Page 2: 2011 Harrogate International Festival Fringe

At one point in last year’s Fringe, esteemed music critic David Stubbs of The Wire magazine said Harrogate was “the coolest place in Britain right now.” He was right, if a little worse for wear.

This year’s mini-fest aims to be broader and better, bringing modern music, art and literature to this Victorian town’s leafy streets.

It’s the result of local people doing it for themselves, local organisations such as Kula Productions, Poems, Prose & Pints, 108 Fine Art, RedHouse Originals, Kamamica, Boiling Frog. . . with the support of its big sister, the Festival.

Visiting guests include some of the most inventive names in recent pop history - Julian Cope of the Teardrop Explodes, Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals and Edwyn Collins of Orange Juice, all of them showing that creativity still counts. Their creativity, and yours.

We’ve built our reputation on bringing quality classical and world music to the region since 1966.

This year, the Fringe is here to break down boundaries and embrace the creative energy and exciting crossover between music, literature and art.

Special thanks go to our Festival Partners who have helped to make this happen.

We hope 2011 offers something for everyone to get involved and shake things up.

Set in a British country house in the 1920s, Hay Fever follows the outlandish behaviour of the Bliss family when

they each invite a guest to spend the weekend.Best described as a cross between high farce and a

comedy of manners, Hay Fever is one of Noel Coward’s most popular plays.

Family man Lewis Angel is happy and content. But life threatening events are bubbling away and time spirals

out of his control. A powerful new musical with an unpredictable storyline.

She began her quirky career in cabaret and burlesque clubs, once joked about slumming it at festivals saying,

“anywhere you can’t wear stilettos just isn’t worth going” (we’re sure Harrogate will meet her approval!). A fan of
