After another hot summer, I think we are looking forward to the arrival of cooler weather in September and October. These two months are arguably the best of the year with clear blue skies, lower humidity and cooler temperatures enticing us outdoors. In conjunction with the arrival of the fall, we have developed many new incredible activities and events that will also encourage you to enjoy the great outdoors. In addition, the NPS has installed 2 new bridges on the nature trail which now permits you to walk or jog the entire 1.2 mile section along the Chattahoochee River. We hope you will take advantage of this incredible perk to being a member at the River Club and enjoy the tranquility of the trail.

We look forward to the return of Couples Nine & Dine followed by live music on the pavilion each of the 5 Friday nights in September. We are also looking forward to variety of other events including the Labor Day Celebration at the pool, a Wine Dinner, Family Night Bingo in the Lodge, the annual Low Country Boil on the Back Lawn, the 3rd Annual Halloween Hoot and Dance, the start of the ALTA Tennis Season, the Annual Spa Week in October, and the Club Championship, Men’s Member-Member, and Couples Member-Guest on the golf course in the coming months. Details for these exciting events plus the many others can be reviewed in this newsletter or on the Club’s website at www.theriverclub-ga.com. Please remember to RSVP in advance if you plan on attending an event by calling 770-271-2529 ext. 10, or via email to [email protected].

The River Club will be hosting two member-sponsored private parties over Labor Day weekend and one member-sponsored wedding on October 8th. For this reason, member dining will not be offered on the evenings of Saturday, September 3rd or Saturday, October 8th. The Clubhouse will close beginning at 3:00 p.m. on these two Saturdays. Also, on Sunday September 4th, dinner service is available in the Men’s lounge beginning at 6:30 p.m. and advanced reservations are required. On Labor Day, Monday, September 5th, lunch will be offered at the Lakeside Family Sports Center as part of the annual Labor Day Celebration. The Clubhouse dining room is closed on Labor Day.

Juan Carlos Polo, the River Club’s Locker Room Manager, has started a shoe club for members. This program allows members (men and women) to have their shoes cleaned and polished for a low monthly rate. The number of shoes each month is unlimited and Juan Carlos is anxious to take care of your shoe cleaning needs. Stop by and see him at the Shoe Attendant station just behind the Golf Shop.

Important River Club Closings

R.S.V.P. Policy

In an effort to better serve you, we ask that if you know you will attend an event that you please register in advance. In many cases it is necessary to have a minimum number of participants for the event to occur. With some events, if a minimum number of participants are not registered, we will unfortunately have to cancel the event, and only those who have registered will be notified of the cancellation.

Cancellation Policy

Please keep in mind when making reservations for the club’s social events and activities, all cancellations are due by 12 noon, two business days prior to the date of the event except when otherwise noted in the article. For events falling on a Sunday, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, notice of your cancellation must be received by 12 noon the Friday preceding the event. Member accounts will be charged at full event price in the result we have not been notified of your cancellation by the deadline. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with the club’s cancellation policy.

Saturday, September 3rd The Clubhouse will close at 3:00 p.m. for a member sponsored event.

Sunday, September 4thThe Main Dining Room will be closed all day, the Lounge will close at 2:00 p.m. Dinner service will be available in the Men’s Lounge. Reservations are strongly encouraged with limited seating.

Monday, September 5th The Clubhouse will be closed all day in observance of Labor Day. Please visit us at the pool for our Annual Labor Day Celebration.

Saturday, October 8th The Clubhouse will close at 3:00 p.m. for a member sponsored event. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Halloween Hoot The Clubhouse will close Friday, October 21st at 2:00 p.m. to prepare for our Halloween Hoot. No dinner service will be available except in attendance of the event. The screened in porch is host to the Haunted House and will be closed Wednesday, October 19th through Saturday, October 22nd.

White Oak Pastures works in cooperation with nature to produce premium quality beef that is healthy, nutritious, and good to eat. Care is given to ensure that all of their production practices are economically practical, ecologically sustainable, and that the animals are always humanely treated.

We believe that grass-fed beef is among the safest of the meat sources that is available to you and your family. Support of this product also enables you, as a consumer, to promote a sustainable food production system that has stood the test of time.

A great deal of medical research has been done to establish the benefits of naturally raised grass-fed beef. There are benefits of eating beef that is produced the way it was before modern factory farming changed raising cattle into an industrial production complex.

