The symposium papers published here provide ample evidence of this while serving as a reminder that much is yet to be done to enlarge our knowledge of the immunology of domestic animals. So much and so few. The success of this first truly international gathering in our field is derived as much from the reassurance that we can in fact be brought together in a coordinated effort as it is from the realization that our science is very much alive an well in the far flung corners of the globe. The manuscripts of this volume represent the scientific heart of the symposium but cannot convey the spirit of scientific and social exchange which flowed through discussions in poster sessions, workshops and during symposium social events. We hope that sufficient goodwill and scientific hunger was generated in Guelph to sustain a continuing series of International Veterinary Immunology Symposia and to generate around the series a solid international network to serve the purposes of veterinary immunology in many and diverse ways. We would also hope that the success of the 1st and subsequent symposia would bring support to the Veterinary Immunology Committee of the International Union of Immunological Societies for which the purpose of these gatherings strongly coincide with their objectives. In many ways the 1st International Veterinary Immunology Symposium validates the vision of international veterinary immunology which must have been prominent in the motivation of John Herbert in his efforts to establish the Veterinary Immunology Committee. The baton has been passed and we look forward to the 2nd International Veterinary Immunology Symposium to be held in Giessen, West Germany preceding the 78th International Congress of Immunology (Berlin). We have been sustained through the arduous tasks of editorship by the richness and variety of the intellectual foods presentation. We hope that you will share our feast to follow. JULY l-4. 1966, GUELPH, ONTARIO, CANAUA

As the symposium logo confirms veterinary immunology and veterinary

immunologists have a place at the heart of the discipline. The symposium

papers published here provide ample evidence of this while serving as a

reminder that much is yet to be done to enlarge our knowledge of the immunology

of domestic animals. So much and so few. The success of this first truly

international gathering in our field is derived as much from the reassurance

that we can in fact be brought together in a coordinated effort as it is from

the realization that our science is very much alive an well in the far flung

corners of the globe.

The manuscripts of this volume represent the scientific heart of the

symposium but cannot convey the spirit of scientific and social exchange which

flowed through discussions in poster sessions, workshops and during symposium

social events. We hope that sufficient goodwill and scientific hunger was

generated in Guelph to sustain a continuing series of International Veterinary

Immunology Symposia and to generate around the series a solid international

network to serve the purposes of veterinary immunology in many and diverse

ways. We would also hope that the success of the 1st and subsequent symposia

would bring support to the Veterinary Immunology Committee of the International

Union of Immunological Societies for which the purpose of these gatherings

strongly coincide with their objectives. In many ways the 1st International

Veterinary Immunology Symposium validates the vision of international

veterinary immunology which must have been prominent in the motivation of John

Herbert in his efforts to establish the Veterinary Immunology Committee. The

baton has been passed and we look forward to the 2nd International Veterinary

Immunology Symposium to be held in Giessen, West Germany preceding the 78th

International Congress of Immunology (Berlin).

We have been sustained through the arduous tasks of editorship by the

richness and variety of the intellectual foods

presentation. We hope that you will share our

feast to follow. Bon appetit!
