The Application Manual (AM) contains application descriptions, setting guidelinesand setting parameters sorted per function. The application manual should be used tofind out when and for what purpose a typical protection function could be used. Themanual should also be used when calculating settings.

    23Technical reference manual

  • The Technical Reference Manual (TRM) contains application and functionalitydescriptions and it lists function blocks, logic diagrams, input and output signals, setting parameters and technical data sorted per function. The technical referencemanual should be used as a technical reference during the engineering phase, installation and commissioning phase, and during normal service. The Installation and Commissioning Manual (ICM) contains instructions on how toinstall and commission the protection IED. The manual can also be used as a referenceduring periodic testing. The manual covers procedures for mechanical and electricalinstallation, energizing and checking of external circuitry, setting and configuration aswell as verifying settings and performing directional tests. The chapters are organizedin the chronological order (indicated by chapter/section numbers) in which theprotection IED should be installed and commissioned. The Operators Manual (OM) contains instructions on how to operate the protectionIED during normal service once it has been commissioned. The operators manual canbe used to find out how to handle disturbances or how to view calculated and measurednetwork data in order to determine the cause of a fault. The Engineering Manual (EM) contains instructions on how to engineer the IEDsusing the different tools in PCM600. The manual provides instructions on how to setup a PCM600 project and insert IEDs to the project structure. The manual alsorecommends a sequence for engineering of protection and control functions, LHMIfunctions as well as communication engineering for IEC 61850 and DNP3.

1.1.2 About the technical reference manualThe following chapters are included in the technical reference manual. Local HMI describes the control panel on the IED and explains display

characteristics, control keys and various local HMI features. Basic IED functions presents functions for all protection types that are included in

all IEDs, for example, time synchronization, self supervision with event list, testmode and other general functions.

Current protection describes functions, for example, over current protection, breaker failure protection and pole discordance.

Voltage protection describes functions for under voltage and over voltageprotection and residual over voltage protection.

Frequency protection describes functions for over frequency, under frequency andrate of change of frequency protection.

Multipurpose protection describes the general protection function for current andvoltage.

Control describes control functions, for example, synchronization and energizingcheck and other product specific functions.

Logic describes trip logic and related functions.

  • Monitoring describes measurement related functions that are used to provide dataregarding relevant quantities, events and faults, for example.

Metering describes pulse counter logic. Station communication describes Ethernet based communication in general,

including the use of IEC 61850 and horizontal communication via GOOSE. Remote communication describes binary and analog signal transfer, and the

associated hardware. Hardware describes the IED and its components. Connection diagrams provides terminal wiring diagrams and information

regarding connections to and from the IED. Inverse time characteristics describes and explains inverse time delay, inverse

time curves and their effects. Glossary is a list of terms, acronyms and abbreviations used in ABB technical

    documentation.

1.1.3 This manualThe description of each IED related function follows the same structure (whereapplicable). The different sections are outlined below.

1.1.3.1 IntroductionOutlines the implementation of a particular protection function.

1.1.3.2 Principle of operationDescribes how the function works, presents a general background to algorithms andmeasurement techniques. Logic diagrams are used to illustrate functionality.

Logic diagramsLogic diagrams describe the signal logic inside the function block and are bordered bydashed lines.

Signal namesInput and output logic signals consist of two groups of letters separated by two dashes. The first group consists of up to four letters and presents the abbreviated name for thecorresponding function. The second group presents the functionality of the particularsignal. According to this explanation, the meaning of the signal BLKTR in figure 4 isas follows: BLKTR informs the user that the signal will BLOCK the TRIP command from the

under-voltage function, when its value is a logical one (1).

  • Input signals are always on the left hand side, and output signals on the right hand side.Settings are not displayed.

Input and output signalsIn a logic diagram, input and output signal paths are shown as a lines that touch theouter border of the diagram.Input and output signals can be configured using the ACT tool. They can be connectedto the inputs and outputs of other functions and to binary inputs and outputs. Examplesof input signals are BLKTR, BLOCK and VTSU. Examples output signals are TRIP,START, STL1, STL2, STL3.
