1W2- Neolithic – New Stone Age (8,000 B.C.)
Beginning of societies, Stonehenge, Pottery and basketry are developed, beginning of agriculture and the domestication of animals
1W3- Egyptian – (3,000 B.C. – 800 B.C.)
Strong belief in the afterlife, art is built for permanence and is usually massive, pyramids, pharaohs (Three major periods – Old kingdom, Middle Kingdom, and New Kingdom)
1W4- Archaic Greek – late 7th to late 5th century B.C.

Second Eight Weeks-The Middle Ages
2W1- Early Christian and Byzantine (300 A.D. – 1000 A.D.)

2W2- Romanesque (1000 – 1150 A.D.)

The word renaissance means “Rebirth”
There was a rebirth of interest in the classics

Third Eight Weeks-The Modern World
3W1- Neoclassissism and Romanticism (1780-1850) Neoclassissical is any style which resembles the ancient classical Greek or Roman manner of painting or sculpture. Romanticism emphasized rejection against society and rebellion. It dealt with the themes of power, violence, and the study of emotion.
3W2-Impressionism (1850-1880)
Dealt with the effect of light on colorPainted outdoors rapidly with large brushesThis art movement received its name from Claude Monet’s painting “Impression Sunrise”
