Saul blamed the people when Samuel called his hand.

"to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God;"

24 And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the Commandment of the Lord, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

Saul admitted his sin, but he didn't accept responsibility for his actions;

He blamed it on the people.

Have you ever made excuses for wrongdoing?

I'm sorry I spoke hatefully to you, but you made me so mad I couldn't help it.

If we would be forgiven and cleansed from our sins, we have to confess our sin as sin, and as

our own sin.

Admitting that we chose to commit the sin.

Then with an humble heart and contrite spirit -- ask God to forgive us in Jesus' Name.

The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Psalms 34:17-18

When we sincerely cry out unto God in Jesus' Name, He hears our cry and delivers us.

But God can't be fooled.

But you can't fool God.

Acts 15 NIV 8 God, who knows the heart, showed that He accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as He did to us.

1 Samuel 16:7 (TLB) … Men judge by outward appearance, but I (God) look at a man’s thoughts and intentions."

Not sincere repentanceSaul is just sorry that he got caught;

He is not sorrowful for his sin.

26 And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the Word of the Lord, and the Lord hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

Saul was more concerned with Samuel's opinion, than with God Almighty.

True repentance doesn't come with excuses.

True repentance is humble and sincere.

27-28 And as Samuel turned about to go away, (Saul) laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent. And Samuel said unto (Saul), The Lord hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbor of thine, that is better than thou.

29 And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for He is not a man, that He should repent.

Nothing that Saul said at this point would change the mind of the Lord.

Saul is no longer king, even though he holds the title for 15 more years BKC.

30 Then (Saul) said, I have sinned: yet honor me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the Lord thy God. 31 So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the Lord.

To confess one's sin after being caught is seldom true repentance.Saul seems to be interested only in the outward

appearance before the people.

32 Then said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.

1 Samuel 15:32 (TLB) Then Samuel said, "Bring King Agag to me." Agag arrived all full of smiles, for he thought, "Surely the worst is over and I have been spared!"

33 And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal.

34 Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul. 35 And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the Lord repented that He had made Saul king over Israel.

But God had already rejected him as king of Israel.

We always weep for those who turn their back on God and

suffer hard consequences.

Saul rejected the Word of the Lord, refusing to kill King Agag and the best of the livestock.

Samuel rebuked Saul, but Saul did not truly repent;

He made excuses, and passed the buck.

We have seen in this study of Saul's life and reign that he started well,

With an humble heart and submissive spirit.

Ecclesiastes 7 8 Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.

Don't get mad and quit.

Don't get discouraged

Don't get distracted.
