Rollins College proudly celebrates its 43rd year sponsoring the Summer Camp program. This year’s camp is packed full of unique and exciting adventures for your camper. The traditional day camp is open to children who have completed Kindergarten through 5th grade, as of June 2010. The Explorers camp program is open to campers that have completed 6th and 7th grades.

The goal of the Rollins College Summer Camp program is to combine interesting, hands-on activities with innovative course content to create a rewarding educational camp experience. Courses are designed to enhance each camper’s ability to discover new areas of interest and strengthen academic progress. Each course provides in-depth subject exploration while maintaining a fun summer camp atmosphere. We hope to help each camper develop an appreciation for lifelong learning, make new friends, and renew existing relationships.

No other program in Central Florida offers your child the opportunity to experience learning in such an outstanding collegiate environment. Rollins College is ranked as one of the finest liberal arts colleges in the nation. This level of excellence is the foundation upon which we base our standards for the Rollins Summer Camp program.

First Day Information

Summer Camp Check-in and Orientation Who: Campers, parents, and guardians What: Summer Camp check-in and orientation When: 1st day of camp (June 14 and/or July 12) Check-in begins at 8:15 a.m. Orientation is at 8:45 a.m. Where: Knowles Memorial Chapel, Rollins College Why: Orientation provides an opportunity for the camp leadership team to welcome all campers. Important information (including drop-off/pick-up, etc.) will be distributed and summer camp merchandise will be available for purchase. Attendance is not required, but it is strongly encouraged.

Please park in the SunTrust parking garage (Lyman/Park Avenue) and walk to campus. Follow the signs to the chapel. Bring your parking garage ticket so it may be validated when you pick up your camper’s schedule and name tag.

If you cannot attend this important session, please visit the camp Web site for important announcements, which will be posted a few days prior to the first day of camp. If your camper is not attending the first day of camp, please do not pick up their schedule or name tag. Both the schedule and name tag will be distributed on the first day the camper attends.

Snacks & Lunches

Snacks

Please send a snack with your camper each day. The instructors will allot time for snacks during the 2nd class of the day.

One afternoon snack will be provided for each camper during P.M. Supervised Recreation.

Lunches

The lunch program is included in the cost of tuition. Vegetarian options are available on a daily basis. Please visit our Web site for the lunch menu.

Camp Safety Camp safety is our top priority. Children are accompanied by their teachers or counselors at all times. All staff members have been carefully screened in accordance with Florida State Law. All instructors selected for the Summer Camp program are experienced educators from the Central Florida community.

Camper Checklist

Visiting your Camper You may visit your camper anytime during camp; there is no specific parent’s day. You must check in at Camp Base to receive a visitor badge and you will be informed of your camper’s location at that time. You must check-out at Camp Base prior to leaving. Do not take your camper home without signing out at Camp Base.

Parking 15 minute parking spaces are located at Camp Base. For longer parking, park in the SunTrust Parking Garage (Lyman/Park Avenue). Bring your parking ticket for validation.

Teambuilding Challenge* Up for a challenge? This course blends a variety of physical and mental activities designed to foster creativity, collaboration, and teamwork. Campers will support each other in a group setting, and develop increased levels of agility and physical coordination. *Pathfinders only

Team Sports Come out and play! A variety of games, such as co-ed flag football, kickball, and other similar games will be played. Campers will build skills such as eye-hand/eye-foot coordination, balance, and agility. Special emphasis will be placed on teamwork, group strategy, cooperation, sportsmanship, self-esteem, and fun!

Tennis Classes are structured for the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Young athletes will learn the rules of the game, including court etiquette. This course will include instruction in forehand and backhand strokes, serves, volley, overhead smash, and footwork. Tennis racket required.

Beginner’s Tennis* This course emphasizes beginning tennis techniques. All ages welcome! Tennis racket required. *Additional option. This class meets from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and has a one-time fee of $249 per session, per child.

Competitive Tennis* Take your tennis skills to the next level! This course will emphasize various tennis techniques for experienced tennis players. Campers will engage in tournament-style play. Tennis racket required. *Trailblazers & Pathfinders only. *Additional option. This class meets from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and has a one-time fee of $249 per session, per child.

