Comply with Fort Drum, New York state regulations on weapons

Fort Drum officials remind residents to ensure they are in accordance with Fort Drum regulations and New York

state laws when it comes to registering weapons.

It is a misdemeanor for any person to carry or possess a handgun in the state of New York unless he or she has

a valid New York pistol permit.

If you are prosecuted for possessing a pistol in New York without a state pistol permit, you could be subject to a

maximum of either 6-25 years imprisonment, $30,000 in fines, or a combination of both.

If you own a handgun and do not have a New York state pistol permit, you should immediately bring it to the

Military Police Station to register the weapon and have it stored in the Fort Drum Directorate of Emergency Ser-

vices arms room until arrangements can be made to store them in your unit arms room.

If you live on post, all weapons in your residence must be registered with DES, in accordance with Fort Drum

Regulation 190-6. Weapons include BB guns, paintball guns, bows, airsoft guns and all firearms. All privately

owned weapons crossing onto post must be registered at the Fort Drum DES.

tary Police Operations, 10715 Mt. Belvedere Blvd, Fort Drum, at 772-2992.
