Camp Philosophy

The Renaissance School is a truly international center of learning and culture, where each individual can develop his potential.

Our school provides an environment that is open, supportive and multidisciplinary, so each and every child can thrive. We

assemble a variety of camps in which children will have a chance to explore the world and their place in it through age-

appropriate activities.

The summer program consists of two components; the regular Montessori classroom activities in the

morning, followed by the Summer Camps in the afternoon.

This schedule is consistent with our philosophy that education is an ongoing process in which the child is

continuously learning and gaining knowledge from an enriching environment. This manner of uninterrupted

exposure enables the child to pursue his interests and maximize his own potential and development.

Staff

Our teachers work with children enrolled at our school year round, following Dr. Maria Montessori’s philosophy of love and

respect. Their primary goals for the children are fostering independence within the child, developing initiative, encouraging

the development of a creative mind, developing inner discipline and most importantly, fostering a love of learning.

Health & Safety

The safety of our campers is our utmost concern. First Aid and CPR-certified teachers are always on site.

We follow strict safety procedures and are ready to get emergency help if needed.

THE ART OF THE DECORATED EGG

Limited to 7 campers For children 8 years old or older

Instructor: Robin Bernstein

Many ancient cultures used a hot wax resist technique to decorate eggs for both holiday and ceremonial

celebrations. Eggs decorated with nature symbols have long been considered a “thank-you” for springtime –

and are both magical and beautiful. In this camp, campers will use traditional techniques, symbolism, and tools

of the Ukrainian people.

KNITTING ZOOLOGY

Limited to 8 campers

Instructor: Nancy Wentworth

We will create our own “zoo” of knitted creatures. Some will look just like the ones you would see in a zoo

and others will be part of a personal menagerie. We might even discover new species. If you know how to

cast on and off you are well on your way to your very own knitted zoo. Previous knitting experience is not

necessary.

THE SONG FLUTE

Limited to 8 campers

Instructor: Klári Kádas-Lappe

Do you want to learn to play an instrument in a week? Here is your chance. Song flutes are extremely easy to

leves, paprikás krumli, zöldség leves, túrós csusza and the all-time favorite, gulyás with beef, vegetables and lots

of paprika. Jutka will also introduce food decorating and proper presentation of the food. So, BYOS! (Bring

your own spoon.)

DRAMA IMPROVISATION

Limited to 12 campers

Instructor: Mimosa Andre

In this one week Drama Workshop, students will have the opportunity to bring all their favorite drama

activities and skills together. The focus will be on improvisational acting, by means of games, skits, and

PEACE THROUGH MARTIAL ARTS I

Limited to 10 campers

Instructor: Brandon WilliamsCraig

In this camp, students will be offered an Aikido-based developmental environment in which the children will

learn to practice peace together with their bodies and thoughts as though peace itself were a martial art. The

and beyond.

a day of preparation. Campers will learn about wilderness safety. They will review their belongings and gear

themselves up for an early departure on Tuesday. We will then spend the rest of the week camping and

immersing ourselves in the wilderness. The highlight of the trip will be an overnight backpacking expedition!

Required equipment: backpacking back pack, sleeping bag and possibly a Coast Guard approved life vest.

Warning! If you don’t like cakes, this camp is not for you. Only those with a serious sweet tooth need apply. Campers will bake and decorate their own cakes while learning the basic skills and tools and materials needed for icing, creating elaborate flowers and mixing colors. In addition, campers will learn and practice new vocabulary in Spanish because first of all this is a Spanish immersion camp. ¡Te esperamos! We will have our cake and eat it, too!

INTRODUCTION TO HEAT AND TEMPERATURE Limited to 8 campers

For students entering 4th grade and above

Instructor: Juan Antonio Valdes Spanish Language Immersion Camp

We will examine the relationship between heat and temperature by first learning to measure the temperature of a physical object and identifying some of the different objects that produce heat. Campers should be those who have a curiosity for the subject at hand, and relish the thought of recording their many experiments and findings each day in their journals.