Yoga & More* Find your center. Yoga increases flexibility and strength, and encourages campers to gain an overall sense of wellbeing. A combination of poses, games, group activities, and relaxation time will be used in a non-competitive environment. Yoga will take place in the comfort of an air conditioned studio. *Session A only

Fitness This course combines fitness and fun for girls and boys. A variety of techniques will be used, including strength training and cardio. Group exercise will take place in the comfort of an air conditioned studio. Sailing & Canoeing* Campers will gain understanding of the fundamentals of sailing. Instruction will take place on beautiful Lake Virginia. Water safety is emphasized; life jackets are worn at all times while on the lake. Basic swimming skills required. Swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen required. NEW! Rollins Camp is proud to introduce kayaking as part of the Sailing & Canoeing course curriculum. *Campers must be at least 8 years old to participate. Advanced Sailing & Canoeing* This program is designed for the advanced boater. Swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen required. *Campers must have previously taken a Rollins Sailing & Canoeing course. Swimming This multi-level course will introduce beginners to the basics, as well as challenge the advanced swimmer. Certified lifeguards and instructors will be present at all sessions. Swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen required. Beginner’s Swimming* This course is geared toward the beginner swimmer of all ages. Basic swim techniques and water safety are emphasized. Swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen required. *Additional option. This class meets from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and has a one-time fee of $249 per session, per child. Competitive Swimming* This course will emphasize various swimming techniques for experienced swimmers. Campers will engage in competition-style drills. Payments

• Final payments for Session A are due by April 30, 2010. • Final payments for Session B are due by May 28, 2010.

If full payment is not received by the published dates, your camper’s registration will be released.

Payments may be made by check or money order in person, or by mail. Online payments may be made with an e-Check (electronic check), MasterCard, Discover, or American Express only. Please visit the Fees & Payments section on our Web site for online payment instructions and service charges.

By registering your camper, the parent/guardian agrees to bear responsibility for full payment, and should a payment be returned for insufficient funds or no approval by credit, the parent/guardian agrees to pay for all fees associated with collection of due funds, including attorney’s fees.

All requests for refunds and cancellations must be submitted in writing. A request may be e-mailed or mailed to the Rollins College Summer Camp program.

Cancellations for Session A made prior to April 30 will receive a 100% tuition refund, after the deduction of the $250 non-refundable deposit.

Cancellations for Session A made between May 3 and June 14 will receive a 40% tuition refund, after the deduction of the $250 non-refundable deposit.

Cancellations for Session B made prior to May 28 will receive a 100% tuition refund, after the deduction of the $250 non-refundable deposit.

Cancellations for Session B made between May 31 and July 9 will receive a 40% tuition refund, after the deduction of the $250 non-refundable deposit.

Cancellations made within the first week of each camp session will receive a 25% tuition refund, after the deduction of the $250 non-refundable deposit.

No refunds after the first week of camp. No refunds if the camper is dismissed from the program. No refunds or discounts granted for missing camp due to

planned vacation or school schedules. "No shows" who do not cancel their registration are liable

for the entire camp tuition and fees.

Enrichment Cont’d Creative Thinking Think outside the box! Creative thinking and problem-solving skills are developed using entertaining and thought-provoking games and puzzles. Campers will build analytical skills as they learn how to devise strategies to be successful game players and puzzle solvers. Fun with Forensics Campers put on their detective caps to solve mock cases. A variety of scientific methods will be applied to “crack the case”. Money Matters* Money does matter! This course is the perfect combination of finance and fun. Campers will gain a basic understanding of money management and budgeting through fun activities, including planning for higher education, job selection, as well as real estate and automotive purchases. *Pathfinders and Explorers only Movie Makers* Explore the media world and unleash your creativity! Campers will create digital media productions while working out of the Rollins television studio. *Explorers only. Session B only. Robotics* Science, technology, and math skills will be used while building robots and machines. Teambuilding is emphasized as campers work in small groups to solve challenges during the design, build, and test phases of their projects. *Session B only

Enrichment Aeronautics* Blast off with aeronautics! This “out of this world” class will answer intriguing questions about aviation and aerospace. * Session A Only Advertising Campers will explore the world of marketing and advertising. This class will challenge and inspire campers as they focus on specific skills to improve their writing. *Pathfinders and Explorers only

