Summer Packet

Dear Parents,

We are looking forward to a great year in

First Grade! We have worked with the Montessori

Team to create a packet for incoming first

graders to keep their skills sharp over the

summer.

Our packet has two parts. The first part is

guided practice and the second part includes

family activities, games and reading list from Mrs.

Pilong! Please work on this over the summer and

return it to your first grade teacher at the

start of the school year.

Have a safe and happy summer break! Once

again, we are looking forward to seeing everyone in

August.

Incoming 1st-2nd grade Reading List

Dear Woods Families,

Summer is a great time for reading and The Woods, as always, is

encouraging students to read. The suggestions below are a list of books that your

first or second grader might enjoy. Most of the listed books are available in the

public library and/or local bookstores. In some cases, titles may be out of print, but

are worth seeking in libraries and through used-book sources. To better help

students become lifetime readers, establishing a reading habit at home is essential

every day. The most important thing is to read anything and everything!

A Special Note to Parents to Help with Establishing a Love of Reading:

-Create an inviting reading environment in your home.

-Model reading! Let your children see you enjoy reading.

-Read aloud! Read a book as a family, take turns reading, etc.

- Establish a reading time and routine.

-Visit your local library regularly.
