No Joking MatterWith the approach of the hurricane sea*

son, common sense warnings should be is-sued to all the new residents of the areawho have no idea of the devastation a-hurricane can cause and regard them as an"amusing" topicTof conversation.

Because Florida has escaped hurricanedamage for the past six years, people growcareless, forgetting the force and intensi-ties of such storms. Proper preparation anda few good rules observed will do much toavert danger. Glass must be protected; allmovable objects taken inside; water jugsfilled with pure drinking water; an amplesupply of cooked food kept available (your

electricity usually goes off for a time). Most important, once a storm begins, stayindoors.

As the "eye" of the hurricane passes, don't be fooled by the lull, because you'llget hit again very shortly with the re-mainder of the vicious circle,

If you don't fed safe at home, beforethe storm starts, gather up your family, pillows, special diets and baby formulasand head for the nearest Red CrossShelter. ;This holds true especially if youlive in beach or low areas where high orflood waters might cut off from shelter ifneeded, (More about this later.)

Graduation time draws near and many wonder what wonder-ful plans and hopeful dreams fill the thoughts of the studentsHow many will go on to gain fame, fortune and acclaim?Which will repeat the great financial feats accomplished byso many of the past generation. Looking at their clear youngfaces, listening to their firm voices, who can tell which oneswill be "stas-touched"? Ambition, perserverance, training, hard work with a touch of luck will tell the story later. ;Rightnow, the future is a bright new adult world to explore, newexperiences to share and look forward to. Best wishes to allgraduates.

Last week, Quin-ton Minor kept his listeners enthralled with his philosophyof living when he described how to live a happier, healthierlife Deeply dramatic and superbly presented, Quinton toldhow he learned from an illness that he must first get rid ofthe Worry Bug and did so by living in a "Daylight Compart-ment"; provide for tomorrow by living happier, easier, andright now, cast worry out of living, follow the precepts ofthe Master in your heart and He will do the worryin g foryou.

"Fill your mind with positive thoughts of Hope, Courageand Faith and you 'can't miss', he said, 'so let's live lifetoday."

Fellow Rotarians said they received much inspiration andencouragement from Minor's informal talk.,

Kett Technical CenterNames Schakel, President

A 35-year-old executiveheads the new Kett Techni-cal Center just south ofDeerfield Beach. Hidinghis versatility behind aquiet manner, it is onlythrough prolonged conver-sation that the facts beginto emerge forming a pictureof a cultured, brilliantyoung man, well on the wayup the ladder-of success.

During his college days,. he flew his own plane and

was also a member of theGlider Club. An avid fishingand hunting enthusiast,he spent quite a bit of hisleisure time at these sports.

Graduating from Purduewith an Aeronautical Engi-neering degree in 1942,which if our arithmetic iscorrect, would make himbarelv 20, Karl Schakel de-signed, built a n d produceda new helicopter. When warintervened, he enlisted inthe U.S. Navy ending histour of duty by serving onthe Advisory Committee onAeronautics in Washington,D.C.

In February, 1952, Schakelinvested $2,000 forming hisown company, Kett Corpora-tion of Cincinnati, Ohio, he

His quiet voice takes onsparkle when he talks abouthis family. One daughter, 8;a son, 9; and the baby, undera year, will accompany Dorisand Karl when they move totheir new Florida home.Karl can design it if he hastime. One of the most un-usual homes of contemporarydesign in Cincinnati is theSchakel residence, designedand built by Karl.

"I don't think I'll havetime for that now," he smil-ed. "I'll be too occupiedwith the new Kett TechnicalCenter here. We have greatplans for this subsidiary ofU.S. Industries."

The company will operateout of their headquarters inBoca Raton until the newbuildings are completedsometime in the fall. Schakelsays he hopes to have 200employees, most of whom willeither buy or build theirhomes throughout the Pom-pano-Deerfield and Boca Ra-ton area,

"Scientists, engineers, mathematicians and techni-cians will find most inte-resting work in our diversi-fied projects," he stated.

If Karl, at 35, is an exam-ple of the type of executivesthe Center will have, itshould draw many young menfrom all over the country. Heplans to employ as manylocal people as possible whoare qualified.

The Bryant Pup

Name "Pup" ContestIs Announced

Boca Raton Gas Company, distributors of heating andcooling equipment for BryantManufacturing Company inthis area are participatingin a national contest to"Name the Bryant Pup".The pup, a Boston terrier, was for many years a trade-mark of the old Bryant Heat-er Company. In recentyears, the pup had strayedfrom company advertising.

But the pup and the slo-gan "Let the Pup Re YourFurnace Man" refused tcroll over and play dead.Whole generations of young-sters snuggled fluffy Bryantpups in their cribs. Thous-ands of home owners still

had metal Bryant pups curl-

ed contentedly by their fur-naces, because many deal-ers gave the pups away asgood will advertising. ; So,company officials decidedto return the pup to his oldposition.

Since this i s Bryant'sGolden Anniversary year, the person who names theBryant pup will win a goldenCadillac Coupe de Ville. There will be $60,000 inprizes altogether, with over150 golden furnaces and wa-ter heaters given away inaddition to the grand prize.

The contest begins June 1and entry blanks may be ob-tained from participatingBryant dealers.
