MU opened my mind up to other possible career paths within my field of study. I would assume that many students, like myself come to MU to become criminal investigators. Several of my professors did a good job of explaining the different areas we could go into with

Forensic Psychology degrees. Networking/Connections within NOVA. Professors are very helpful and professional. Professors experiences Provided me with a foundation in working with the population of people I wish to (forensic); Guest speakers and lectures; ________ and Dr. ________ Relationship with professors Small classrooms, direct communication and instruction from professors and in-depth understanding of the theory and practice of education/teaching. So official and informative Some of the classes were useful and academically challenging, like Forensic Assessment and Psychology & the Law. Model more classes after these. Staff who are experts in field Strength of the faculty Supportive Faculty and Intensive internship Teachers and staff Technology and Research methods. The availability of faculty and my advisor were definitely highlights of my time at MU. The communication regardless of time and location was outstanding. I felt that each teacher made time to get to know me as a person rather than as a student in the class. The direct teaching by active professionals in my field of study, the requirement of completing an internship before graduation, informative seminars, and a helpful career services department. The diversity in relation to experiences gained as well as professional backgrounds of my professors helped create a more well rounded experience for me. the education department faculty was very friendly and supportive and everyone was like a family to me which made me feel home away from home The faculty have so much experience that shows their knowledge and expertise. I really valued their stories and information and relating this to their presentations or other means of delivery. The faculty in the forensic psychology department is great and have a great experiences The faculty were wonderful, very knowledgeable The full time faculty are absolutely amazing and I really enjoyed the courses they taught. The internships through the PDS program. The PDS program prepared me for the teaching profession in a way that I could have never imagined. I had extremely strong support from the PDS Director and Arlington Public Schools Coordinator in achieving my goals and learning how to be an effective teacher. The cohort program is unlike any other I have heard of or seen elsewhere. The professors

The professors and students I was given the opportunity to interact with and learn from. There was such diversity and it was very eye opening. The real life experiences it provided. Many of the classes provided hands on opportunities in class and outside of class. Also, learning about diversity and patients for struggling children and minority we will be teaching. The school counseling teachers The sense of commitment and dedication from the staff and other student members in my field of study. The strongest aspects of my MU education were the forensic psychology professors/staff. They are all wonderful and provide a challenging yet fun and interesting curriculum. The student teaching experience. The way my academic studies are balanced with my practical/clinical experience is the most tangible and confidence inducing aspect of my MU education. There are strong and meaningful student-teacher relationships. The school is a good size. I felt I got to know the many teachers I had and I was able to learn distinct skills from each of them. Not just what was taught in class, but how they each taught a individuals. They each have a unique way of teaching that offers unique advantages to their students. Tight knit community. Professors took personal responsibility for success of their students and a provided academic and emotional support. Using professors as resources and to find resources related to my field. Viewing the variety of careers forensic psychology can be applied to What aspects of your MU education need the most improvement? Additional opportunity to take electives, getting credit for internships should be a bit easier, addition of a doctoral option Additional support in securing experiential learning experiences, a more welcoming advising experience Adjunct professors need to be qualified for the specific class they are teaching. A professor with solely secondary experience teaching a solely PK-6 class does not make sense. Ballston parking lot Communication is a big one. Sometimes extended periods of time goes by before receiving a response from a professor on a number of topics. It can be quite frustrating to have weeks go by before hearing back on something. Also, I think a lot of work needs to be done with adjunct professors. I found many of those classes to be almost a waste of my time. Not because I already knew the subject matter, but because I felt the professors put little effort into developing the course and I did not take anything away from them. Some of the core classes that set up the foundation for the rest of the program were taught by adjunct faculty at the time I took those classes. I honestly think I was put at a disadvantage for the rest of the classes after hearing about how the classes have been taught under full-time faculty. Cooperation related to clinical and field experience

