    This game features two of the three top kickoff returners

    in the NFL, Jets KR Brad Smith (31.4 avg.) and DET

    KR Steffan Logan (29.5 avg.). Smith leads the AFC andranks second in the NFL. Logan ranks second in the NFC

    and third in the NFL. DET kickoff coverage units ranks

    sixth in the NFL (20.8 avg.) and the Jets stand 10th

    (21.6 avg.).

    Sundays game marks the first meeting between second-

    year signal callers, Jets QB Mark Sanchez and Lions QB

    Matthew Stafford. The first two quarterbacks selected

    in the 2009 NFL Draft, Stafford was chosen first overall

    and Sanchez was tabbed fifth.

    The Jets boast the third-best rushing attack in the NFL,

    averaging 153.4 yards a game, and have recorded nine

    consecutive 100-yard rushing performances dating back

    to their contest at IND (12/27/10). The only NFL team

    with a longer current streak is Kansas City (11).

    The 15.7 points a game allowed by the Jets defense

    ranks second in the NFL, less than a full point higher

    than the 14.8 points a game the unit allowed in 2009

    when the team led the NFL in total defense. Currently

    the unit ranks seventh in yards allowed (307.3).

    Quarterbacks (3), Returning Starter (1), Coach Matt Ca-vanaugh:On the season, Mark Sanchez has registered a 78.8 pass-er rating, connecting on 114-of-215 passes for 1,356yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions. He is the

    youngest passer in NFL history to throw eight touchdownpasses without an interception, after going interceptionfree for the first five games of the season. Veteran MarkBrunell signed with the Jets as a free agent on 7/28/10to serve as the backup for Sanchez. Coming off a Su-per Bowl victory with NO last season, the three-time ProBowler enters his 18th season in the NFL and has thrownfor 31,928 yards and 182 touchdowns and rushed for2,421 yards and 15 touchdowns during his career. Edwards leads Jetsreceivers with a 17.0 yard per reception average and issecond on the team with 375 yards and four touchdowns,with three of his four touchdowns on passes of 30 yardsor more. Cotchery, who has led the team in receiving the

    previous three seasons, has recorded 24 receptions for243 yards. Smith has caught one pass for 11 yards andhas rushed for 113 yards on 16 carries. He threw the firsttouchdown pass of his career at BUF (10/3), a three-yardtoss to TE Dustin Keller. Smith has scored his six-career

    touchdowns in five different ways (pass, reception (2),rushing, kickoff return and blocked punt return). He alsokeys the Jets Seminole attack. Holmes has 10 catches for131 yards for the season.

    Tight Ends (4), Returning Starter (1), Coach Mike Dev-lin:Third-year man Dustin Keller leads all Jets receivers with26 catches, 388 yards and five touchdowns. Ben Hart-sock serves as the second tight end. Matthew Mulliganserves as the third-string tight end and has seen action inall four games, making a start in the season opener vs.BLT (9/13). Undrafted free agentJeff Cumberland made

    the roster as the fourth tight end, but has not seen anyaction during the regular season.

    Offensive Line (8), Returning Starters (4), Coach BillCallahan:Four of the five starters return for an offensive line thathelped the Jets lead the NFL in rushing a year ago with2,756 yards. LT DBrickashaw Ferguson has started71 consecutive regular-season games at left tackle andearned his first Pro Bowl appearence in 2009. Second-year man LG Matt Slauson earned the starting job afteran impressive offseason and has started every game thisseason.     OVERVIEW BY POSITION

    Defensive Line (7), Returning Starters (2), Coach MarkCarrier:Lost Pro Bowl NT Kris Jenkins in the season opener, buthas still held opposing rushing attacks to 3.5 yards percarry, which is good for fourth-best in the NFL. This group

    is led by two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Shaun Ellis,whose 71.5 career sacks as a Jet ranks third all-time inteam history. On the season, Ellis has recorded 3.5 sacks,14 tackles and one forced fumble. Mike DeVito has earnedfour starts following the loss of Jenkins and leads all Jetsdefensive linemen with 20 tackles. Sione Pouha hasstarted all seven games (six at NT and one at DT), movingover the center to replace the injured Jenkins and has re-corded 17 tackles and has recovered two fumbles and onesack. Versatile defensive lineman Vernon Gholston earnssnaps on the line and at linebacker and has seen actionin all seven of the Jets games this season. Trevor Prycesigned with the Jets on 9/29/10 after being released byBLT and is expected to help the interior pass rush, he hasrecorded eight quarterback hits in three games. Providingdepth on the defensive line is Matt Kroul, who spent the2009 season on the practice squad. Marcus Dixon wasawarded to the Jets off of waivers on 9/5/10 and has beeninactive for all seven games this season.

