Welcome Message from CGS President Karim F. DamjiMy colleagues on the CGS executive and I are excited to see the launch of our first ‘Canadian Glaucoma Meeting (CGM)’ and wish to acknowledge the hard work and effort of our dedicated planning team (Ike Ahmed, Paul Harasymowycz, Jennifer Rahman, Jamie Taylor), our CGS admin assistant Samreen Amin, and Kelly Watters and her colleagues at AMR Events Inc.

This meeting has benefited greatly from your input that has helped shape our agenda. You can also see we selected a terrific Canadian venue for the meeting!

I am thrilled to see the registration numbers for the meeting and hope this grows each year!

Welcome to the inaugural Canadian Glaucoma Meeting.

As a Canadian Glaucoma Society member, this is your meeting!

We hope to provide a unique meeting emphasizing professional and social interaction with colleagues across the country. In a more focused way than other national meetings, we are aiming the content at clinically relevant topics for the glaucoma sub-specialist.

We hope the format and size of the CGM will launch discussions and insights that we can apply when we return to our practices. We also hope you and any family members attending will have fond social memories from Niagara-on-the-Lake to take back with you.

Featured Guest Speaker

Kuldev Singh is Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the Glaucoma Service at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He received his BSc from McGill University and MD and MPH degrees from the Johns Hopkins University after which he was a Dana Foundation Fellow at the Wilmer Eye Institute. Following residency training at the Casey Eye Institute, he undertook a Heed Foundation Fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Dr. Singh has published over 275 papers, book chapters, monographs and abstracts; delivered over 350 invited lectures, edited two textbooks and served on the editorial boards of ten ophthalmic publications

Dr. Singh has served as President of the American Glaucoma Society, Executive Vice President of the World Glaucoma Association, Board Chair of the Glaucoma Research Foundation and Chair of the Ophthalmic Technology Assessment Glaucoma Panel of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is currently a member of the FDA Advisory Committee on Ophthalmic Devices, a consultant for the National Space Biomedical Research Institute and serves on the Senior Advisory Committee of the International Society of Glaucoma Surgery.

Hundreds of years ago, the land on which the pedestrian walkway at the brink of the falls and Table Rock now stands, formed part of the Falls and was covered with fast flowing water.

The original Table Rock was one of the oldest structures taken over by the Commission with the Parks’ lands in 1886. It was erected in 1853 by Saul Davis at a time when private owners controlled the land surrounding the Falls. It occupied a site just north of the existing Table Rock, opposite the historic land form of Table Rock, a limestone ledge which was overhanging near the brink of the Falls and that fell into the Niagara Gorge in 1850.