Education...hmmm. I don't know. I liked most everything about my education. Facilities at Marymount: outdated/non-functioning computers in classrooms, parking at Ballston. Facilities Field Experience, more relatable professors Getting more educated professors who challenge their students and make them work for their grades versus spoon feeding us. Group projects and assignments made it difficult on different time schedules for grad students. I believe that there needs to be a better set up for picking and training the cooperating teachers for student teaching. CT's should be picked more delicately to determine if they are sufficient enough to further our education and experiences as future teachers. I believe they should also be required to go to some type of introduction or development meeting/conference before taking on a student teacher from Marymount. There needs to me more of an understudying of what is expected of them. I believe that there should be a little more support for those already working in their fields. I was not happy with some of the peripheral services at MU. For example, parking is a huge issue. It does not seem fair that I pay for a parking pass yet am not guaranteed a parking space. Although there is additional parking provided at Mount Olivet, am unable to make it to class on time if I park in that lot. Most of the graduate students that I know have a very tight schedule, like myself, and it is not possible to rush from work to class and make it on time with the long lines in the parking lot and the additional lot being so far away. The fairgate garage was a GREAT solution and I do not understand why the contract was changed to only include classes after 6 PM. I parked in the garage 99% of the time last year without even checking the parking lot, thereby opening spaces for others. Parking passes need to be less expensive, or more inclusive. I was also not impressed with the financial aid office. I waited for my reimbursement check for almost 4 weeks, causing me a lot of financial stress at the beginning of the semester. I don't see what the point of financial aid is if it can't AID me in purchasing my books and supplies for the semester. If there really is no way to disburse the checks before the first day of the semester, then they should be ready to go out as soon as that day hits. Finally, I found that catering to the Ballston location (rather than keeping things centralized at main campus) is the exception, not the rule. For example, I ordered my books to be delivered to Ballston. They came in over 2 weeks late, at which time the bookstore was conveniently no longer delivering books to Ballston. I am a commuter, and as I have stated have a very packed schedule. It is difficult for me to make it to the main campus, even though it is just a few miles away. I missed homework assignments because I could not pick up my books in time for class, when I could have easily retrieved them during a break from class had they been delivered to Ballston I would have preferred more diversity in the electives and course offered. Most of the courses focused on gaining background knowledge about the field and different aspects, but practical application was never addressed. Also, most of the classes are very specific and only relevant if

you plan on pursuing something along those lines. There were hardly any classes that did not focus on clinical application and assessment within investigative work. I would not say there are any aspects of my academic education that would need improvement. I am very happy with the education that I received here. Improved assessment class and improved clinical experiences office. Internship and job placement; help finding resources to aid in obtaining employment; Internship placement, more convenient class times (during the day), greater variety of elective courses Job searching and help with resumes is not easily accessible for graduate students and the university is not efficient at contacting students about information regarding graduation and other important events Last spring a symposium on the education industry was given at the Ballston campus. I found it informative, but a year premature. I would have really appreciated it if it, or something akin to it, could have been offered this spring. (Tho', I have to confess, maybe something was offered but I was just too busy with classes, student teaching and teenagers at home to notice. If so, then please disregard.) lesson planning Library resources were difficult to come by at times. Library resources. Many times I did not use the library due to the lack of guidance about resources and interlibrary loans. More experience in the field of teaching. Perhaps a longer internship would have been useful. More help with post graduation job searching/networking More opportunities to perform research, and in the future speaking to our school districts about getting a stipend for the year long internship. More practical, real life application Needs better financial aid assistance, faster access to funds for students, and a better financial aid office experience. Staff is rude, unhelpful, and extremely slow. Better assistance for graduate students seeking job opportunities post-graduation is imperative. Currently, this is very unsatisfactory and has proven unhelpful Office of the Registrar- wrong on my tuition almost every semester- nightmare getting it corrected. Field placements were also a nightmare for the duration of my time here. Overall policy and procedures at the school that hindered me as a commuter seemingly Placement for field experiences. Professional networking Professors teaching classes that they did not enjoy-clarity of assignments Research. The one research class that was mandatory was not very helpful or applicable for real-life positions. Learning more about SPSS would have helped. Some of the courses I took with adjunct professors were lacking in quality and substance. I was really disappointed in the quality of some of these courses and that the coursework was not

