THE ROYAL GOLF SILVER TROPHY founded in 1744 VICEVERSA Challenge Royal Golf Silver Trophy The history The Royal Golf Silver Trophy, one of the most ancient in the history of golf, was awarded to winners of tournaments held in Scotland at the start of the XVIII Century on courses unlike the true ones we know today. The trophy consisted of a silver golf club, upon whose shaft was set a silver ball bearing the name of that year's victor; the custom stemmed from the historic tradition of the city of Edinburgh which, every year, presented the Royal Company of Archers with a silver arrow as prize for their tournament. These tournaments customarily took place in locations chosen as nature dictated, places that to us may seem unusual and much more difficult, such as meadows in open country, country roads, even frozen lakes and rivers. The players aimed at set targets, wooden pickets, trees and holes of whatever kind. In the course of history, these tournaments have availed themselves of the rules of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews. II ° EDITION 2008 ® ® Royal Golf Silver Trophy, 1744 www.royalgolfsilvertrophy.com The cultural programme of the event features promotion of a book devoted to golf, comprising artwork by some of the most important modern and contemporary international artists who dedicate or have dedicated their reflection to this sport. Project: the PART 72 Project stems from the idea of creating a series of artistic volumes on the game of golf, published in limited edition, illustrated by modern and contemporary artists celebrated at world level, along with texts by international poets, writers and famous people of all epochs that deal with this sport. The volume is printed in various languages and in limited edition, and aims to be a milestone among Sport, Art and Culture a “must” among the volumes dedicated to sport throughout the world. The collection consists of eight volumes, each one published in a different format and illustrated by nine artists. The name of the collection derives from a combination of the word “ART” with the ideal number of strokes “PAR 72” to be played on a golf course in a complete round of 18 holes. Joining PAR72 and ART gives the name of the project, PART 72. The number of artists involved in the project (9 for each volume) totals 72. The volume, curated by Gianni Salvaterra with an introduction by Philippe Daverio, is printed in Limited Edition, numbered from 0 to 648. The Art of Golf - Brassie Each volume will bear the name of a golf club in the ancient Scottish language. The second edition will be issued. The title of Volume II is “Brassie” (which in XIX- century Scotland stood for the no. 2 iron). With three world stages and an all-Italian final in Europe, this new edition starts off with a hitherto unique challenge of an extremely audacious character, the “VICEVERSA Challenge”. The first stage to be held on the course of the exclusive Golf Club at Abu Dhabi (capital of the United Arab Emirates), the second at the exotic Golf Club of Miami Beach, Florida, and the third and last one in the enchanting setting of the Pevero Golf Club on the Costa Smeralda, north-eastern Sardinia’s “buen retiro”, pearl of the Italian coasts. The final will also take place at the Pevero Golf Club, but with an unusual formula called “VICEVERSA Challenge”. The finalists will play on the regular course, but in reverse: that’s to say, they will start from the flag at hole no.18 and go round VICEVERSA, ending up at the starting tee. It’s an unusual contest, even for the most expert players, summoning golfers from every part of the globe for the thrill of performing on one of the world’s most prestigious courses, in this unique, almost impossible way: in REVERSE. Three of the world’s most exclusive courses, a historic trophy; a fascinating ambience drawing thousands of people, for an event quite out of the common. An event of the highest prestige that underlines the importance of the sport-culture combination for purposes of solidarity. Charity & Golf to benefit “To fight against Muscular Dystrophy” Viceversa Challenge, a bold contest Abu Dhabi, Miami Beach, Porto Cervo: the prestigious Scottish tournament comes to three continents. Brassie: the second volume dedicated to the Art of Golf The Art of Golf The Silver Trophy designed by the architect designer Tobia Scarpa (the current trophy in 925 silver) has been called “Magis”. The Latin adverb “magis” means “more”; it denotes the effort at improvement, the challenge to overcome increasing obstacles, it represents the dynamic quest for perfection in a continual process of becoming. “Magis” can therefore be assumed as a lifestyle and a fitting motto for the golfing spirit that aims, through physical and mental discipline, to attain ever greater results. A silver trophy devised for playing, that succeeds, even in the field of sports equipment, in combining certain values proper to the noble metal, such as elegance and exclusive- ness and luxury, in a positive significance. From the argyros of the Greeks to argentum, from the mediaeval ariento to silver: the history of the making of objects with the shining noble metal has been revived, as from 1970, by San Lorenzo, which resumes the technical traditions in an innovative spirit and introduces an unusual way of conceiving silver: that of the architect- designers who are summoned to imagine things of silver, seconding the nature of the material while revoking the formal conventions. Royal Golf Silver Trophy, today The organizers of the ROYAL GOLF SILVER TROPHY – VICEVERSA Challenge care about initiatives with charitable aim. The media coverage ongoing during the days of the event will enable a series of moments of reflection on clinical and scientific medical research. The objective is to collect funds to benefit the Fondazione Legato Dino Ferrari, Sezione “Enzo e Dino Ferrari” of Modena, which for the past twenty- five years has been engaged in supporting research into the treatment of Muscular Dystrophy. The “Enzo e Dino Ferrari” section of the Italian Union for Research into Muscular Dystrophy (U.I.L.D.M), founded by Enzo Ferrari and by initiative of patients and their families, officially commenced activity in Modena in 1981 and thereafter became a point of reference for the fight against Muscular Dystrophy and for the social integration of the disabled. Thanks to support from the Fondazione Legato Dino Ferrari, to the solidarity and contributions from individual and collective elements, both public and private, it now stands as a real point of reference for many persons, whether dystrophic or not. The Fondazione Legato Dino Ferrari was originally set up by Enzo Ferrari in memory of his son Dino who died in 1956 of a serious form of muscular dystrophy. As a charitable body, its aim is to promote research into the diagnosis and genetics of muscular dystrophy and to support initiatives for assistance to persons suffering from this disease.

