September 27, 2015 Dear Families, It has been a cool start to autumn. The weekend was refreshing. I hope that you enjoyed the time with your families. It will be our FIRST FULL week of school this week. I am especially looking forward to meeting all of you on Tuesday, September 29 th at our Back to School Night. Remember that the PTO will be in the main lobby beginning at 6:30 p.m. They will have some valuable information for you. Ms. Sury - Scott will begin her meeting in the cafeteria at 7:00 p.m. Thank you to ALL the families that ordered from our first Reading Club order. I have noted all of your orders and will keep track and let you know when your child gets to chose their first free book. In math we will continue add and subtract to solve word problems within 10 using various strategies. This week we will continue to work on drawing pictures to help solve for addition problems. We will begin to use this strategy to solve subtraction problems later this week. As part of our daily lessons we will continue to build up our fluency with addition to quickly find answers to problems. We will use both equations (number sentences) and number bonds to do this. Students will have their first quiz on addition strategies we have learned on Wednesday. In reading the students will continue to learn new ways to reread a text so that they become stronger readers. We will focus on reading with partners this week. This work will help the students to talk about what they have read with others, allowing them to ask and answer questions about what they read. Please remember your child should be reading or read to each night. You can begin to ask them questions about what they have read.

September 27, 2015Dear Families,

It has been a cool start to autumn. The weekend was refreshing. I hope that you enjoyed the time with your families. It will be our FIRST FULL week of school this week. I am especially looking forward to meeting all of you on Tuesday, September 29th at our Back to School Night.

In Writing the students will begin to “unfreeze” the characters in their stories. The will add actions, dialogue, feelings and thoughts to their characters within their pieces. Please encourage your child to talk about their days and what has happened to them. Ask them about the events and activities that are their favorites, or their least favorites. Ask them questions of why they chose them. The more questions you ask the more details your child can add to their pieces.

Have an awesome week!Mrs. Sikorski