academically challenging. I was really glad to see the new changes to the Forensic Psychology Program, specifically the concentration area for electives. I feel that my degree gave me an excellent overview of a variety of areas; however, I would have preferred an opportunity to have more of a concentration area to focus on during my coursework. Technology is terrible. Classrooms/building are old. Parking is terrible. The accounting office was frustrating to work with multiple times, and the statements that I received had errors that were not quickly addressed. The adjunct professors for the required classes in my program were not effective instructors. In most instances, they did not appear to be well versed in the subject's they were teaching and I feel that it was a disservice to students to have to pay for a lass with an instructor who was not appropriate to teach that class. I also had a problem with the internship requirement. I understand why the requirement exists, however for student's who are already working full time and/or working in the forensic psychology field, the internship requirement really presented a problem because we were not allowed to use our jobs to fulfill the requirement. This program is marketed toward being great for working professionals and that is one of the main reasons I wanted to attend. However the internship requirement and the offering of required classes only during the day worked against the convenience of being a program for working professionals. The adjunct professors need to be of a higher quality. Some of the classes are not academically rigorous at all, particularly Research, Social Psychology of Aggression, and Foundations. The Foundations class needs to be completely overhauled, as it is currently useless. Perhaps you could make it into a career exploration class- we all liked when people came and talked about their careers, as it gave us real insight into our options after graduation. You also need to improve your career placement efforts as well as the internship placement efforts; Katie really did not help at all in securing an internship. The change to the FLP program that includes more electives is a step in the right direction, but there were so many electives that appeared on our degree plan that were never actually offered. The Ballston building, parking, and access to a bigger library in Ballston The classrooms have been remodeled over the course of my time at MU (this would have been something to improve), which creates a learning environment that is more professional and in line with a University. The courses are not practical The facilities- the bathrooms and hallways are in need of improvement (Ballston). The forensic psychology program, besides the classes taught be ________ were NOT challenging. I feel that I learned more from my internship experiences than I did in class. The graduate building at Ballston needs improvement. The internet at Ballston, blackboard The facility and parking!!!! There are many things that need to be improved before I can recommend Marymount to another student wishing to study Forensic Psychology. I do feel I was cheated of my money

Page 77: 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary · 2015-02-26 · 2013-14 Graduating Student Survey Summary . The purpose of this survey is to understand the student experience at Marymount

and time by many courses that were required. The biggest issue I had with Marymount was the non-fulltime professors. I paid a very large amount of money to receive an education from top educators and that is not what I received in many classes. My Neuro, research and psychopathology professors were no better than the graduate assistants that taught me in those same undergrad courses. Most didn't know what they were doing and put very little time and effort into properly preparing for each class. I did not feel I was challenged as a Graduate student should be. Many of my courses were easier than courses I took in Undergrad and it made it hard to take the courses or the professors seriously. A class can have a laid-back environment but still challenge me to think, see ________ ‘s or ________ 's courses. However, most of my classes were blo-off courses and I questioned if the professors even critically graded the papers and projects I turned in. I would've liked a more critical examination of my writing. The broadness of the program was certainly an issue for me, especially when it comes to trying to pinpoint what exactly you want to do after graduation. I was in courses that in no way related to what I wanted to do. However, I think a lot of those issues will be solved in the next couple of years as the program switches to more elective and less required courses of study. I do not feel there is any assistance provided for career searching. Internship placement? Sure. But once we start to pursue actual jobs, help is no where to be found. It is all on us. Another note on internship placement: internship applications are often sent out through the listserv and once we apply or receive the internship we, as students, learn the internship doesn't actually meet course requirements or it is There is a serious need of qualified professors. There are only 2 professors within this program that are actually worth taking a class from as they provide a great learning experience. Time management skills. A lot of deadlines fall around the same time and it becomes a lot to handle on top of a sometime full time job with deadlines as well around the same time Wider access to online journals and articles If you have any other comments regarding your MU education, please provide them here. Awesome! I loved the school counseling program. Excellent professors, professional, caring, and effective practitioners Given that Marymount is a faith-based school, I didn't expect such an ethically and culturally rich and diverse student body. (I don't know why. I must be holding some sort of stereotype in my subconscious.) I am very grateful for the opportunity to have met and studied with so many people from all over the world. My hope for Marymount is that it will continue to grow and reach out without forsaking its Catholic identity, the way a neighboring university across the Potomac seems to have forgotten its Jesuit roots. Had difficulty finding employment in field without some kind of licensure I am happy with everything. It was an amazing experience. I chose this program because I was told there would be a wealth of connections within the area, but when I started looking for different internships it was almost impossible to find those connections. I also had to do most of the leg work for myself. There was not a lot of diversity within the internships offered or the career fields that were being focused on. I would have