The way White Oak Pastures raises cattle causes their beef to be healthy for you. The way that the beef is processed makes it taste good. Most ground beef today, whether traditional, natural, or grass-fed is ground from the “left-overs” after the higher value cuts have been removed.

Finally, White Oak Pastures’ cattle are never grazed on public lands. They are raised by southern cattlemen on their own farms. These lands have been in the same families for generations and their production practices on these farms define sustainability and stewardship.

What are some positive aspects of White Oak Pastures’ cattle-raising methods?

• They choose to allow their cattle to roam freely, as nature intended. They are committed to the humane treatment of their cattle.

• Beef produced naturally on grass tastes better.

• Grass-fed beef is higher in beta carotene, vitamin E, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and omega 3 fatty acids. That is why it is healthier for you.

• Cattle should not be forced to fatten on high grain feed concentrates in industrial feedlots. Their cattle are given no antibiotics and no hormone implants.

• Grass-fed cattle have a naturally alkaline rumen. This minimizes the possibility of E.coli O157:H7 contamination.

• Their cattle thrive on a purely vegetarian diet that contains no animal byproducts. This further enhances your health and safety, and virtually eliminates the opportunity for the spread of BSE or Mad Cow Disease.

• White Oak Pastures’ beef is locally produced by their 140 year old Georgia family farm, supporting local business.

• Pasture-based agriculture is among the most environmentally friendly of the sustainable farming practices.

Butternut Squash 10

Chicken Stock 1 cup

Carrots, peeled and diced 2

Spanish Onion, diced 1

Roasted Garlic 4 oz.

Canola Oil 1 oz.

Celery, diced 4 stalks

Granulated Sugar 1 oz.

Brown Sugar ¼ cup

Cinnamon 2 tsp.

Nutmeg 1⁄8 tsp.

Bay Leaf 1

White Wine ½ cups

Water 2 qts.

Heavy Cream 1 ½ pints

Cayenne Pepper ¼ tsp.

Salt and White Pepper to taste

Halve lengthwise the butternut squash, and deseed. Spray a sheet pan with pan release, and place butternut squash with the interior of the squash face down. Roast at 375° until the squash is soft. Allow to cool down long enough to be able to pick it up, and then scrape out the meat of it with a spoon. Put the squash aside. In a large stock pot, sweat the celery, carrot, and onion in canola oil, roasted garlic and then add a bay leaf. Deglaze with white wine, and then add chicken stock. In a bowl, whisk together granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cayenne pepper, salt, and white pepper. Add the sugar and spice mixture to the vegetables. Add 2 quarts of water and the heavy cream until it reaches a simmer. Add the butternut squash and puree with an immersion blender. Add more water if mixture is too thick. Serve with lightly sweetened whipped cream.

Chef’s Table The River Club Culinary Team is proud to bring back “Chef ’s Table” – a multiple –course tasting menu beginning October 1st. The behind the scenes energy put into a Chef ’s Table to make everything seem flawless to the Chef ’s guests is unsurpassed by anything else in the club. Your server is assisted by the River Club Culinary staff and the Chef will personally explain the menu, course by course. The exceptional evening will provide a memory to last for years to come for you and your guests.

Chef ’s Table evenings require a three to four hour commitment, so you will want to plan on getting seated by 6:00 p.m. They also require a two week advance reservation with a maximum of eight participants.

The menu can be a surprise, or the Chef will personally work with you to create a menu of your preference for the evening. The cost of for the evening is $100.00 per person for the six course tasting menu, and an additional $30.00 per person for wine pairs on four courses. Pricing may change based upon your personal requests on the menu. The River Club presents a special wine and dinner pairing featuring the wines of the Martinelli Winery and Vineyards.

Martinelli Winery is a family owned winery in Sonoma that has been growing grapes since 1887 near Santa Rosa on River Road. This facility was one of Sonoma County’s working hop kilns at the turn of the century, and now it’s home to excellent Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Zinfandel made under the watchful eye of renowned winemaker Helen Turley.. Consulting with legendary winemaker, Helen Turley, Martinelli Winery has positioned itself as one of the premier wineries in Sonoma. Julianna Martinelli will delight us with her personal stories of the family’s history.

Have you picked out your costume yet? It’s almost time for my favorite River Club annual tradition. This year is sure to be a blast with our growing membership and I am looking forward to meeting all the new families and couples that may not have joined us at the pool this summer. As excited as I am for October, we have a lot of fantastic events planned for September.

