15: 11-32
Jesus told a parable about God’s love.
In the parable there was a farmer who had two sons.
The youngest son was fed up of working on the farm. He wanted to travel and have fun.
The youngest son asked his father for his share of the family money so that he could fulfil his dreams.
The farmer gave money to his youngest son. His son could not wait to set off and see
the world.
His family, however, were sad to see him
leave.
At first the son had great fun, spending the money and enjoying himself. He bought expensive clothes
and ate the best food.
But the money ran out!
The farmer’s son was poor and needed to get a job.
A pig farmer gave him some work looking after his pigs. The son hated the work and wanted to go back home. He was worried his father would be angry with
him, but was going to tell him he was sorry.
The farmer’s son didn’t need to worry. His father was so pleased he had returned
home safely!
The son asked for his father’s forgiveness. That night the farmer
had a big party to celebrate his son’s return.
Jesus explained that God is like the farmer – he is full of love and
joy when people come back to him.