liked to have more electives so I could figure out which career path I may like to focus on instead of having to wait until I did my internship to figure out I would never consider a career in that field. This program was not what it was advertised to be. I feel that I have not expanded my knowledge of psychology outside of what I researched myself for papers. The majority of the class material that was covered is all information that I received at my undergraduate university. I received a great education and learned a lot in the time I've spent at MU. I thought this was a great program that really challenged the way I think. I did not have a psych background coming into the program, but this has made me want to continue to learn about psychology in a forensic realm, but also in other areas. I would have suggested this program to other coworkers and friends. I will be very interested to see how this program develops and grows over the next few years. There are some great professors in this program that I know want the best for their students but I cannot say I am leaving Marymount happy or satisfied with my time here. I have made good friends and taken interesting courses but that is not why I chose to pursue a Masters degree. I wish that we had to complete a research project in our research methods class. I felt that there were not many opportunities to present professionally. It is a good school that prepares you well! Thank you! It should be mandatory to meet with our advisor in the beginning of the program to discuss the course load and outline a time table of when I will have to start looking for internships etc. Working a Full Time job and having other outside responsibilities made it difficult to get to campus. It would have been nice to have a sit down to discuss my options before my last year in the program. A lot was on me to figure my way out around the program, and the truth is that you get out of it what you put in. So for future students who are busy running around...make face time, even if you never hear from your advisor, they are there. So it's on the student to go out and seek what they may need. A better policy could be made however, like a reminder email in the beginning to at least have 1 real sit down with your advisor and to set up a time frame of what to expect in the next 2-4 years in the Masters program. A lot happens, but unless the student is prepared for it, they may run out of time for those opportunities. So in the end, better communication will help. Less mass emails and more about requirements Love the program and my experiences at MU but was disappointed with the library never being open when I needed to study (very late at night or weekends), and how I spent so much money for this degree at a private school when I felt cheated because of how terrible some classes/professors were. Overall a great experience. Overall I really enjoyed my experience here and I really think it benefited me in so many ways. Overall, it was enjoyable. I'm glad that concentrations are being added to the program after the class of 2014.

Overall, it was worth it. Thanks! The forensic psychology program shows promise, but it is NOT challenging enough. I almost feel that I simply paid for my master’s degree and did not have to work for it. The greatest opportunity I have ever had. The teachers are wonderful. They have been extremely supportive and encouraging. Thoroughly enjoyed my graduate experience and felt very supported!

