10 things I’ve learnt about social media?

Page 2: 10 Things I learnt about social media

1. That it is seamless…

You can do / say anything, anytime, anywhere, anyhow…

(as long as there is an internet connection)

Using one or two integrated platforms.

Page 3: 10 Things I learnt about social media

2. Many people don’t understand it…

Page 4: 10 Things I learnt about social media

3. It is also easily misunderstood…

4. People attend courses about social

media…

because no one has figured out how

it really works.

(Probably it’s the same reason why

people haven’t figured out human

behaviour)

5. It keeps PR folks and their

management on their toes…

Unless they decide to shut out social

media altogether*.

*Understandable, but perhaps futile?

6. One decade ago, we had the

mIRC and ICQ…

Both have somewhat died.

Today Facebook, Twitter and Blogs

are the rage.

No one knows what tomorrow holds.

(All I know is: My face is booked.)

7. It’s all about common sense.

It’s the same with all tools:

You don’t use a fork to drink soup.

You don’t tell people to shut up and

sit down (or rather, you can’t now).

8. It’s all about looking for the right

opportunity.

Page 10: 10 Things I learnt about social media

9. It’s all about seizing it and milking

it for all its worth.

Using the right platform

With the right feature(s)

To reach the right audience

Wait… sounds like “traditional”

media, isn’t it?

10. It’s all about answering the same

question

your boss,

your audience,

your stakeholders,

your customers, and

your average “Joe”

poses,

“What’s in it for me?”
