We would like to take this opportunity to welcome everyone to our 10th annual bull sale. Without your loyal patronage over the years this would not have been possible. A sincere thank you to each and every one of you. Over the past ten years the cattle industry has experienced numerous challenges from droughts to floods and the fall out of BSE. However this past season has seen a positive turn around for cattle prices across the board. Looks like the beef business might actually be back in business. As far as the bulls go, we have a number of sire groups represented including some of the old stand-bys and a select group of new sires. Once again, over half the bulls are black, making it one of the largest groups of black bulls to select from in Northern Saskatchewan. There are big, stout January and February born yearlings and a nice package of later spring and summer born 2 yr. olds. We have a bull to fill all your needs! With the continual rise in production costs we’ve implemented a few changes as far as grazing is concerned. The cows graze late into the fall on stock-piled grass and swaths. They have to rebreed and wean a big calf on lim-ited inputs. Fertility, do-ability and production out-put are all a high priority. As well, udder quality, feet and calving ease all come into play when culling. We like to think that the cows are working harder for us than we are for them. We’ve enjoyed the past ten years in the bull business and the many challenges along the way. Defining new genetics, selecting sires and the ad-vancement in embryo transplanting have all been a highlight. However, the most rewarding is the many close associations we have made with the people in the business including sale staff, other breeders and you, the customer! Customer Profile - BMI We are a mixed farm consisting of grain and cattle. Larry and Lana took over the farm in 1979 and now Mathew looks after the day to day operations of the farm. Kent and Scott work off farm but helps when time permits. We farm 2500 acres which are used for cash crops, feed crops, and hay land. Our herd consists mostly of Angus/Sim-mental cows bred to Muirhead red and black bulls. Our cows pasture at the Crystal Springs community pasture. We market our calves in the fall right of the cow. We like using Muirhead bulls for the calving ease while still weaning a big calf. They are very knowledgeable and a great family to work with and we look forward to many more years of working together.

211S was the first female that we have ever flushed and was an easy pick. She has a 2 females in the herd that are 2 of our best. 211S herself is moderate framed, good uddered and very sound. As for the flush it has been a great success with 5 bulls and 3 heifers, who were headliners at Checkers 2011. A big thanks to Meadow Acres Farms, Robb Farms, Bohrson Livestock/B Bar Livestock for their purchases of these 3 heif-ers. We are very happy with these individuals and feel they can do a lot of good in the breed.

“Keg” was a bull that when Justin seen him, he had to have. He is one of those bulls that is so well put together. We really admired his soundness and size of foot, his rib shape and amount of middle. He was a calf with a pile of performance, packed full of red meat. “Keg” was pur-chased with the thought that he would complement our “Kosmo” daughters perfectly and he has. Keg daughters are showing good mothering ability and lots of milk with good udders.

Muirheads TNT 202U is the bull who was Lot 1 in our 2009 bull sale. He was unfortunately hurt that spring and was not able to sell that year. When we showed 202 at Agribition in 2008 he was the highest WPDA calf. We love the stoutness, rib shape and performance of 202. He is also Homo black and mothered by and excellent uddered, sound footed, highly productive female.

Magnum was purchased in the spring of ’09 by Scott Bohrson at Remington Cattle Co. Scott is very familiar with our program and taste in cattle and thought that Magnum would be a good fit. He was perfect! Big footed, large testicles, a bull with lots of shape and muscle, structurally correct and sound not to mention a great disposition. Add all that to his outcross pedigree for us being a maternal brother to the great On Target bull and out of the power bull Magnum. This was a bull that would work in a lot of difference situations. Unfortunately, we will only have this set and a set of 2 yr olds next spring, due to a breeding injury late last fall. These sons will do a nice job for their new owners.

This years offering of 2 year old bulls is both our largest and deepest in quality yet. These bulls are developed on a high roughage, light growing ration and then put to grass till October and then brought in and fed a TMR for the winter. they are fed to last! There is a nice blend of calving ease sires and power sires. They will be able to go out and servie a few extra cows that first year. These bulls are not left overs as they are all April/May borns and none have been sold prior to the sale!