School of Health Professions What are the strongest aspects of your MU education? 1:1 with faculty Able to have broad and intellectual dialogue Clinical skills and critical thinking techniques Communication, awareness of different cultures, learning to become both a leader as well as a good group member Convenient class times and campus location. I felt that the professors/instructors really cared about me as a student and about me being successful. Very approachable. Doctoral level of education Faculty Faculty members are always willing to work with students to succeed. Good faculty Great professors who really cared Knowledge of faculty On-site Outstanding faculty, student support, schedule flexibility; faculty are expert clinicians in their fields; integrated and full time clinicals Program is poised to fill a great need in healthcare. Relationships with peers in the field. Small program with accessible faculty Strong community within the education department and good source of networking. Supportive and encouraging teachers. The ability to meet new people and obtain information from their experiences The availability of professors for help outside of class, clinical experiences The DPT faculty and staff, and close-knit DPT community, everyone is so supportive, helpful, and accommodating. The foundational courses such as neuroanatomy, anatomy, and foundations were well-taught courses. The instructors are experts in their fields and are very resourceful and have very creative

teaching styles. They should all be commended for their efforts and dedication toward academia. The knowledgeable faculty, the clinical placement experiences, the hands-on experience in our medical mission trip to Costa Rica The opportunity to develop strong public health research skills. The professors in the DPT program each bring a great level of excellence and knowledge to share with the students. The PT professors are all amazing and are definitely the strongest part of the PT program What aspects of your MU education need the most improvement? Classes to develop quantitative skills such as a biostatistics course. Classrooms need updated. Classrooms with a better set up such as more outlets and tables instead of individual chairs Clinical opportunities available. The web site says there are over 300 contracts for clinical sites but when we needed clinical sites there were not enough for all and completely unnecessary stress occurred. Some student will not finish with the rest of u due to clinical site issues. Communication within the program to graduate students. More opportunities for events geared towards working graduate students. Courses which required development of skills and clinical reasoning such as orthopedics, neurorehabilitation, and clinical decision making were poorly taught. I never felt prepared by courses for clinical experiences, and CI's often commented that they were surprised we did not learn something in class. Earlier notification of clinical placements Facilities Facilities. (Ballston Center is going under construction soon.) Flip flopped between various advisors. More opportunity with people in the field. Diverse professors needed. I had a great experience; financial aid! Job search and techniques, networking, orthopedics course Need to go on-line courses like the rest Need up-to-date for a nursing degree program more clinical sites and a graduate clinical coordinator Nursing administration needs more assistance in processing the undergraduate, master’s and doctorate residency paperwork. This process can be very timely and take months before the contract process is completed; delaying the onset of the clinical residency for the student. Obtaining clinical rotation sites Organization. I felt like the classes (later classes in the program) were a little disorganized. Parking Program needs more university recognition, financial support and promotion. The department website needs updating.

Restructuring of a couple of courses would be helpful, such as turning differential diagnosis into a lecture-based class Some classrooms were really old Some of the classrooms were so old, really uncomfortable environment to study Some of the course content could be strengthened, feedback has already been given via course evaluations, surveys, and class discussions. Structure and organization. Time management If you have any other comments regarding your MU education, please provide them here. Clinical placements is completely biased with some students getting their first choice each time and others getting the left-over clinics. I am disappointed I only spent 1 day in neurorehab and had 4 placements (part-time and full-time) in ortho outpatient. I am also disappointed that we learn Maitland in class, yet none of my 4 ortho afils were at a Maitland clinic. Why do we learn a technique that is not used in this area? Enjoyed my educational experience at MU and can't imagine receiving this quality of learning elsewhere. Get ride of ________ I realize that the plans are moving towards the new Ballston building, but as a graduating student, I felt like our needs were not always met in the current building due to a lack of interest in putting funds towards building improvements. An example of this would be the lack of electrical outlets in each classroom impedes the ability for all students to charge their computer, especially when we have been encouraged to "go green" with our paper printing. While I appreciate the gesture of being able to check out outlets from the library, it did not address the issue of having only 1-2 outlets per each room. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at MU and enjoyed the educational journey to complete my degree. The shuttle drivers were very considerate and provided a terrific service!
