Everyone must do task 1 and 6, then you must choose 2 activities from tasks 2-5.You must spend 8 hours on this project. You can spend more time if you want to.Task One - EquationsWrite the word equation for photosynthesis below (2 marks):

Write the balanced symbol equation (3 marks):

Task Two – Written TaskFor each of the boxes in the diagram below, explain where each word comes from, where it is found or what it is used for in the plant.

Use this information to write a description of how plants carry out photosynthesis. It should be at least 1 side of A4.Mark out of 5

Success Criteria

1 State where the plant gets carbon dioxide and water from.2 Describe how the plant uses oxygen and glucose.3 Explain how and why glucose is stored in the plant. 4 Explain why plants need light and chlorophyll for

photosynthesis.5 Suggest what might happen to a plant if it could not get or use

each of these.

Task ThreeWe get many different products from plants. Make a presentation about these products.Make a list of products we get from plants. Try to make the list contain different types of product (e.g. blueberries, sugar and paper). What are the similarities and differences between all of these products? What has to be done to some products to make them useable for us?

Success Criteria

1 List products we get from plants.2 State which we can use as they are and which need

processing.3 Describe the differences and similarities between the products

in your list.4 Choose one material to explain how it must be processed

before we are able to use it.5 Evaluate the usefulness of raw materials versus processed

materials.

Task Foura) Draw diagrams to show what of gasses a plant takes in and out, and

how much during different times of the day. The size of the arrows should represent how much of each gas is present.

HINT: Remember photosynthesis isn’t the only process to affect the amount of carbon dioxide and oxygen. One picture has already been done for you.

b) Research the limiting factors for photosynthesis.

Success Criteria

1 Draw arrows on the pictures correctly.2 State factors which can affect the rate of photosynthesis.3 Describe how the rate of photosynthesis changes at night

compared to during the day.4 Explain what is meant by the term ‘limiting factor’.5 Suggest ways in which the rate of reaction can be increased.

Task FiveResearch two plants which have developed special ways to get water or carbon dioxide in different habitats.Make a poster to display these two plants.Examples include:

- Tundra Plants- Plants that grow in water

- CactiMark out of 5

Success Criteria

1 Name plants which have adapted to harsh conditions.2 Describe the way one plant has adapted to its habitat.3 Describe the way several plants have adapted to their habitats.45

Task SixYou need to make a presentation to show the rest of your class what you have been working on.It can be on PowerPoint, but doesn’t have to be.If you have made a poster and written an essay, you can show/talk about those.Whether you use PowerPoint or not, you need to practice your presentation, so you know exactly what you are going to say.It should last between 2 and 3 minutes.

Mark out of 5

Success Criteria

0 No presentation.1 A very short presentation with a short description of the tasks.2 A short presentation with a description of the tasks and 1 fact.3 A short presentation with a description of each task carried out

and 2 facts.4 A presentation that lasts 2 minutes with a description of each

task carried out and a few facts that have been learnt.5 A presentation that lasts between 2 and 3 minutes with a

detailed description and facts learnt from each task carried out.