    Linebackers (8), Returning Starters (4), Coach Bob Sut-ton and Jeff WeeksLed by inside linebackers David Harris and Bart Scott,this unit features the NFL active sack leaderJason Taylor,versatile linebacker Bryan Thomas and 2009 Jets lead-ing sacker Calvin Pace. Harris leads the team with 58

    tackles, a sack and has two passes defended, while Scottis third on the club with 44 tackles, one forced fumbleand one pass defended. Thomas continues to do every-thing asked of him recording 25 tackles, one sack, onepass defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recov-ery. Taylor has added three sacks this season to bring hiscareer total to 130.5, the most by any active player in theNFL. Lance Laury provides depth inside while second-year manJamaal Westerman earns snaps inside, outsideand on the defensive line in passing situations. Both re-serves have key roles on special teams. First-year LBJoshMauga joined the active roster from the practice squad on(10/25) and earned his first NFL action vs. GB (11/31).

    Defensive Backs (10), Returning Starters (2), CoachDennis Thurman and Jim ONeilGroup is directed by six-year player Jim Leonhard andAll-Pro Darrelle Revis. They welcome three new play-ers, Brodney Pool, who has started four games andhas recorded 21 tackles and an interception, AntonioCromartie, who leads the team with two interceptions,and rookie first-round selection Kyle Wilson, who earnedstarts in the first three weeks of the season. Fifth-yearveteran, Drew Coleman, began training camp as the sixthcorner on the depth chart, but has played his way intothe rotation, earning a start at BUF (10/3) and at DEN

    (10/17). For the season he has 15 tackles, three passesdefensed, 1 sack, 1 FF and recorded the second interception of his career when he sealed the Jets second victoryin Week Three at Miami. Eric Smith, who started threegames while Pool was limited, rounds out the secondary

    with young-veterans Marquice Cole,James Ihedigbo andDwight Lowery. All three players serve significant roles onspecial teams. Lowery clinched the Jets Week Five andSix wins, returning an interception for a touchdown withunder 2:00 to play against MIN (10/11) and recovering afumble at DEN (10/17) on the Broncos final play.

    Specialists (3), Returning Starter (1), Coach MikeWesthoff and Ben Kotwica

    The only player to return in this group is punter SteveWeatherford, who joined the Jets before opening week in2009. Through seven games, he has placed 14 of his 37punts inside the opponents 20-yard line while register-

    ing a 40.5-yard net average. His average is tied for third-best in the AFC. The Jets welcomed a former Pro Bowkicker, Nick Folk, this offseason. Folk set a Jets recordwhen he connected on a 56-yard field goal attempt atDEN (10/14). For the season, Folk has conected on 13-of-16 field goal attempts. For the first time since 2001the Jets long snapping duties are not being handled byJames Dearth. This season, first-year player Tanner Purdum has assumed the role.

    RB LaDAINIAN TOMLINSON

    In two career games against the Lions, Tomlinson has postedtwo 100-yard efforts, one rushing and another receiving.

    In his first contest against Detroit on 12/7/03, he collectednine receptions for a career-high 148 yards receiving andtwo touchdowns, one coming on a 73-yard reception. In hissecond contest against the Lions on 12/16/07, he racked up116 yards on just 15 carries (7.7 avg.), scoring another twotouchdowns.

    Against the Lions for his career, Tomlinson has gained 204yards on 40 carries (5.1 avg.) with two touchdowns rushing,adding 11 receptions for 155 yards and another two scoresin the passing game.

    Although away from the football field, Jets players were busy this offseason. From charity events to visits to award showsmembers of the team traveled throughout the country.

    MAY:

    Dustin Keller was honored at the United Ways Gridiron Gala at the The Waldorf=AstoriaHotel, for his work with the Jets SchoolFood Program that promotes healthy eating inNew York City.Its huge. Its as great an honor as Ive ever received or ever will receive, he said at theUnited Ways 17th annual Gridiron Gala. For an organization that does as much as the

    United Way does, its huge for me and it means a lot.

    Braylon Edwards hosted the Braylon Edwards Foundation Advance 100 Awards Banquet in Cleveland, OH.The Braylon Edwards Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing and meeting the needs of under-served youth in the concentrated area of education. BEFs goal is to emphasize the importance of education by providingscholarships and incentives to youth who demonstrate strong commitment and effort to excelling in academics, citizenshipand community volunteerism.