The 2011 Summer Camp video is almost complete! With a record number of attendees at some of the 10 weeks of camp, this video is sure to capture the essence of a River Club summer! Be on the lookout for the link to be emailed out and will be available for purchase if your child would like this keepsake.

The Activities Staff and I are looking forward to all the events happening this fall. We hope to see you around the Club.

Kids’ KlubKids’ Klub facility and child care program allow members to have child care while taking the opportunity to make the most of the club’s amenities. Come work out, get a tennis lesson, play golf, get pampered at the spa or enjoy the Lodge restaurant while your child experiences the wonder of our Kids’ Klub. A child’s time at Kids’ Klub cannot exceed four (4) hours, and children must also be fully bathroom independent. Toddlers may enjoy Kids’ Klub if a parent is at the Sports Center and available for diaper changes. We request that you call 678-482-6588 extension 308 or 303 in advance if you know you will be using Kids’ Klub to ensure adequate staffing of the facility.

The River Club is going on a field trip! We are going to get tangled up with Rapunzel and Flynn, groove to the music of the bayou with Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen, and dream a wish our hearts make with Cinderlla and Prince Charming. Disney On Ice: Dare To Dream is at Philips Arena and we are hoping to give your children an experience they will always remember.

With football season in full swing, come spend your Sunday afternoon participating in a friendly flag football game. Bring friends, siblings, and anyone else who would like to compete in this intramural sport.

Join us for our spooktacular Third Annual Halloween Hoot! This event has been quite a success the last couple of years and we are looking to make this the best experience our membership has had! A buffet dinner will be served along with a full signature bar.

We will feature a Haunted House for those who dare, a costume parade for the kids, and a costume contest for all with awards. Stop in and visit Halloween Town for the younger children complete with roasting marshmallows for s’mores and Witch’s Brew, pumpkin games, and more Halloween fun!

Take a trip on our hayride while a storyteller shares her spooky stories, get a glimpse into your future with our fortune teller, while a DJ gets everyone moving to the ‘Monster Mash’ on the dance floor. This is sure to be an event the entire family can enjoy, and couples can come and share in the fun!

Symbols of Solidarity

I have a tender spot for those “critical mass” moments when a particular story, photograph or symbol brings awareness to an issue and shifts the global consciousness. One that comes to mind is the emergence of the peace symbol of the sixties in demonstration against the Vietnam War. This symbol of peace is stronger than ever and permeates our culture in various and sometimes unexpected forms. Art, fashion, music and while traveling with my niece this summer, I was “turned on” to a bottle of “Peace Tea”. Go figure.

While researching the history of “The Pink Ribbon” for this issue, I was reminded of another symbol which had a powerful effect on the psyche of the Nation. In the seventies the wife of an American hostage taken in Iran, was inspired by a song to “Tie A Yellow Ribbon Around The Old Oak Tree” and so….in her front yard, she did. When the American press ran the story, yellow ribbons sprouted up across the country in solidarity. For the first time, ribbon became medium, ribbon became message.

A decade later AIDS activists looking for symbolism, turn to the activist art group “Visual AIDS” and turned the ribbon bright red, looped it pinned it to the chest of Actor Jeremy Irons and sent it onto the national stage during the Tony awards. Talk about product placement!

Once again, ribbons had arrived. Overnight, every charitable cause had to have one. After just a short time, they were so ubiquitous that

First on the scene was the Susan G. K o m e n B r e a s t Cancer Foundation. In Fall 1991, mere months after the Tony awards, the foundation gave out

pink ribbons to every participant in its New York City race. This first use of the ribbon, though, was for Komen just a detail in the larger and more important story of the race. To really break out, the pink ribbon would need a situation in which the ribbon was the event. Sound familiar?

In 1992, Alexandra Penney, then the Editor in Chief of Self, was designing the magazine’s second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month issue. The previous year’s effort, inspired and guest edited by Evelyn Lauder—Estée Lauder senior corporate vice president and breast cancer survivor—had been a huge hit.

The question was how to do it again and even better. Then Penney had a flash of inspiration—she would create a ribbon, and enlist the cosmetics giant to distribute it in New York City stores. Evelyn Lauder announced that she would put the ribbon on cosmetics counters across the country.

