IN THE early 1990s The Imperial Cancer Research Fund in the UK ran
an advertising campaign showing three girls sitting in a row.
One of them, the ad suggested, would grow up to be a teacher, one a lawyer, and
the third would develop cancer.
The advertisement caused a huge uproar at the time. Many people thought it was
unnecessarily alarmist.
But check the statistics and you soon realise that the charity was simply drawing
attention to the facts. One in three people will suffer from some form of cancer at
some point in their lives.

What are healthy homes?

Cancer rates have increased ten-fold since the 1950s. Four million new chemical
compounds were created in the 1960s and 70s alone. More than 3,000 of these
are found in our food and 884 are used in cosmetics and personal care products.
It’s true that they’re present only be in small quantities, but think of how often
you use toothpaste, mouthwash, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner,
deodorant, cleanser and moisturiser in a week . . . or a year.
Concern about the ever-increasing number of additives and chemicals in everyday
use was the origin of Neways, a pioneer in the field of safe personal care, essential
nutrition and health and wellness.
Today, the company’s products include high-quality supplements for everything
from heart health, eye health, digestive enzymes and essential fatty acids. There’s

The Background

ore than 25 years ago the founders of Neways discovered that
there were harmful and toxic ingredients in virtually all
mainstream personal care products—including some very
famous and heavily advertised brands! The bad news is that nothing
has changed.
The reason for them being there is usually nothing more than because they’re
cheap or that they extend the life of the product. The manufacturers don’t seem to
take into account the damage they might do to the person using them.
● Propylene glycol, for instance, is a substance included in many cleansers and
moisturizers. This is the same product that’s used in industrial anti-freeze and
commercial de-icers.

● Sodium lauryl sulphate, or sodium laureth
sulphate (SLS or SLES), are foaming agents which are
added to shampoos, shower gels and bubble baths.
SLS is also used in garage floor cleaners, commercial car
washes and engine de-greasers.
● Parabens: preservatives which are only included to prolong shelf life. The bad
news is that these are “endocrine disruptors”, associated with an increased risk of
hormonal cancers (breast, ovarian and prostate cancer).
● Formaldehyde is found in nail polishes and moisturizers as a
preservative.
It’s used in some countries for embalming. In 2011 the US
National Toxicology Program said formaldehyde was “known to
be a human carcinogen”.
Other additives include: aluminium, butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT),
diethanolamine (DEA), fluoride, lanolin, mineral oil, pthalates, talc,
tallow and triethanolamine (TEA).
These are just a few of the 3,000 potentially dangerous ingredients which Neways
will never use. Check your bathroom cabinet: you’ll likely find some or all of them
in products you use every day.
Instead, the Neways range of more than 200 products in personal care, cosmetics,

As well as items for personal care, Neways products tackle people’s
growing concerns about the steadily disappearing nutritional value of
food nowadays.
Intensive farming methods and the use of pesticides mean that the level of
essential minerals in the soil has gone down dramatically in recent years. On top

The company’s two best-sellers are Maximol and Revenol. Neways has sold
more than 30 million bottles of Maximol, the company’s colloidal
mineral supplement. This is a bio-available liquid which replaces the
missing minerals and amino acids in our diet.
Revenol is a world-beating, broad-spectrum anti-oxidant. As many as

How it Works
eways operates on personal recommendation. To buy products
you have to be a member, sponsored by someone who is already
a member.
There are two levels of membership, distributor and preferred customer.
If you’re a Distributor you can order products for yourself and sell them at retail
prices to others. Distributors pay a £15 a year subscription.
Preferred customers can buy products at distributor prices for their own use,
but can’t sponsor anyone else. There’s no charge for being a preferred customer
(see page 14).
There’s also an Advantage “autoship” programme (see page 14).
Distributors earn commissions on their own orders and those placed by anyone
you introduce--either directly or indirectly. Preferred customers don’t get
commission, but they can upgrade to become a distributor at any time.

example).
The level of commission paid depends on the number of people introduced by a
distributor and the turnover of their group in any month.

Preferred customers
Preferred customers buy products at distributor prices, but they can’t sponsor
anyone. They also don’t receive commission on their orders. They can upgrade to

The Rewards
Neways pay commission on both a distributor’s own orders and those of anyone
you introduce--directly or indirectly.
The level of commission goes up as the volume of orders placed by the group
increases.
The Weekly Pool
Members who are Executive level or above can qualify for a share of a Weekly
Pool.
To achieve this, you need to sponsor one new distributor and one preferred
customer or distributor who each put in a first order of 100 PV or more in any
week.
The Weekly Pool is £1,500. Depending on the number of people who qualify,
shares range from about £125 to £500.

The Future
eways was taken over by one of the USA’s major private equity
companies, Z Capital, in 2012. The new management has
completely re-invented the company (Ian and I met the new
CEO and European management in Edinburgh in March) and re-
branded it as Mōdere.
The product range will stay the same (although it will be re-packaged to look
stylish and contemporary). The new company combines the best aspects of
network marketing with “social retail”, using social media such as Facebook,
Twitter, LinkedIn etc.
A new app takes online ordering to a new level.
And the company follows up customers with “push messages”, encouraging
repeat orders and recommending complementary products.
It’s estimated that five per cent of people in the USA are involved in network
marketing and 95 per cent aren’t—and probably don’t want to be.

So, instead of pursuing the five per cent, focussing on “the opportunity”, Mōdere
is concentrating on the 95 per cent, to create a “social retail” company.
This is based on the success of companies like:
● Gilt.com, which has six million customers, built up over six years. Currently
they’re attracting around 100 new customers every hour.
● Fab.com, which has a customer base of four million after just two years.
● One Kings Lane, which is growing faster than either Amazon or Zappos after
four years.

Mōdere is already up and running in the USA, and the membership is growing
every month.
The new model will be fully introduced in Europe in autumn 2015. At that point
all Neways’ distributors will be transferred to the new company. The changeover
will start later this year.

The level of commission payments from Mōdere depends on the turnover of a
distributor’s group. Neways is recommending everyone to build up as strong a
group as possible to take advantage of the new payment structure.
How do I join?
AT THE moment Mōdere membership is available only to people based in the
USA. It will be introduced across Europe in 2015, and Neways distributors will
then automatically transfer with all the members of their group.
