Driven by passion, Nautical Photographer Dave Hein has been shooting in the marine environment since his teen-age years on the shores of Lake Erie. Combining the love for the sea with his photographic curiosity, Dave began developing a unique perspective of nautical photography and the opportunity to capture the excitement, activity, in-volvement and emotion that is always present on the sea. This combination has driven Dave’s images to be hung on the walls of homes and office buildings around the world and have appeared in leading publications, providing the imagery that tells the story of the top regattas around the world.

Entering the Optimist sailing world as a photographer, Dave has brought this perspective to capture the excitement that sailors have for their sport, and the love they carry for their competition, the venues and the opportunity to get on the water at every opportunity.

Dave’s photographic work can be viewed online on his gallery at boatyardphoto.com. The pages of this interactive gallery are thousands of shots from recent regattas, still life, news assignments, portraits and other creative work that Dave is currently working on. Visiting the site gives you the ability to see all of the work free of charge.

The pages of this calendar are filled with select photos shot by Dave Hein at Opti regattas over the past year. While shooting at these events, Dave is continually amazed at the strong character, and physical ability of the sailors on the race course, continually confronting difficult situations on the water and conquering obstacles to sail their boat across the line to personal victory.

Every Optimist photograph Dave shoots is available for viewing online within the pages of Optisailing.com, where sailors and their fans regularly go to view new photos and vote for their favorite shots as they come to life on the Website. The top rated photos were selected for publication here. So, en-joy the photos you and your fellow sailors picked as the top OPTI Sailing photos of the year and keep voting on every photo for the upcoming season.