A week later Liz Smith wrote about a woman who was already doing a peach-colored ribbon for breast cancer.” The woman was

68-year-old Charlotte Haley, the granddaughter, sister, and mother of a woman who had battled breast cancer. Her peach-colored loops were handmade in her dining room. Each set of five came with a card saying: “The National Cancer Institute annual budget is $1.8 billion, only 5 percent goes for cancer prevention. Help us wake up our legislators and America by wearing this ribbon.”

When Self magazine called and told Penney “We want to go in with you on this,” Haley said “I want nothing to do with you. You’re too commercial.” At the end of September 1992, Self really wanted to do a ribbon so under the advisement of their attorneys, they decided to go with another color. They chose pink.

In Fall 1992, Estée Lauder makeup counters handed out 1.5 million ribbons, each accompanied by a laminated card describing a proper breast self-exam. They collected over 200,000 pink ribbon petitions urging the White House to push for increased funding for research.

Within a year, Charlotte Haley’s loop of peach ribbon hade made history and the pink ribbon had become a national symbol!

Let ’s Talk Golf Superintendent’s Update

A nother summer has come and gone. It was another summer that was hotter than normal for a longer period of time than normal. The summer of 2011 started in May exactly where the summer of 2010 left off. In the month of May we experienced 10 days in the 90’s. Normally we don’t see many 90 degree days until mid June. That was followed by 21 days in June, then 26 days in July above 90 degrees. August continued the blistering heat especially the first week with temperatures just below 100. Hopefully, this is not the new norm for this area as far as summer weather is concerned. If so, bentgrass greens may be a thing of the past in this area. But for now, we have made it to September and that should mean some cooler weather which will allow the greens to heal from the recent aerification and be back to normal again. We used a little bit bigger tine this time to pull a core since we did not pull a core in June. Normally we use a 1/2 “ tine, but this time we went with a 5/8” tine to make up the difference. This may add a little more time to the recovery process than normal, but only a couple of days at most.

September is the month we will spray our pre-emergent herbicide to prevent fall and winter weeds. The main weed in focus will be poa annua. We have started to see a little more poa annua around the course which leads us to be concerned because we do not want it to spread and eventually get into the greens. We have mapped out the areas that we had the most poa annua this past spring and will target these areas with a different approach. To help keep the poa annua population down we have decided not to overseed the chipping green approach this year so that we can spray it with glyphosate (roundup) this January and clean it up. We will overseed the par 3 tees and the driving range tee in October after the Men’s Member-Member tournament. Those areas will be scalped down, seeded with perennial ryegrass then topdressed with sand. The areas will be watered everyday for seven to ten days until the seed has emerged and started to root. At that time we will back off the water and we will begin to mow the tees.

I would like to acknowledge my staff and thank them for helping see us through the last two summers. First, is my head assistant superintendent, Lydell Mack. Mr. Mack has been with the club for the last seven years and is one of the finest superintendents I have worked with. His dedication and work ethic is second to none. Next, is my second assistant superintendent, Efren Martinez. Mr. Martinez has also been with the club for seven years. He first started as irrigation technician and was promoted to second assistant this past spring. He knows every inch of the course and has been a great mentor to many young employees that we have hired. Third, is our equipment manager, Brian Whitehair. Mr. Whitehair is in his third year at the River Club after previous head equipment manager jobs at East Lake, Muirfield and Desert Mountain. His experience and knowledge is unmatched in this profession. Last, is my full time and seasonal staff, which some of them have been here for 5 years or more. These gentlemen are the ones that come in everyday and work hard no matter what the elements are and are proud to do so to make The River Club the best it can be and for that, I am truly grateful and blessed.

Tournament Results

Yellow Ball Challenge Monday, September 5th

Time: 9:00 Shotgun

Cost: $35.00 for Members $85.00 for Guests

Format: Teams will be comprised of 4 people with one player per hole playing the yellow ball while the other three players will play a scramble format. Each player must play the yellow ball at least 4 times. Team strategy will come into play as to who plays on each hole. If the team loses its yellow ball, they are out of this competition and will play a four person scramble. This event is open to men, ladies and junior (10+). Players may sign up as an individual, partial team or team of four. Join the fun! Call the Golf Shop to sign up. Deadline will be Saturday, September 3rd.

Upcoming Golf Events

This years’ men’s Interclub came down to the home course. This team match play event was held on July 29th at The Manor and August 5th at River Club.

