the two separate facades are brought together to create an interior plaza on the site and allow for northern light to enter the center of the library. public space is maximized by extending the public plaza to the roof via escalating stairs. this passageway creates a central void which the library is organized around. inside spaces are quiet and outside spaces are loud but have a transparent relationship to eachother.

through manipulations of surfaces, a connection was formed beween spaces. layers of the platform pull down as layers of the ground raise to create a continuous space. the golden proportions of a spiral shell inform the design of this staircase.

a series of concealed and revealed views take each visitor through a relaxing journey of light in special spaces. yoga areas, meditation spaces, and a bathhouse nesteled in the valley each step down and out as if flowing into the landscape.

directed by the principle of ahimsa, or to do no harm, this project strived to reduce the size of its footprint on the land. this was achieved through a system of steel suspension cables which tether the lightweight wood platform spaces to the mountainside.

on the corner of a residential block and a commerical street, the form was influenced by its context. the building steps up and around from a faculty residence on soniat street to a freret street gallery. student housing exists above, wrapping around an inner courtyard. communal indoor and outdoor spaces are connected to encourage social living.

the goal was to reclaim the narrow infill lot while preserving some of the natural life that had claimed this space.the groundfloor commercial space of a yoga studio influences the parti of the project as this design is focused on balance. a harmony is made between the green space of the site and the two residencies which cantilever over inner garden spaces.

the old city building center engages the community in positive change in the city. reclaimed wood from deconstructed houses are stored and processed in a sequence of bays that branch out as designated by the program and by environmental response. the skin of the building litterally grows from the bottom of each truss to the next to allow for a louvred system of north facing openings.

a ramp hugging the mass of the levee wall gestures visitors along the wall and over it along a platfom leading to a solitary space of reflection

using reclaimed material and the natural infrastructure of the site, a space was created for gathering by the shore with a framed view of the water. the natural form of the tree provides the structure for a platform to extend from the bluff slope, while its canopy provides shade.
