10 Simple Ways To Save Water
Leaking taps waste 90 litres of water per week (4,680 litres per year!).
Consider changing to an Aerated TapThese mix water with air to reduce the output,
BUT will not compromise the pressure
1. Fix The Leaky Tap!
The average tap uses 6 litres of water per minute
Leaving your tap on whilst brushing your teeth could waste 24 litres per day!
Only turn your tap on to wet your brush & rinse.
2.NEVER leave the tap on!
These give you 2 types of flushes: a 3 litre flush for liquid waste and a 6 litre flush for solid waste.
A family of four will flush the toilet approximately 14 times per day A dual flush toilet could reduce the amount of water used by half.
3. Buy a Dual Flush Toilet
Don’t be tempted to use your toilet to dispose of tissues and creepy crawlies - This is just unnecessary.
25% of water used in the bathroom comes from flushing the toilet.
4.Remember: Your Toilet Is Not A Bin!
Baths use about 40% more water than showers.
To really cut back on water, consider a water saving shower head.
5. Ditch The Bath, Have A Shower!
Electric shower will ALWAYS have hot water.
So you won’t waste any water waiting for it to heat up.
6. Choose an Electric Shower
The less water you use, the more money you will save.
Probably the simplest way to save money is to reduce the time you spend in the shower.
7. Time Your Shower!
Water can be used for more than 1 thing!
While you wait for your shower to heat up, collect the water by placing a bucket below the showerhead.
You can then use this to water the plants.
8. Always Collect Shower Water
If you must use a bath, then chose one made from acrylic.
This is a great insulator which will hold the water’s temperature for longer.
You won’t have to top it up as frequently to maintain a warm temperature.
9. Consider the Material of Your Bath:
Is a flush required each time you go to the toilet?
Cameron Diaz is a fan of this method, so is it really that gross? I’ll leave you to ponder over that one.
10. “If It’s Yellow, Let It Mellow. If It’s Brown, Flush It Down."