Three points were available for each match. One for the front nine, one for the back nine and one for the total. After the first match at The Manor, River Club found themselves down 10-8. River Club dug deep as The Manor visited on 8/5. Home course advantage proved true as River Club came back strong with a 15-3 win. The Interclub total was River Club 23, The Manor 13. Congratulations goes out to Tommy Crosby, Chip Burgess, Hal Brooks, Gene Whobrey, Allen Richardson, Bill Knox, David Cheek, Marty Russo, Nick Pappas, Mike Gill, Craven Shumaker, Steve Hamilton and Pete Baker.

What will my golf shot tell me?

It is not often that we hit a good shot and ask what happened? We did what we intended to do! But anytime we hit a shot off line into the rough, a bunker or a hazard; we beat ourselves up, questioning what I did wrong! Of course we want to limit these types of shots and unless we have our instructor playing with us, it often goes unknown exactly what happened. There is one thing we can do that will help us in more than one way to lower our score and keep us from repeating this time and time again. WATCH the shot! Too often we see someone hit a bad shot and they immediately turn away in disgust! Watching where the ball goes will: a) Better help us find where it went and not result in a lost ball. b) Let us know exactly where to take our drop if in a hazard. c) Give us some information as to what happened! Men’s Dog Fight

This year’s Dog Fight has proven to be very competitive with many changes at the top of the standings. The last day to earn points for the season long Men’s Dog Fight will be Saturday, October 22nd. Remember that you must have a minimum of 12 appearances on Men’s day to be eligible for the season ending payout. The top 6 players in the standings will receive their winnings and will be eligible for random club team events in the coming months. There are only 6 Men’s Days left before we crown the champion, so make sure you plan on playing in the Dog Fight to try and win the big money.

The golf course is not the place to work on our swing and make change after change but if we can figure out one thing that is hurting us; it can help us get off the course without doing any additional harm to our swing and game. By watching the direction our ball starts and then moves during its flight will point out two very important actions during our swing. The first has to do with the direction the ball starts; it will show us the swing path taken during our swing. The second is the direction our clubface is pointing. With these two factors there are 9 different types of shots you could hit at anytime.

For a golfer who swings “Over the Top” or “Outside – In” the ball will start left of the target and then depending on the clubface move from there. See the red illustration to the left. A pulled swing path with an open clubface will give a pull-fade which will result in a straight shot. So a pull swing path will work great unless we have a closed clubface. The green illustration shows the way a ball will react for someone who has a correct swing path. This is the one desired by most golfers as an open or closed clubface will not lead into too much trouble. The blue illustration shows the path of a swing “Inside – Out” or someone who “Pushes”

the ball. For this swing path a desired clubface would be closed resulting in a push draw. Each person will have a swing path that is natural to them and then it is important to have the clubface in the correct position to give a desired shot.

As you can see there are many different ways to hit a ball to the left or the right. By paying attention to the start and continued flight of the ball, it will let us know what part of our swing is breaking down; path or club face. A few thoughts to help get you in off the course are: Path – try taking a shorter back swing and not worry about the distance of your shot as much. Club face – check your grip to make sure it is correct and then let your body power your swing versus trying to use your hands too much.

Tennis TidbitsT he River Club teams have all been out on the courts working hard to get their games ready for the upcoming ALTA season. Our five ladies teams begin play on Thursday September, September 8th and our Men’s and junior teams on Saturday 10th. All home matches will be posted in the Tennis Pro Shop so that we can have plenty of supporters on home match day. Let’s make a personal goal of being the best doubles partner we can be this upcoming season. Take note of the tips from the pro for further information on how you can be that partner…….

It was a small but fun group that gathered at the courts for the Tennis and Texas Hold ‘Em Poker Night. The temperature was hot but the tennis was hotter as tennis and poker hands were played to discover our winningest teams. Our winners were Michael Winwood and Sandy Reilly who each won old editions of tennis magazine! They were ecstatic with their prize and so happy that they won! But obviously the two players that needed the most help with their tennis were Leslie Perlman and Tracy Salyer! Because of their last place finish they each received lessons from Coach Pat and Coach Alan.

Thank you to all the players that attended both the Aussie tennis night and Tennis & Texas. Those that attended all enjoyed themselves thoroughly.

The River Club Boys:

The River Club boys ALTA team is ready to excel this ALTA season. They are working very hard to make this a successful season. They are working hard on their games and Coach Pat has them ready to go.

