STEELRISE 2009STEELRISE 2009BHUBANESWAR 2-3 FEBRUARY 2009 AN EVENT FOR THE IRON AND STEEL INDUSTRY OF INDIA
The success of STEELRISE 2008 paves the way to STEELRISE 2009, to be held in Bhubaneswar, the capital of Orissa, the emerging epicenter of India's iron and steel industry.
The Government of India's dramatic decision to further raise the country's steel capacity target from 180 MTPA to 300 MTPA by 2020 now demands that the myriad tasks that must be completed on an accelerated time table.
STEELRISE 2009 is the forum designed to enable all stakeholders in Indian industry to address their varied needs and find fruitful resolutions to them.

Whatever your industry or line of business, steel directly or indirectly enables it. Development on the scale projected by India's national planners underlines the cascading impact of steel on all sectors of the economy, as a multiplier touching not only the national infrastructure, industry and employment, but the quality of life, consumption habits and capacities of mankind in all walks of life. STEELRISE 2009 will provide a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities opened up by steel capacity expansion for all sectors:metallurgy to chemicals, machine building to consumer durables, power to housing and urban infrastructure, transport and communications to healthcare and education. With the success of STEELRISE 2008, the event has now been credibly established as uniquely useful. Participation at STEELRISE 2009 is, therefore, expected on a much larger scale, representing all aspects of steelmaking and its related activites.
A series of sessions taking up, for presentation and discussion, the critical issues arising from the projected expansion of India's steel capacity within the rapidly changing market scenario, at once global and local.
A panel of eminent speakers is being invited. The conference will examine the following aspects of steelmaking:
BUILDING ON THE GAINS OF STEELRISE 2008 STEELRISE 2008 marked a coming together of major stakeholders in Indian steel to share their perceptions on practical issues and concerns arising from India's targeted expansion of steelmaking capacity. It was the first such Conference, designed to build a consensus of views based on a holistic understanding of economic, technological and developmental issues. Judging by the feedback from the participants, it was found to be relevant, useful and well-worth periodic updating. Hence STEELRISE 2009 designed to address Indian steel's challenges a year later, against a rapidly changing backdrop of global and national developments.
UPSCALED TARGETS, COMPLEX ISSUES With the Government of India announcing a production target of 300 Mtpa for Indian steel, all inter-related targets have gained practical significance for the industry. The focus of STEELRISE 2009 will be on what policy makers, government and industry must do to revise plans and operationalise policies in the context of new, dramatically upscaled. national targets. For the practical goals of smooth implementation to be achieved, it would be mandatory to address and resolve many more and complex issues relating to investment, infrastructure, technologies, and human resources.
THE IMPORTANCE OF BHUBANESWAR STEELRISE 2008 was held at Jamshedpur, India's original steel city. STEELRISE 2009 will be held in Bhubaneswar, the capital of the state of Orissa, India's richest source of most mineral deposits needed in producing steel and ferro-alloys; and therefore, of vital importance to the four eastern states that will form the hub of India's steel as well as upstream and downstream industries.
