Board Report LIGHTING FOR GREENS

This never-ending saga is now reaching an end. We have now decided to replace the lighting on Greens B & C at a cost of $22,000. We feel the lighting on our carpet greens is far worse than Green D. This replacement of the lights will not take place until the structural change between B&C Greens is carried out.

AREA BETWEEN GREENS B & C

The structural changes between Greens B&C was approved at a Special General Meeting held on Wednesday 4th March 2020. For members who did not attend the meeting we will be concreting the whole area and putting a new structure up that will have a gable roof covering the whole area. In the future we will be building a built-in BBQ and bar area and installing a water tank at the back between the structure and the gardens.

OH&S COMMITTEE

This Committee consists of Rob Warnock, Daniel Wells, Peter Bugeja and Rob Mitchell and they have carried out an audit of the Club and surrounds. There were quite a lot of things raised and we will work through them. This Committee will meet once a month in the future to ensure any problems with the Club are fixed as soon as possible.

ANNUAL COMMUNITY GRANTS

This programme is going ahead this year after it was deferred last year. For the last three weeks we have been advertising in the Benalla Ensign for applicants for the grants. We expect to have a presentation night at the end of March or early April.

INTERNAL RENOVATIONS TO CLUB

These renovations have ‘hit a brick wall’ as the quote is now over $1,400,000 compared to the $940,000 that we went to the members with. The Board is not comfortable with committing the Club to this amount of expenditure, so we are in the process of going through a complete re-vamp to reduce the cost to what we believe is an acceptable amount. After this is completed, we will be going back to the members with the new plan.

WALL ART PROJECT

As you would have noticed, rendering of the north brick wall has now been completed, and the painting will be carried out in the next 6-8 weeks. The painting is similar to the one shown to the members at the AGM and the meeting on 4th March 2020.

WAYNE NEYLON

Chairman of Directors

Outdoor Bowls Section On Sunday 23rd February 2020 the BBC OBS committee held a Fundraiser for Ivan Lister, the Rural Outreach Worker, funded by Benalla Rural City. Thirty-nine bowlers attended this event and enjoyed a BBQ in slightly humid conditions before taking to the greens. Ivan Lister and his wife Jenny joined us, and Ivan gave a talk beforehand to explain how he became involved with the Outreach program and what he does. He finished with a few jokes which were thoroughly enjoyed by all. Ivan and Jenny agreed to join in the bowls before having to leave. We thanked them for attending.

The Club very kindly provided some prizes for the bowlers as a memento of the event. Winners were R Bezett, M Tilbury & R Sheppard with 2 wins and 22 shots up, the runners up were G Lessing, I Lister & B Armstrong. Best last game winners were W Neylon & P Taylor. A big thank you to Tim for cooking the BBQ, Lorna for helping with the food and several others for setting up etc. The presentation to Ivan took place on Tuesday 25th February 2020 with President Ian and I happily handing over a cheque for $810. Ivan expressed his thanks and said it would go a long way to help continue his work.

Corporate Bowls is running well with 31 people regularly attending. Several members are assisting with a BBQ before play, then showing the attendees what to do. Many thanks to our volunteers.
