The remainder of the battalion conducted training on a schedUle which was

modified slightly due to continuing inclement weather.

11 Angust 1951: The battalion carried out the remainder of the training sch

edule of :Battalion Training Order 9-51, concluded by a pGrsonnel and weapons

inspection by Camp~ Commanders and concurrent inspection tour of the Bat

talion :Bivouac Area by the Battalion Co~~~~~~ander.

12 August 1951: Holiday routine was observed by the battalion and preparations

were made to continue training as set forth in Battalion Training Order No.

10-51. Regimental Frag Order 1211lbX:, received at 17oox:, directod that a

squad size motorized and foot patrol be dispatched by this battalion at Ob30K

13 August. Battalion Frag Order 121900X was issued to aseign this patrol to

"I" Company.

13 Aucyst 1951: A sqa.ad patrol departed the :Bivouac area at Oo30X, carrying

out the assigned ):6.tro1 route to the south and eaet by motor and foot, Mean

while the remainder of the Battalion commenced training as set forth in Bat

talion Training Order No. 10-51 at 0730X. The 1st Jlattalion, 1st !{a.rines con

ducted a field exercise which was visited by the Commander and S-3 of this Bat

talion as observers during the morning. The patrol returned to base at lo3SX:,

reporting no enemy or unusual civilian activity in that area.

14 Au.gust 1951: Training continued as scheduled on this warm and humid day.

15 .August 1951: Training continued as outlined in :Battalion Training Order No.

10-51.

1b Augu.st 1951: Training continued and during the afternoon the lla.ttalion Com

mander and :rart of his staff and supporting arms liaioon group made a brief

visual reconnaieance of the area over which the battalion would conduct a field

exercise on 17 Auguat. At 1500X Battalion Training Order No. 11-51 >Jas issued

covering trl!-ining schedules for tho week 20-25 August.

20 Aucy.st 1~51: Training commenced at 0]30X in compliance ~Ti th :Battalion Training order No. l ~51, including subjects as outlined in tho syilabus o:f Division Training Order No. 3-51. At llOOX Regimental Warning Order 2010ll21r was rocoived, initiating preparations for a Rogimontal training exercise to begin immediately, The battalion organized to be ready to move on 30 minutes notice in com~>lia.nce ~lith verOOJ. orders and lle.ttalion Warning Order 201215K, Re~ imental Operation Order No. 19-51, received at l4ooK outlined tho first phase of tho e:x:erciao, and Battalion Operation Order No. m.-51 was issued at lSOOK directing all units to prepare for and a:x:emtte training operations to tho east.

21 August 1951: The movement on foot to the inititial exorcise ausernnly area began at 0630K, this ~ttalion following the 1st Battalion at a diatru1co of 500 yds. Last elements arrived in this assembly area at 1300K and a porimotor defense wae set up for the night, Orders were received to continue the exercise the following day and in compliance Battalion Frag Order 212215K wan issued directing the attack on tho Regimental Objective to commence at 220315K.

22 Aueuot 1951: The problem attack commenced at OS15X during a 15 minute artillery preparation with 11 H11 and "G" Companies in tho assault and "I" Company in reserve. Tho battalion sector of tho regimental objective was attained at • 1515K, Orders wo,.o l'Oooived at 2000 to consolidate for tho night, and Bat-talion Frag Order 222100K was issued to that effect,

23 Au.:;uot 1951: At OS301C notice was received that the regiment would oxocuto a retrograde movement. This battalion ~~s ordered to withdraw, when roliovod by elements of tho lnt :Battalion, to a pass along tho J.!SR near tho llivouac Area. Hero the battalion woul.d occupy tho high ground flanking tho road ~rhilo tho romnindor of the rogimont pansod, and then further wlthdraw to tho Bivouac Area, This movement was executed and the :Battalion returned camp at 1g3ox, completing the rea;imental training exercise.
