EXECUTIVE MBA

“The Executive MBA at FIU gave me more than a masters degree, it taught me a new way to learn. The learning came at me from all directions: classmates, guest speakers, study groups, projects, travels and yes, definitely the professors. I used this knowledge to significantly accelerate my career and was promoted to Vice President while still in the program. The Executive MBA taught me the importance of becoming a lifelong learner. The MIB program attracted me because international business is not an ad-hoc component; the entire program is concentrated on international business.

One of the main reasons why I chose the MIB is the diversity of the student body. In our program 90 to 95 percent were people who came from all over the world.

The FIU MIB program is incredibly strong academically. Despite all of my business experience, I have learned many new methodologies and ideas that I can apply to the international business arena.

The fact that Miami is the gateway to Latin America opens the door for students to do internships or work for multinational companies.

“Of the three graduate programs I have attended, this is by far the best and the one where I feel I am getting a greater return on my investment in time and money. I had considered programs at other universities, but I believe that FIU’s finance program is more focused than the rest. The solid foundation in theory prepares us for developments in the field long after we complete the program, and there are enough real-world projects to give practical application to all that theory.”

I wish I can take all the credit for my achieve-ments myself, but had it not been for many excellent professors in the School of Account-ing, it would have been impossible. I got many wonderful opportuni-ties to improve upon my research and teaching abilities. The school has generously supported all the PhD students to attend academic conferences, both at the regional and national level. I'm really very thankful for all the help I received from my professors and program administrator and will wholeheartedly recommend you to think of FIU as your PhD school of preference."

Xiaoli YuanPhD School of Accounting, Summer 08

The objective of the PhD in Business Administration Program is to prepare you for a career in academia by building your understanding of the substantive domains and literature within your selected area of concentration. It provides you with the methodological and analytical tools required for executing research and creating knowledge. It develops your skills in formulating, conducting, and communicating quality research. In the process, it also fosters your ability to teach effectively.

The PhD program typically requires four years of full-time study: two to two-and a-half years of coursework and summer projects, and the rest in dissertation research. You will take a minimum of sixteen courses, with at least six of them in your chosen area of concentration. These courses may also include supervised independent study as well as special topics courses in your chosen or related area of specialization. Leading organizations recognize the value of Chapman graduates:

"Only when I was in the program did I realize how much the Chapman School’s Career Management Services staff had to offer me, not only in learning about myself and redefining my career objectives, but also in helping me revisit my long-term goals, revamp my resume, perfect my interviewing skills, and recognize how competitive the market is and how to shine in this environment. Most importantly, I learned to master the “art of network-ing” and to understand that the ones that progress in life are those who take the time to communicate with and build rapport with others."
