history. The first Saab car was designed by 16 aircraft engineers. For them, the idea of creating cars around the driver was natural. Their philosophy continues to inspire us. In a Saab, the cockpit-like driver’s environment, with ergonomically designed controls and logically placed instruments makes decision-making almost intuitive. Here we design, develop and manufacture Saab cars on the same latitude as Alaska. So it’s no surprise we have a somewhat unusual approach to car design. Welcome to our safety lab.

Moose impact test.Nature in Scandinavia is full of surprises. Which is why we developed a crash test, where a car’s windscreen hits a 838 lbs. dummy moose, in order to help reduce injuries to the car’s occupants. That’s one example of how we team up with nature to develop our cars.

Saab cars are developed where other manufacturers come to test their cars. Up here in Scandinavia, a demanding climate and icy roads offer the ideal setting for tough testing. For us, these are perfectly normal conditions. They’re what our safety engineers experience on their way to work every morning.
