Sixteenth Sunday after Trinity
1030 September 16 AD 2018
Christ Raising the Dead - Louisa Anne, Marchioness of Waterford 1818-1891
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father…
that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the
saints what is the breadth and length and height
and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses
knowledge,
that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Ephesians 3:14-16
The Sixteenth Sunday after Trinity
Opening hymn: 4 Lord as the day begins
Our worship continues on page 1 of the liturgy booklets.
The Collect: O LORD, we beseech you, let your continual pity cleanse and defend your Church; and, because it cannot continue in safety without your succour, preserve it evermore by your help and goodness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Psalm 102: 12-17
12 But thou O Lord shalt en’dure for’ever : and thy remembrance ’ throughout ’ all gene’rations.13 Thou shalt arise and have ’ mercy upon ’ Sion : for it is time that thou have mercy upon her ’ yea the ’ time is’ come.14 And why? thy servants think up’on her ’ stones : and it pitieth them to ’ see her ’ in the ’ dust.15 The heathen shall fear thy ’ Name O ’ Lord : and all the ’ kings of the ’ earth thy ’ Majesty;16 When the Lord shall ’ build up ’ Sion : and when his ’ glory ’ shall ap’pear;17 When he turneth him unto the prayer of the ’ poor ’ destitute : and des’piseth not ’ their de’sire.
Glory be to the Father ’ and to • the ’ Son : and ’ to the ’ Holy ’ Ghost; As it was in the beginning is ’ now and • ever ’ shall be : world without ’ end. A ’ — ’ men.

New Testament Reading: Ephesians 3:13-21So I ask you not to lose heart over what I am suffering for you, which is your glory. For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever. Amen. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.
Gradual Hymn: 175 (vs 1,2) Come down, O Love divine
Gospel Acclamation:Alleluia (x4) We do not live by ’ bread a- ’ lone, but by every word that comes ’ from
the • mouth of ’ God. Alleluia (x4)

The Gospel: St Luke 7:11-17Before the Gospel we sing: Glory to you, O Lord
Soon afterwards he went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” Then he came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and “God has visited his people!” And this report about him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country. After the Gospel we sing: Praise to you, O Christ