ABU DHABI or Abu Zaby (in Arabic stands for “Father of the Gazelle”)is the capital of the United Arab Emirates, with more than 4 millioninhabitants. The city stands on a T-shaped island in the Persian Gulf andcounts as the world’s wealthiest. By the 2015 the city will became a centresof culture of worldwide importance, including: the Guggenheim Museumdesigned by Frank O. Gehry, the Louvre by architect Jean Nouvel, theMarine Museum by Tadao Ando, and the Opera House by Iraqi architectZaha Hadid.

ABU DHABI GOLF CLUB is an oasis of tranquillity carved out of the desertsand in 1992. The imposing Club House, built in the shape of a falcon withoutspread wings, overlooks the course on all sides and gives full view of theall spectacular eighteen holes. Described as “Super Course” by the leadingspecialist periodicals in the golf world, with its 162 hectare area, the AbuDhabi Golf Club is considered to be one of the finest 27-hole courses in theMiddle East. Designed by architect Peter Harradine, former president ofthe European Institute of Golf Course Architects, the course plays annualhost to one of the most awaited contests: the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, watched by over 23,000 spectators from every corner of the globe.

MIAMI, a Native American term(tribe of the Mayaimi) signifyingfresh water (the city is surroundedby lakes and marshes), was foundedin 1896 and is the leading city inFlorida, in the south of the UnitedStates of America. The importanceof the region as an internationalfinancial and cultural centre hasraised Miami to the status of WorldCity. Since it’s a hub of cultural and

linguistic ties between NorthAmerica, South America and theCaribbean, it’s also called “thecapital of the Americas”. WithinDade County, on the island thatfaces onto the Atlantic Ocean, standsthe city of MIAMI BEACH. Foundedin 1915, it has become the touristcity linked with luxury (the Art DecoHistoric District of South Beach hasbeen listed on the National Registerof Historic Places, and with itsnightspots and hotels is consideredamong the most glamorous placeson the planet), centre of the luxuryfashion of the US south, and takesits place among the most covetedspots on earth.

MIAMI BEACH GOLF CLUB (thehistoric name was originallyBayshore Golf Club) was foundedin 1923 by Carl Fisher, an American

entrepreneur. Situated on the SouthBeach island nestled between theshores of the Atlantic and BiscayneBay, it has been the scene of variousevents in American history: duringWorld War II, it was turned into abase camp for military trainingexercises; in 1944 it risked becomingthe site for a new residential areaand was at the centre of an animatedlegal wrangle; in 1954 a new Club

House was built; and in 2002 theentire course was restructured andthe present Club House went up. Thecourse, designed at the beginning ofthe century by architect Arthur Hills(one of America’s most importantgolf course designers) is still very up-to-date and blends in perfectly amongtropical palms and mangroves withthe interior of the city of MiamiBeach.

P O R T O C E R V Olocated in north-eas tern Sard in ia(better known asGallura) is the maincentre on the CostaSmeralda. It was setup back to the 1960swhen Prince KarimAga Khan IV (Imam ofthe Ismaili Muslims)yielded to the beautyof this stretch of theItalian coast andacquired the area.Together with someleading architects ofthe time (includingLuigi Vietti, MicheleBusiri Vici, Jacques

and Savin Couelle) hedecided to createt h e p a r a d i s e o finternational l i tetourism that has nowbecome renownedworldwide.The place is a summerk i n g d o m o f t h efashionable Italian andinternational set,elegant and refined,with discrete and well-blended architecture.It figures as a cinemaset where shapes,lighting and colourscombine to reproducean idealized Med.village that melts

S i t u a t e dbetween the bay of theexclusive Cala di Volpehotel and the Gulf ofPevero, the course isappreciated not onlyfor its beauty but alsofor i t s technica lquality; and over the

years it has kept itsreputation as one ofthe most insidious inthe world. Trent Joneshad no need to insertartificial obstacles, hefound them all thereon the spot: wind, woodland areas, rockyformations: a testingcourse even for themost expert player. The Club House, infull harmony with themagnificent naturalsetting, was designedby architect RiccardoBonicatti.