The River Club will be having both 12 and under and 14 and under teams this coming season.

During the fall months there will be multiple tennis opportunities for your child to play tennis. Please note the appropriate group and level for your child.

You can select to come once or twice per week but you will need to select your day prior to the season.

Pre-Comp group: Children that are looking for a more focused and serious learning situation, have played ALTA and are looking toward being more competitive.

4-6 yr olds: Hand eye development, skill building

6-8 yr olds: Focus is on movement, rallying and tennis skills in an effort to be able to play tennis.

How to become a great doubles partner

People often come to me with problems related to their doubles partners and questions about how to become more successful as a doubles team. Some ask how to choose a partner, and others want to know how to become a better partner themselves.

Too often players think that the ideal partner would be the best player, but that’s not always true. Doubles is very different from singles in that the whole has to be better than the sum of its parts. Just like in basketball, the best one-on-one player will not always be the most successful player in the team concept. Here are some tips for becoming the best partner you can be:

1.Don’t sell your partner out. Don’t blame them for a loss. On the flip side, be willing to give them credit for a win, even if they didn’t do much to earn it. This will show them that you are there for them in good times and bad and that you’re willing to share the credit with them when good things happen. Everyone will want to play with you.

2. Step up when they’re struggling.

When your partner is having a difficult time, look at it as an opportunity to bring something special to the team. Bring more focus to your game and take the situation as a challenge to see if you can raise your game under adverse conditions. If they can’t win a point on their return, then you have to win every point on your returns. Here’s your chance to play your best! If you can’t, maybe you’re not as good as you think.

3. Know what they need.

You almost need to be a chameleon when you play with different partners. If you’re good at interpersonal relationships you will get a sense of the best way to offer support and build confidence in your partner. What works with one partner may not work at all with the next. Sometimes even the same partner needs different things on different days. The bad news is that if you struggle with relationships you will probably have a difficult time being a good partner no matter how good a player you think you are.

4. Be consistent, not flashy.

You have to make a choice. You can look flashy or you can win but you can’t do both. No one wants to play with someone whose goal is to make a lot of big shots and spends the rest of the time missing. It’s very unnerving for your partner. You should be trying to set your partner and the point up, not try a lot of ego shots.

5. Relax.

You know that when you’re tense, the people around you can feel it. The same is true on a tennis court. Whatever is going on, whatever the score, you need to look at it as an opportunity. As long as the match is going on there is time to try something else. Whether you win or lose you can learn to be more resourceful and resilient, two traits that will serve you well in future matches.

6. Don’t coach your partner!

This is the most common and the most fatal mistake that players make and is a surefire way to ensure that no one wants to play with you. The minute you start coaching your partner, you are making them feel that you think you are the superior player and that you don’t trust them. This

will lead to tension, and an inability for your partner to play with a clear mind and a relaxed mindset. If you really are the stronger player, you need whatever you can get from them. Assume that is going to be very little and take the responsibility on you. Let them know that you trust them and that you are ready, willing and able to take the heat without turning on them. If you can get their best, you have the best chance of being successful. It’s not realistic to think that you are going to teach someone something new or get them to change a pattern that has been part of their game for a long time. Two things I try to do that work well with weaker players are:

a. Take the blame, even when they miss. If your partner misses a first volley, tell them that you’re sorry that you didn’t help them by poaching. This shows them that you are looking inward for ways to help the team.

b. If there’s something strategic that you think might help them, say it to them in reference to yourself. Here’s an example: “I have to remember to hit my passing shots down the middle rather than going for risky shots down the alley.” Or, “we can’t win if all the points keep ending on my racquet!” If they don’t catch the hint, at least you tried in a positive way.

I hope by now you’re realizing that the same things that make you a good spouse or friend also make you a good tennis partner. The willingness and desire to do more than your fair share, to share the credit and the blame, and to stay calm under pressure are the keys. Wanting a result too much will make this even more difficult. If what you are seeking is to be able to fulfill your potential on a regular basis, short-term thinking and focusing on results rather than the process will never get you there and will make it much harder to connect with another person. I see so many people who look (and act) unhappy when they are playing matches. The only moment that matters to them is the moment the match ends. That will

determine whether they will have relief or sorrow. In all my years of playing I have met very few players who truly love every minute of competition, regardless of the score or the result. But, those who do are the best partners. Work toward that goal and make your tennis experience much more enjoyable.
