INTRODUCTIONThis brochure is designed to provide you with complete informationon how to use the RTD Olympic Bus Service to reach most majorvenues of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
The service is provided by the Southern California Rapid TransitDistrict (RTD), the third largest transit system in the nation. RTDregularly operates a fleet of 2,200 buses to provide service throughout Los Angeles County and parts of four surrounding counties.
During the Olympics,July 28 -August 12,1984, the RTD will add550 buses and new bus routes to operate direct service to mostmajor venues. This will provide you with fast, convenient and reliableservice for travelling to Olympic sporting events. By riding RTD, youcan reach events in less time and avoid the problems and high costof parking at venues.
Most buses in the RTD Olympic fleet are of advance design,with air conditioning and accessible features for disabled riders.Whenever possible they will travel on street lanes especially designated as preferential for buses to provide quick and direct serviceto venue entrances.
All RTD Olympic bus lines are numbered in the 700 series,beginning with 710 and ending at 795. One-way fares are $2, $4, or$6, depending on the type of service and travel distance. RTDOlympic tokens, tickets or the RTD Olympic Service Gold Pass mustbe used to pay a fare. No cash will be accepted.
All RTD Olympic Service Buses can be easily identified by acolorful Olympic emblem mounted on the front and rear of eachbus. The emblem will display the official Star-in-Motion and the fiveinterlocking rings of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
TYPES OF OLYMPIC SERVICERTD will operate three types of bus service to Olympic venues. Thefollowing is a brief description of each type of service:
PARK/RIDEAdvance reservations requiredjJr guaranteed seating. RTD willoperate Park/Ride service from seven locations in the Los Angeles areato eight Olympic venues. This service operates non-stop from thePark/Ride site to the entrance of the venues. Each Park/Ride site hasparking available for automobiles. The service will be round tripbetween the Park/Ride lot and the Olympic venue.
EXPRESS SERVICERTD will operate round trip, non-stop express bus service to sixOlympic venues from a special RTD Olympic Bus'lerminal indowntown Los Angeles at 1st and Spring Sts.
SHUTTLE SERVICERTD will operate seven different round trip Olympic Bus Shuttles.Some shuttle lines will make stops along their routes, usually adistance of only a few miles.
ACCESSIBLE SERVICE
g RTD Accessible Buses provide automatic lift service topersons in wheelchairs. Persons in 'wheelchairs who wish touse an accessible bus for Olympic Park/Ride Service may
request one when making their advance reservations.Accessible buses also will be interspersed among the RTD fleet
operating on Olympic Shuttle and Express Service. Persons wishingto use accessible buses are asked to check with RTD Field Personnelat boarding sites for the next available accessible bus.
RTD OLYMPIC BUS FARESRTD Olympic bus fares are as follows:
Shuttle Service - $2 one wayExpress Service - $4 and $6 one wayPark/ Ride Service - $6 one way
Park/Ride service requires advance reservations for guaranteedseating. Fares are payable by RTD 1984 Olympic tokens, tickets or the$10 a day RTD Olympic Service Gold Pass. No cash fares will beaccepted.
RTD GOLD PASSThe RTD Olympic Service Gold Pass is available from Ticketronwhen making advance reservations for the Park/Ride Service. Itis priced at $IO-a-day, per person, and offers a savings of $2 on a$12 round trip fare.
[t is also available for purchase at all RTD Customer ServiceCenters, including the special RTD Olympic Center at First andSpring Sts., in downtown Los Angeles.
At $IO-a-day the RTD Gold Pass can be used all day to boardRTD Olympic Shuttle Service and Express Service, as well as anyRTD bus in regular service. It provides unlimited use on any RTDbus for one day. When purchased at an RTD office, the Pass can beused on Park/ Ride service on a standby basis only, since advancereservations are taken only by Ticketron.
RTD DOWNmWN OLYMPICCUSmMER SERVICE CENTEROn July 8, 1984, RTD opens its Downtown Olympic Customer ServiceCenter at the intersection of First and Spring Sts. Hours of operationbetween July 8-July 21 are 7 a.m. -7 p.m. seven days a week. FromJuly 22 -August 12, hours are from 5 a.m. -10 p.m. seven days a week.
RTD CUSmMER SERVICE CENTERSRTD operates 10 Customer Service Centers throughout Los AngelesCounty. Each office provides a full range of pass and ticket services,and offers free brochures, and direct line phone service to obtainRTD information. RTD Customer Service Centers, locations andhours of operation are Listed on back cover. On July 22 -August 12,office hours and days of operation will be extended.
PARK/RIDE RESERVATIONS ORDER FORMReservations will be offered on all RTD Olympic Park/Ride lines,but not on the other Olympic bus service. Persons with reservations will be guaranteed a seat on a bus during a specific20-minute period from the Park/Ride site. Reservations willnot be accepted on buses returning to the Park/Ride lots to allowpatrons more flexibility in departing. Bus service will continue
