Commodore’s Comments The wait is over, the boats are

in the water, the temperatures

are improving and our days

are getting shorter! Wait

what? That’s right; by the time

you read this, the longest day

of the year will have come and

gone. Don’t worry though it is

not all downhill from here, we

still have some amazing days

ahead of us to get out on the

water and enjoy the camarade-

July is one of the months

that I personally look forward

to all year long! The fun all

gets started with the Venetian

Night Parade followed by the

Independence Day festivities.

Our club is such a great place to spend this special holiday. We are

very blessed to have this facility that is in such close proximity to the

many fun events that go on during these two days, as well as the best

seats in the house for the fireworks finale! Please invite your friends

and family down and enjoy all that our club has to offer!

Another highlight in July for many sailors, myself included, is the

Chicago Yacht Club’s race to Mackinac Island. This 333 nautical mile

race will be run for the 110th time this year. The Sheboygan Yacht

Club has been well represented in this race for a great many of those

years. Some members can even remember doing the race before the

mighty Mackinac Bridge was built! Leslie Kohler will carry on the

tradition this year. Leslie and her SYC crew members will be racing

in Cruising Div.1 with her new Tartan 4000 named “NorthStar.”

Good luck Leslie and to all of our members who are fortunate enough

to sail on various other boats in this very prestigious race!

The Nominating Committee has been formed and will be meeting

shortly to put together the slate of Officers and Board Members for

the upcoming September Election. Our club is really run by our many

strong committees. Those committees depend on strong leadership to

help them do their work effectively and efficiently. If you would be

interested in taking part in your club’s leadership, please contact a

member of this year’s Nominating Committee.

Enjoy the Summer!
