About the composer - Chernov Gennadi Vladimirovich - the Russian composer and teacher, professor of composition and instrumentation at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music.Chernov was born on April, 26, 1937 in Tashkent. In 1968, the State musical - pedagogical institute Gnesin ended. Now it is called, the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music for composition and instrumentation of O.K.Eiges. Since 1968 to the present time, Chernov works on the faculty of composition and instrumentation at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music, where in the beginning he conducted classes of special analysis, polyphonies, readings of scores and instrumentations, and then he began a composition and instrumentation class for the leading conducting professors. On June 11, 2003 the President decreed the honorary title of "the Honored worker of arts of the Russian Federation" to Mr. Chernov.Among his pupils - composers, musicologists, editors, teachers, musical theoretical disciplines, executors, lecturers of philharmonia societies (over 300 in all). The Creativity of composer G.V.Chernov is widely known in Russia and many countries of the world. His music has been repeatedly performed at the international festivals "Moscow Autumn” and “the Leningrad Spring,” at the 1st-International Band Music Festival in France (Le Havre, 1990) and at the International Festival in Spain (Valencia, 2011), in the USA, Germany, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Iraq, Poland, Holland, Yugoslavia, Portugal, Finland, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan. G.V.Chernov's music to the present exemplifies great skill, brightness and contrast supported by Russian classical and national traditions, harmony of forms and dynamism of development, epic scope, masterly possession of orchestral means, and aspiration to колористическим to searches in particular. About the music – Program Notes for Elegiac Poem for String Orchestra –
“Elegiac Poem” for String Orchestra was written in 2007 by the well-known Russian composer Gennady Chernov. The inspiration for its creation was a bright, unforgettable impression from listening to a concert of the famous, ingenious “Adagio for strings” (opus 11) by the classic American composer Samuel Barber. The sound of this orchestra piece, with its amazing expressiveness and flexibility of extraordinary depth and expression, affected the soul of the listener to the effect that the composer wanted to recreate this impression in “Elegiac Poem” for string instruments.
The premiere of this piece by Gennady Chernov was in November 2007 at the concert in honor of the 70th birthday of the composer in the Concert Hall of the Gnessin’s Russian Academy of Music. Under the baton of conductor Nikolai Sokolov, “Elegiac Poem” was performed by the String Orchestra of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Music for band orchestra- The first symphony "Russia Great," " Russian suite," Oriental Poem and Dance (an author's variant for band orchestra), the Scherzo for a bassoon and orchestra, Oriental Fantasia " Memory of N.A.Rimsky-Korsakov's " for a clarinet and Band
orchestra, the play "Chastooshka," the Suite №2 “Classical,” Symphony №5-bis and Symphony №6-bis “On Russian Themes.”3. Music for an orchestra of Russian national instruments- The second symphony, the Fourth symphony "Lyrical," " Russian suite ," the Concerto for orchestra of bayan players and shock, Polyphonic symphonietta for orchestra of bayan players and shock, the Scherzo - toccata for orchestra of bayan players and shock. 4. Camer-tool, vocal, choral music- Sonata for piano, the Sonata for clarinet and piano, the String quartet, Two concertos for string trio," a Poetic picture " for piano, Concertos for piano, the Poem on a theme of Paul Dvoyrin, Scherzo for bassoon and piano, Plays for a bayan, Romances, Choruses a cappella, etc. Many recorded works by composer Chernov G.V. are published in Russia and the USA, recorded on phonograph records, broadcast by radio and TV. On them are available numerous responses in periodicals.In 2012, upon the 75th birthday of composer Gennadi Chernov, he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Moscow Union of composers.
