UNIQUE SDHI FUNGICIDE The new active ingredient in Luna® fungicides – fluopyram – is not a carboxamide. Fluopyram shares the same SDHI mode of action with boscalid, fluxapyroxad and penthiopyrad,but fluopyram behaves very differently. It is uniquely in thepyramide chemical group and differs in shape and in molecular flexibility from other SDHI fungicides. Luna/fluopyram continues to control boscalid-resistant isolates.

Bayer CropScience recommends Luna Experience not be rotated with other Group 3 (DMI) or Group 7 (SDHI) products. Bayer CropScience recommends Luna Sensation not be rotated with other Group 11 (QoI) or Group 7 (SDHI) products.

CURRENT RESEARCHAlternaria late blight: In 2010, a pistachio trial including a treatment of Luna Sensation/Scala® was conducted by Dr. Themis Michailides, UC Davis, at the Kearney Agricultural Center. For each treatment, applications were made on June 3, July 6 and August 5 and the whole tree was evaluated for Alternaria late blight on a 1 to 5 scale on September 20.

Botryosphaeria panicle and shoot blight: In 2011, a pistachio trial including a treatment of Luna Sensation was conducted by Dr. Themis Michailides, UC Davis, in Butte County, CA. For each treatment, four applications were made beginning at full bloom (April 16, June 5, July 7, August 6). Fruit were evaluated for dry yellow/beige fruit on blighted rachises on September 15, 2011.

Luna Sensation and Luna Experience are registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and are approved for sale. Bayer CropScience is establishing Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs) in export countries. All established MRLs are posted on the USDA Foreign Agriculture Service Web site.
