Homework Reminder: March 20th

For Monday’s class, you should bring a very rough draft of Paper #1.

You need close readings of three passages, with each passages focusing on the same theme from The Maltese Falcon. Each close reading should be about a paragraph. Close readings should get at the deeper, hidden meaning of the passage, revealing insights and interpretations beyond the surface level that a first-time reader would not immediately see.

At the start of the paper, you need a thesis statement that ties together all the close readings and makes an insightful statement/interpretation about the passages overall and the theme they focus on in the novel.

Read the prompt carefully, as it will help you to write your thesis statement.
