some foods that are considered good for people can be very dangerous for
pets.
After all, there’s nothing worse than having your dog suffer from a simple
mistake in a diet. while they’re still man’s best friend, they probably
shouldn’t eat like your best friend. because we care about you and your
canine companions, here are 10 foods that your dog should most definitely
avoid.
10 Avocado
Avocado is primarily a problem for birds, rabbits, donkeys, horses, and
ruminants including sheep and goats, Avocados can have toxic effects on
dogs depending on the variety. They can cause upset stomachs in dogs,
breathing difficulties, fluid buildup in the chest, but the most dangerous
thing for them seem to the be the pit. Since it’s slippery, the pit can
accidentally be swallowed by dogs, leading to obstruction of the
gastrointestinal tract.
9 Onions and Garlic
Keep onions and garlic far away from your dog These vegetables and
herbs can destroy a dog’s red blood cells, leading to anemia. That can
happen even with the onion powder found in some baby food. An
occasional small dose is probably OK. But eating a large quantity just once
or eating smaller amounts regularly can cause poisoning.
8 Alcohol
Alcoholic beverages and food products containing alcohol can cause
vomiting, diarrhea, decreased coordination, central nervous system
depression, difficulty breathing, tremors, abnormal blood acidity, coma and
even death.
7 Grapes and Raisins
Grapes and raisins can cause rapid kidney failure. While it varies between
dogs, symptoms may not show up in them. Other than kidney failure, dogs
can also develop vomiting or diarrhea as well as a lethargic state. Dogs will
also develop dehydration and lack of appetite. Death from kidney failure
may occur within three to four days.
6 Chocolate
Most people know that chocolate is bad for dogs. The toxic part is
theobromine. It’s in all kinds of chocolate, even white. The most dangerous
kinds, though, are dark chocolate, chocolate mulch, and unsweetened
baking chocolate. Eating it, even just licking the icing bowl, can cause a
dog to vomit, have diarrhea, and be excessively thirsty. It can also cause
abnormal heart rhythm, tremors, seizures, and death.
5 Raw Eggs
There are two problems with giving your dog raw eggs. The first is the
possibility of food poisoning from bacteria like Salmonella or E. coli. The
second is that an enzyme in raw eggs interferes with the absorption of a
particular B vitamin. This can cause skin problems as well as problems with
your dog’s coat if she’s been eating them for a long time.
4 Your Medicine
Reaction to a drug prescribed for humans is the most common cause of
poisoning in dogs. Just as you would do for your children, keep all
medicines out of your dog’s reach. And, never give your dog any over-the-
counter medicine unless your vet tells you to. Ingredients such as
acetaminophen or ibuprofen are often in pain relievers and cold medicine.
And they can be deadly for your dog.
3 Macadamia Nuts
Dogs will develop weakness and an inability to walk, specifically in their
hind legs. Vomiting, staggering gait, depression, tremors and hypothermia.
2 Fat Trimmings and Bones
Table scraps often contain meat fat that a human didn’t eat as well as
bones. Both are dangerous for dogs. Fat trimmed from meat, both cooked
and uncooked, can cause pancreatitis. And, although it seems natural to
give a dog a bone, he can choke on it. Bones can also splinter and cause
an obstruction or lacerations of your dog’s digestive system. It’s best to just
forget about the doggie bag.
1 Yeast Dough
Yeast dough can rise and cause gas to accumulate in your pet’s digestive
system. This can be painful and can cause the stomach to bloat, and
potentially twist, becoming a life-threatening emergency. The yeast
produces ethanol as a by-product and a dog ingesting raw bread dough
can become drunk