Amazing Animals Learn about different types of amazing animals and their habitats. In addition to creative classroom experiences, campers will venture out across the Rollins campus in search of local wildlife. Building Structures How do you construct a building from toothpicks? This question and more will be answered as campers combine math and science skills to design, build, and test different architectural structures. A variety of materials will be used. Book Club* Both public and private school required reading texts will be used as campers engage in discussions and hands-on activities to bring the titles to life. Text titles will be published prior to the start of camp (check the Web site in May). Each Camper may bring their personal copy of the book club title or borrow a copy from the camp library. *Voyagers and Trailblazers only Campers in the Kitchen Measure in one cup cooking instruction, fold in a pinch of fun, and sprinkle in nutritional facts about the food pyramid. Blend all ingredients together to create a learning experience that will help campers make healthy food choices. This class will incorporate measuring skills, teamwork strategies, and proper dining etiquette.

How to Build a Schedule & Register

Determine the camper’s age group: Voyagers, Trailblazers, Pathfinders, or Explorers.

Review each of the curriculum sections: The Arts, Enrichment, and Sports. Locate courses offered for your child’s age group. We recommend a balance between the three.

All Voyagers, Trailblazers, and Pathfinders are required to take four courses. Explorers are required to take three courses. A.M./P.M. Supervised Recreation and A.M. Swimming/Tennis classes are optional.

Select the courses your camper would like to attend. Make sure you choose two alternate courses per time slot; this will expedite the registration process. Visit the Summer Camp Web site on the appropriate date and click on the How to Register link or follow the instructions provided after “checking-in.”

Online registration for all campers is required. The Summer Camp Administration Office will be open for assistance from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2010 for returning campers and siblings, and from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 2010 for new campers. The Administration Office is located in the Hamilton Holt building at 203 Lyman Avenue, Winter Park, Florida, 32789.

Wait List

In the event that a class you would like to enroll in is full, you may be put on the Wait List.

If a space opens in a class, the first person on the Wait List for that class will be automatically added to the class and the parent(s)/guardians(s) will be notified of the change.

Campers on the Wait List take precedence over any schedule adjustment requests made during the first two days of camp.

Your camper may be added to the Wait List for multiple classes.

If you would like your camper to be added to the Wait List, please contact the Summer Camp Administration Office at 407.646.2604.

Schedule Adjustments

We make every attempt to accommodate requests for schedule adjustments. Requests must be presented in writing or in person. Schedule Adjustment forms are available under the Resources section of the Camp Web site.

Once camp has started, schedule adjustments will only be accepted during the first two days of each camp session.

Schedule Adjustments for Session A will be accepted during office hours (8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) on June 14, 2010 and June 15, 2010. The campers’ new class schedules will take effect on Wednesday, June 16.

Schedule Adjustments for Session B will be accepted during office hours (8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) on July 12, 2010 and July 13, 2010. The campers’ new class schedules will take effect on Wednesday, July 14.

The first schedule adjustment completed (per camper) is complimentary. Subsequent schedule adjustments will incur an administrative fee of $25 per adjustment. (This fee does not apply to schedule adjustments from Wait Lists.)

The Arts Art Calling all budding artists! Join us for a journey through time to explore a variety of art styles and the artists behind the masterpieces. An assortment of art mediums will be used - drawing, painting, and mixed media. Circus Come join the circus! Learn to walk a tight rope, juggle, and clown around. Campers will create colorful routines and entertain others. Dance* Join this kickin’ class that fuses all aspects of rhythm, dance, movement and fun. Campers will enjoy combinations from classical ballet, modern, tap, hip-hop, and funk. Hair must be worn up and off the neck; no jewelry, please; stud earrings acceptable. Appropriate dance wear required: tights and leotards or comfortable dance shorts/pants with a t-shirt (no baggy shirts), and dance shoes suitable for jazz or ballet. *Session B only Entertaining Explorers* Campers will be inspired in their creative process and achieve fine arts excellence. This experience will focus on the dramatic arts including acting, movement, and improv. * Explorers only. Session A only. Improv Theater This course will develop and enhance each camper’s unique theatrical ability. Listening skills and memory will be enhanced through improvisation techniques and games.
