    Program Design and PurposeThePBLCompetitiveEventsProgramexempliestherangeofactivitiesandfocusofFBLA-PBL,Inc.Theseeventsarebasedon

    projectsdevelopedfromthegoalsof FBLA-PBLandthecurriculaof businessprograms.FBLA-PBLiscommittedtofacilitatingthe

    transitionof itsmembersfromtheireducationaldevelopmentintotheircareerpath.TheCompetitiveEventsProgramplaysacentralrole

    indeliveringonthiscommitment.Theprogramallowsmemberstodemonstrateandvalidatetheirmasteryof essentialbusinessconcepts,skills,andknowledge.Inaddition,membersparticipatinginthis

    programwill:

    demonstratetheircareercompetencies,businessknowledge,and

    job-relatedskills; expandtheirleadershipskills;

    demonstratetheircompetitivespirit;and receiverecognitionfortheirachievements.

    introductionThissectionincludestheguidelinesfortheCompetitiveEventsProgramoftheNationalAwardsProgram(NAP)forthePBLdivision.

    Theseguidelinesandtheprogramtheyrepresentaretheresultofmanyhoursof

    hardworkonthepartofmanydedicated

    individualsforaperiodofmanyyears.Theircommitmenttothisassociationandtheirworkarerecognizedandappreciated.

    Mission StatementNAPsmissionistopreparestudentsfor

    successfulcareersinbusinessthroughsupportforcurriculumdevelopmentandinnovative

    assessmenttools.Tohelpmeetthatcharge,the Competitive Events Program has been

    developedandmadeavailabletolocaland

    statechaptersforuseinassessingstudents

    Thereviewprocessisdesignedtorespondinastimelyafashionas

    possibletothechangingenvironmentinwhichbusinessndsitself,whileensuringappropriateinputandparticipationfromlocalandstateadvisers and members.

    Ingeneral,theNAPCommitteeiscommittedtoregularreviewof all

    competitiveevents.AlleventsareevaluatedfollowingtheNLCforadministrativeandoperationalimprovements.Inaddition,eachevent

    isreviewedonceeverytwoyearstoensurethatthecontent,focus,andobjectivesoftheeventcontinuetoberelevant,timely,andappropriate

    toFBLA-PBLprogramsandobjectives.Finally,theNAPCommitteewelcomesandencourageslocalandstateadvisers,members,orotherinterestedpartiestosubmitideasforeventimprovementsor

    additions.IndividualsdesiringtosubmitrecommendationstotheNAPCommittee,ortomakecommentsaboutthecompetitiveevents

    program,areencouragedtoreviewtheprocedures.

    General informationTheadministrationandconductofPBLsCompetitive Events Program is vested in

    thenationalstaff,underthedirectionof theNAPCommittee.Membersof theNAPCommitteeareselectedbasedontheir

    experienceandexpertiseinthedevelopmentand/oradministrationofcompetitiveevents.

    Committeemembersservethree-yeartermsandareresponsibleforapprovingevent

    additions/deletions,ensuringeventsarecurrentandrelevant,developingguidelinesforcompetitiveevents,andadministeringthe

    competitiveeventsprogramattheNationalLeadershipConference(NLC).

    TheNAPCommitteefollowsadeliberate

    processinreviewingandupdatingtheCompetitive Events Program.

    Travelandinteractionwithstudentsfromotherschoolsare

    tremendouslearningopportunitiesforstudents.

    Competitiveeventscanbehelpfulinbuildingschoolspiritandinpublicizingabusinessprogram.

    Delayingcontestantselectionaslongaspossibleisencouragedsomorestudentsarestrivingformasteryorexcellenceinaparticular

    area.

    AteacherscompetenceoreffectivenessshouldnotbejudgedbythenumberofPBLwinners.Ateacherisnotanexcellentteacher

    simplybecauseastudentwinsacompetitiveevent.

    beconductedbyparticipantswhoauthoredtheevent.Inthecaseofateamevent,atleastoneauthormustgivethepresentationattheNLC;however,allteammemberswhowishtoberecognizedasnationalwinnersmustregisterfortheNLC.Noreplacementorsubstituteswillbeallowed.

    ThetopicsforBusinessEthics,BusinessPresentation,Computer

    Game&SimulationProgramming,DigitalVideoProduction,EmergingBusinessIssues,andWebSiteDesigneventsareincludedineachof theeventguidelines.

    Foralleventsallowingequipmenttobeused,theequipmentmustbeprovidedbytheindividual,team,orchapterforeachevententered.Ascreen,table,LCDprojector,andelectricalpowerwillbeprovidedon-site.InternetaccesswillbeprovidedforWebSiteDesign.

    oRecording of Presentations. Noaudioorvideorecordingdeviceswillbeallowedinanycompetitiveevent.Participantsintheteamperformanceeventsshouldbeawarethatthenationalassociation

    reservestherighttorecordanyperformanceforuseinstudyortrainingmaterials.

    oEvent Entry Forms. Thestatechair,ordesignee,mustcertifythe

    statesentriesontheofcialonlineentryform(s).

    o Event Verication.Competitiveeventchangesmaynotbemade

    aftertherstFridayinJune.Deletionsaretheonlychangesallowedon-site.

    o Event Schedules.Participantsmustreportontimefortheir

    competitiveeventorbedisqualied.

    o Competitive Event Results.Unlessspecicallyindicatedinanindividualeventsguidelines,competitionsatthenationallevelwillbe

    judgedusingtheseprocedures.Inallcaseswherejudgesareinvolvedinscoringanevent,thedecisionof thejudgesisconsiderednal.Allannouncedresultsarenalupontheconclusionof theNLC.

    A. Individual Events (objectivetestsonly).Tieswillbebrokenbycomparingtheperformanceofaffectedmembersonthelastten

    questionsof theexam,thenbytime,andthenbythenextten(10)questions.

    B. Individual, Team, and Chapter Events(reportsand

    presentations).Allmaterialswillbescreenedtoensurechaptershavefollowedtheregulations.Allmaterialssenttothenational

    centerwillbeprejudged.Aseparatepanelofjudgeswillevaluatethepresentations.Finalrankisdeterminedbytotaling

    theprejudgedscoresandthepresentationscores.Theproject/

    reportscorewillbeusedtobreakatie.C. Individual and Team Events (objectivetestsand

    presentations).Theobjectivetestportionof theseeventswillbetakenattheNLC.Theperformanceportion,includingwritten

    materialswhereappropriate,of theseeventswillbeevaluatedbyapanelof judges.Theobjectivetestwillbeusedtobreakatie.