    Calvin Pace filmed a public-service announcement for DKMS, a group that re-cruits bone-marrow donors for leukemia patients. In his PSA, Pace urges people,especially minorities, to register. Minorities are under-represented in the nationalregistry, according to DKMS.Each year, more than 140,000 people are diagnosed with a blood cancer, suchas leukemia or lymphoma. Less than 30% of patients can find a match in theirown family; the other 70% must search for an unrelated donor. According to theNMDP, 55% of Hispanics or Latinos in need of a life-saving transplant do notreceive one and 83% of African Americans in need of a transplant to not receiveone.

    Jerricho Cotchery preformed with the 12 Angry Mascots Scott Rogowsky at the Gotham Comedy Club in New York, NY.

    LaDainian Tomlinsongranted the wish of nine-year old LaJerrick Keyes throughthe Make-A-Wish foundation. Keyes, who suffers from congenital heart diseasetraveled to New Jersey, where he spent the day with Tomlinson and the Jets atthe teams training facility. The day began with LaJerrick being escorted to hisown personal locker, where he met Tomlinson. He then watched and partici-pated in the team practice with head coach Rex Ryan, got autographs from theplayers, played catch on the field with Tomlinson and even played video gameswith LT in the lounge.

    JUNE:Mark Sanchez presented an award to Memphis at the 64th annual TonyAwards at Radio City Music Hall.

    Mark Sanchez and DBrickashaw Ferguson attended the State Dinnerat the White House to honor Mexican president Felipe Calderon and hiswife, Margarita Zavala.

    THIS SEASON...

    On Tuesday, October 26, Dustin Keller visited Brooklyn Technical High School to helpthe New City Department of Education and the New York Jets announce the School-Food Pro Bowl Sweepstakes. The sweepstakes encourages parents to submit the schoolmeals applications that determines if they qualify for free and reduced-priced lunch fortheir children. The winning family will receive a trip for two to the NFL Pro Bowl inHawaii in 2011. Beginning in 2004, the Jets partnered with the New York City Depart-ment of Educations SchoolFood program in an effort to encourage all students to eathealthy and take advantage of the nutritious meals that are served throughout schools.

    On Tuesday, November 2, Matt Slauson, Shonn Greene, Jamaal Westerman, Joe McKnight, Rob Turner, and Matt Kroulunloaded and delivered two Satalight Learning Stations, one SMART Board and four Lasso Sound Systems to P.G. Cham-bers School in Cedar Knolls, NJ. The equipment was donated by the Jets, Teq and Front Row and is designed to improvethe learning environment for students with disabilities.

    On Monday, November 1, Santonio Holmes partnered with former teammate DavidClowney to host Bowling with the New York Jets. The event included dinner, a silentauction and two-hours of bowling with Jets players at Jersey Lanes in Linden, NJ.Proceeds from the event benefited Holmes III & Long Foundation, whose mission isto help in the research and finding a cure for Sickle Cell Disease along with assistingfamilies that have been affected by SCD, and the David Clowney Foundation.

    On Monday, November 1, several Jets players showed their style at a SaksFifth Avenue Fashion Show. DBrickashaw Ferguson, Vernon Gholston,Kris Jenkins, James Ihedigbo, Jim Leonhard, Calvin Pace, Tony Richard-son, Mark Sanchez and Brad Smith all walked the runway. Ten percent ofthe evenings sales benefitted the New York Jets Foundation.

    Like most sons, Rex Ryan always knew he wanted to be inthe family business. For the Ryans, the family business isstifling defense. In 1985, his father, Buddy Ryan, led what

    is widely considered to be the best defense in NFL history.Known simply as the 85 Bears, Buddys unit allowed 12.6points a game. For the season, they allowed 20 touchdowns(9 rushing, 10 passing and 1 on a return).

    Rex has been a part of some of the NFLs best defenseshimself. In 2000, he served as the defensive line coach fora Baltimore Ravens team that allowed an NFLs best 10.3points a game. In 16 games, the 2000 Ravens allowed 18touchdowns (5 rushing, 11 passing and 2 on returns). Asa defensive coordinator in 2006, Rex matched his fathers1985 feat allowing 12.6 points a game with the Ravens.Rexs 2006 team led the NFL in 11 categories: yards pergame (264.1), yards per play (4.51), rushing yard per game(75.9), rushing yards per play (3.31), interception rate(5.5%), sacks per pass attempt (11.79%), first downs pergame (14.8), third-down conversions allowed (28.9%), redzone pct. (33.3%) and points allowed a game (12.6).

    In 2009, Rex returned the family business to the Jets, wherehis father earned his first NFL job. Rex took a defense thatranked 10th in scoring for the 2008 season to the top of theNFL rankings in seven catergories: yards per game (252.3),yards per play (4.24), passing yards a game (153.7), pass-ing yards per play (4.91), first downs allowed (14.8), third-down conversions allowed (31.5%) and points allowed(14.8).
