Mark would begin the shortest of all the “gospels” with a declaration of the “beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ” and would end his record with Christ’s command to “preach the gospel to every creature.” This was the message so many waited to hear, yet when it was declared, many rejected these precious words, and the One who would live them and speak them (Mark 12:10). It may be that you encounter a person whose life is filled with conflict, stress, and dissonance. They are in need of the “gospel of peace” (Romans 10:15). For theirs is a life fought on the terms of the world, unable to handle adversity and challenges. But with the peace of Jesus, given unlike that of the world, they find calm in the midst of chaos (John 14:27). Perhaps a loved one needs to make their life right with God. Friend, share with them bravely and confidently the “gospel of your salvation” (Ephesians 1:13), and if they are sincere, they will obey. Discouragement will come in any aspect of life. But our God certainly does not want us to be discouraged when it comes to His good news of grace poured out on a lost world. The gospel should be anything but discouraging to us. If you should pass from this life, leaving behind your family and friends on this side of eternity, please have no fear. On this side of eternity we have the “everlasting gospel” to touch lost souls and bring them into fellowship with God. By faith I know, should my service to my Master end today, my precious wife and our beloved children will be kept by the “hope of the gospel” (Col 1:23). Though my life should end, the “everlasting gospel” remains to point to God’s grace, His Son’s blood and resurrection. I hope you know this for you, for those you love, and for all who need the eternity promised by our Lord.

“I Hope You Know”

As it was in the beginning of the days of Jesus,

anticipation was on the hearts and minds of faithful Jews. Those who had followed by faith the commands of God

longed for the coming of the Messiah, and the “good news” of His kingdom, church, and salvation. Luke

records the faithfulness of Simeon and Anna, as they

waited for the announcement of the “Consolation” and “redemption” (Luke 2:25, 38).

The news of redemption, salvation, and justification were

to be pronounced as gospel, good news, throughout the world. Mark would begin the shortest of all the “gospels”

with a declaration of the “beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ” and would end his record with Christ’s

command to “preach the gospel to every creature.” This was the message so many waited to hear, yet when it

was declared, many rejected these precious words, and

the One who would live them and speak them (Mark 12:10).

We read of great sorrow and heartache in the lives of

people, yet theirs is a hurt which can be comforted if only they would accept God’s balm. As you read this article,

somewhere there is a searching soul looking for a place of acceptance in a world of rejection. Little do they know

their place is in the “gospel of the kingdom” (Matthew

4:23), where Jesus said all those who have been broken by the world’s empty promises, will find a place of

belonging (Matt 5:3). It may be that you encounter a person whose life is filled with conflict, stress, and

dissonance. They are in need of the “gospel of peace” (Romans 10:15). For theirs is a life fought on the

terms of the world, unable to handle adversity and

challenges. But with the peace of Jesus, given unlike that

of the world, they find calm in the midst of

chaos (John 14:27). Perhaps a loved one needs to make their life right with God. Friend,

share with them bravely and confidently the “gospel of your salvation” (Ephesians 1:13),

and if they are sincere, they will obey.

Discouragement will come in any aspect of life. But our God certainly does not want us to be

discouraged when it comes to His good news

of grace poured out on a lost world. The gospel should be anything but discouraging to

us. If you should pass from this life, leaving behind your family and friends on this side of

eternity, please have no fear. On this side of eternity we have the “everlasting gospel” to

touch lost souls and bring them into fellowship

with God. By faith I know, should my service to my Master end today, my precious wife and

our beloved children will be kept by the “hope of the gospel” (Col 1:23). Though my life

should end, the “everlasting gospel” remains

to point to God’s grace, His Son’s blood and resurrection. I hope you know this for you, for

those you love, and for all who need the eternity promised by our Lord.

ANOTHER BIG TURNOUT for the Lighthouse. We had wall to wall Junior & Senior High to be together before last Wednesday’s Mid Week Bible Study. Thank you to Misty for taking care of the night, especially in my absence. THE JUNIOR HIGH RETREAT WAS FANTASTIC! What an unforgettable weekend with the Junior High at Nathan Bedford State Park. We enjoyed some great devos, playing in the snow, lots of indoor games and even fun at Sky High Trampoline Park. Our theme was #Selfieish as we looked at different characters and how they represented “self.” Moses was self-reliant, Peter lacked self-esteem, Jonah needed self motivation and Paul told us how to be self-less. The basis of our theme came from 2 Corinthians 4:7 as we were encouraged to be “of God not of us.” The weekend would not have been without the help of Jonathan & Misty Aydelott, Brett & Heather Martin and Misty Shelton for their cooking, cleaning, supporting, and involvement in everything we did. May we not leave the memories and challenges from the retreat in Camden, but may we be changed to look at our “self” in a whole different way. ALWAYS AN ANTICIPATED NIGHT FOR MANY… Thanks to Matthew & Cissy Dotson and Derek & Rachel Newsom for their leading our Monthly Bible Studies. A wonderful opportunity for those wanting to be able to dig deeper and study more the chance to do so.

WE HAVE NOW WRAPPED UP both Junior High & Senior High Retreats… Be sure you are placing into action the things we challenged ourselves with. To seek ways to be “rooted” in God’s Word and His ways. To view “#Selfieish” as a way to have confidence in yourself but most importantly in our Lord. Stay focused on those things. Show up, Stand up, Speak up and always.. follow His path, -Craig
